After their morning run, Sang Feiyu and Ning Zhiyuan took a hot shower before getting up.
"There are steamed buns, millet porridge, and eggs warming in the kitchen. Remember to eat them."
After giving her instructions, Zhao Hui went into her guest room.
Ning Zhiyuan knew they went out for a morning run, so everyone assumed that his grandparents had gone back to the guest room to catch up on sleep.
In reality, the maternal grandparents wanted to give the newlyweds some private space and to minimize their presence in front of them.
As soon as they entered the guest room, they slipped into the virtual space, which felt almost like being at home.
Inside the space, they were free and at ease, without any worry about being discovered.
No one would secretly monitor them.
Sang Youde poured Zhao Hui a cup of Pu'er tea. Zhao Hui took a bite of the butterfly pastry, and life felt pleasant and comfortable.
After finishing breakfast, Ning Zhiyuan and Sang Feiyu called their in-laws' home.
"Mom, Happy New Year."
"Hey, Xiaoyu, Happy New Year."
"I was just about to call you guys." Gu Nanzhi's cheerful voice reached Sang Feiyu's ears through the phone.
Sang Feiyu smiled and said, "It just shows that we, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, have a good understanding."
"Mom, how's everything at home lately?"
"Everything is fine."
"And you?" Gu Nanzhi asked.
“We are doing well. My grandparents came over before the Lunar New Year, and now we have someone to take care of our three meals a day, so you don’t need to worry about us.”
"Oh, thank you for your trouble. If you need anything, please let me know and I'll get it for you."
Gu Nanzhi thought to herself that if she couldn't contribute her labor, she could at least contribute money, right?
"Okay, thank you, Mom."
"Hey, kid, why are you thanking me when we're family?"
Ning Zhiyuan listened quietly from the side, and only after Sang Feiyu finished speaking did he take the microphone and say a few words to Gu Nanzhi.
He used to talk very little when he called home. If his family didn't have anything to say, their calls would only last ten seconds or so.
Gu Nanzhi was probably already familiar with her second son's personality, so she didn't make things difficult for him and hung up the phone.
Ning Zhiyuan breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
Sang Feiyu was dumbfounded. "You're under so much pressure just from calling your family?"
"No, I just don't know what to say to my family," Ning Zhiyuan confessed.
Sang Feiyu thought for a moment and replied, "You can talk about your daily life, your work, and the situation of other family members."
For example, how are your brother and sister doing?
How are your parents' health?
"Anyway, you can chat for a while by following the formula, so you won't run out of things to talk about."
Ning Zhiyuan suddenly realized, "I'll try it next time."
"Uh-huh."
On their way home, Ning Zhiyuan was suddenly summoned by his bodyguard, which meant he had another mission.
Although Sang Feiyu was worried, she had also gotten used to it and could only obediently go home.
Zhao Hui and Sang Youde looked surprised when they saw Sang Feiyu enter the space. "Xiaoyu, why aren't you outside with Zhiyuan?"
"He was called away by his guards; he must have a new assignment."
"Well, there's nothing we can do about it. Soldiers don't have spring break; if something happens, we have to deal with it immediately." Sang Youde was the most qualified to speak on this matter.
If he had married someone outside the industry, his wife probably wouldn't have understood the nature of their work.
Fortunately, he chose someone from within the industry.
