Chapter 119 Another busy year of preparations before winter.

The falcon-shaped structure is useful, but it's also troublesome. Lin Ying doesn't have much time, so she wants to keep it simple.

Even children know right from wrong. When Lin Ying finished preparing dinner, she went over to help Er Ya down to use the toilet. Unexpectedly, the little one clung tightly to Lin Ying's neck and wouldn't let go. Clearly, she didn't like being hung there.

Lin Ying found it incredibly funny.

Fortunately, all of Shuanzi's friends had been summoned away by then, so Lin Ying simply put Er Ya on the ground and asked Shuanzi to keep an eye on her.

Lin Ying isn't worried about her child getting their clothes dirty, as long as they have fun.

Lin Ying cooked chicken for dinner and sent a small bowl to the neighbor next door. She had promised Xiao Shuai that she would give him meat, and she couldn't go back on her word.

After dinner, Lin Ying asked Shuanzi to take care of Er Ya at home while she cleaned up the kitchen and went back to boil water.

A pool of hot water is enough for both children to bathe in, and Er Ya can wash herself in a large wooden tub. They have one at home; she uses it for washing clothes.

Shuanzi went into the bathtub, and Er Ya was in the wooden tub. Children naturally love playing in the water. Er Ya, in particular, was especially happy as soon as she got into the water.

Lin Ying has been too busy these past few days to make pajamas for her child, so she has to use their old clothes.

Shuanzi was really obedient. When Lin Ying asked him to take care of his younger sister, he would play with her. Because of Shuanzi, Lin Ying was able to relax and wash the dirty clothes at home after taking a shower.

After finishing my work, it was almost time for bed, so I made formula for both kids as usual.

Shuanzi was too small, and Lin Ying always felt it was too pitiful for the child to sleep alone in the back. In addition, Zhao Qinghuai was not around, so both children slept with Lin Ying at night.

After the two children fell asleep, Lin Ying took some time to make two mattresses for Er Ya out of leather. In case she slept soundly and the children wet the bed, the leather was more breathable and less prone to leakage.

In the past, Lin Ying would never have dared to imagine herself sleeping soundly, but she found that when she held Er Ya, her sleep quality was incredibly good. She felt much more energetic every day.

The next morning, Lin Ying made fish soup. Apart from this fish, the rest of the fish had been salted by Lin Ying the night before and was now hanging outside to dry.

The next day, they still had to go up the mountain. With Er Ya around, Lin Ying could get whatever she wanted. Because they didn't need anything complicated, Lin Ying could even make four trips up and down the mountain in a day. She even had time to process the ingredients when she got back.

To speed things up, Lin Ying always brought Er Ya with her.

It was time to go to town again, and Lin Ying packed her things early. Shuanzi would still be in Xiao Shuai's care. Li Yue'e would also be going to town today, and Xiao Qiang and several other older children would be home. Lin Ying entrusted Shuanzi to them with peace of mind.

She took Er Ya to town.

Minister Zhang had mentioned before that the troops would be distributing cabbages, potatoes, and sweet potatoes soon. Lin Ying didn't need to buy those. Besides buying baby formula, she came to town today to buy winter clothes, hats, and gloves for her child.

Also, I need to get some fine cotton cloth, since the baby's skin is delicate. I'll make pajamas for them, along with the clothes they wear underneath.

Having kids at home makes everything go through much faster, especially toilet paper, which really goes by in no time. Fortunately, Lin Ying now earns a salary, and with Zhao Qinghuai's salary, they still make a considerable amount a month.

Both parents have milk powder coupons, and since both children eat solid food, they drink milk powder less often. The monthly milk powder allowance is sufficient for both children.

Er Ya doesn't need to buy cotton shoes yet, but Shuanzi does. Lin Ying doesn't know how to make cloth shoes or sew soles. It's just a pity there aren't any cotton shoes for children here. The salesperson said that children grow quickly, and a pair of shoes bought today will be too small to wear tomorrow, and cotton shoes that have been worn before won't be warm enough the following year. Buying new ones isn't cost-effective. Usually, people make them at home.

Having no other choice, Lin Ying bought shoe soles and planned to learn how to make cotton shoes for Shuanzi every night. Then she bought some nails, needles and thread, and other small items that she could buy at the army supply and marketing cooperative.

After buying things at the supply and marketing cooperative, Lin Ying went to the commune.

Everyone is storing up things for the winter; there are quite a few people in the commune these days.

Uncle Wu saw Lin Ying from afar, but he didn't dare to recognize her because she had a child on her back. It wasn't until Lin Ying came over and called out to him that Uncle Wu realized it was indeed Lin Ying.

“It’s been so long since we last saw each other, hasn’t it? I was thinking you would come to the market to check on things here. I didn’t expect you to only come now.”

After saying that, Uncle Wu pointed behind Lin Ying and asked, "What's going on here?"
