Chapter 121 Target

Li Yue'e actually knew what had happened inside; Xiao Shuai had called her over, saying that his aunt had been bullied.

Lin Ying was the only one whom Xiao Shuai's relatives addressed as "Auntie" without using her full name.

Li Yue'e came over without thinking. She had overheard the conversation outside, and unlike Lin Ying, she didn't talk much with the others. They all knew that this Commander Xing's family member was a loose cannon and couldn't keep a secret at all.

Moreover, they gossip everywhere.

At first, everyone chatted with her, but later they all avoided her like the plague. This person didn't think there was anything wrong with her; she had been chatting enthusiastically with the newly arrived military dependents lately, and no one expected her to come to Lin Ying's place today.

Her sister was bullied, so she definitely had to get justice.

Therefore, Li Yue'e walked in without hesitation.

When she saw this person casually sitting on Lin Ying's kang (a heated brick bed), she knew why Lin Ying was so annoyed with her.

Lin Ying was a doctor by profession, and Li Yue'e knew that she was somewhat of a germaphobe.

She showers every day, even in the dead of winter. When she comes here to chat, she always sits on the sofa in the living room; she's never sat on someone's kang (heated brick bed) like this before. But she just took off her shoes and got on.

"Hey, what's wrong with you? Can't you see the child is so sleepy he can barely keep his eyes open? And you're sitting in their house, what, do you expect me to throw a feast for you?"

"You!" Commander Xing's wife glared, but then remembered what her husband had said: if she caused any more trouble, he would divorce her. After all, Li Yue'e's husband was a political commissar, and they worked together. It wouldn't look good if things got too ugly.

"I just thought Lin Ying was alright, right? Well, since you're busy, I'll come another time. Haha."

With a forced laugh, the man got off the kang (a heated brick bed), put on his shoes, and left.

Lin Ying looked at the spot where she had sat, now crumpled up, and felt a chill run down her spine.

"Pfft, you're great in every way, except for this germaphobia."

Seeing Li Yue'e talking about her, Lin Ying smiled a little embarrassedly: "I'm used to it. Sister-in-law, thank you for today. If it weren't for you, I'm afraid I would have argued with her."

Li Yue'e asked curiously, "Wait, why did this person come looking for you out of the blue?"

Lin Ying said helplessly, "When I came back from town today, she greeted me as I passed by her door. I couldn't just pretend I didn't see her, could I? Who knew she would come over this afternoon? I was just outside putting up straw mats. As a result, she came in and started yelling, which scared the child so much that he wet the bed. She also woke up Shuanzi."

Actually, Lin Ying initially wanted to pretend she hadn't seen that person. However, since she was in the compound, she really didn't want to have an unpleasant encounter with a group of people like she did when she first arrived.

So when people greet her, she responds politely.

Who knew this person was so sticky, like a piece of loose stool.

As she spoke, Lin Ying carried the already sleeping Er Ya to the bed next to her, and then carried the somewhat drowsy Shuanzi over as well.

"It's okay, go to sleep." These words seemed to have a calming effect, completely relaxing the previously restless Shuanzi. Lin Ying patted him twice, and the child fell asleep.

Li Yue'e watched Lin Ying busy herself and left after making sure she had nothing else to do. She wasn't exactly idle either. Anyone who's lived here long enough knows that before it snows, no one is ever truly still.

Lin Ying then ripped off Er Ya's wet leather clothes, along with her pants and the bed sheet.

Lin Ying's family was different from others. While other families laid mats on their kang (heated brick bed), Lin Ying's family used a bed. They didn't eat on the kang; it was only used for sleeping. There was no need to put the bed away every day.

This is also why Lin Ying felt so disgusted by this person sitting on her kang (a heated brick bed) earlier.

Lin Ying, who had originally planned to set up a mat, had no choice but to take advantage of the good sunshine to wash the bed sheets and Er Ya's clothes and hang them up to dry.

Then they got busy nailing straw mats again.

She was unaware that her reputation had been ruined beyond repair after the Xing family exaggerated the story about her in front of the other new military wives.

To make the straw mat secure, Lin Ying cut some thin strips of wood. She then used the strips and nails to fasten the straw mat under the eaves.

To improve the lighting in the house, Lin Ying spent a lot of money to buy two pieces of plastic sheeting. Instead of using straw mats, she nailed the plastic sheeting above the windows.

It was reinforced with wooden sticks, nailed on all four sides. Luckily, the factory gave her so many industrial vouchers; otherwise, there really wouldn't have been anything she could have done.

While Lin Ying was busy, she saw Shuanzi struggling to carry Er Ya out.

Lin Ying jumped down from the shelf and caught Er Ya, who was about to fall: "Aren't you going to sleep?"

Shuanzi nodded: "I still want to play with the handsome young man."

Lin Ying smiled and said, "Have some water before you go."

Shuanzi obediently went to the kitchen stove, picked up a canned food jar, and gulped down a few mouthfuls.

"Auntie, I've finished drinking. I'm going to go play with the handsome young man."

Lin Ying responded, and Shuanzi left.

After Shuanzi left, Lin Ying suddenly looked up and couldn't help but laugh. What a nice name for Xiao Shuai!

Seeing that there were only two or three spots left to finish, Lin Ying simply hung Er Ya on the wall again and gave her a piece of sponge cake to eat. She quickly finished the remaining spots.

Despite the presence of two plastic sheets, it was still somewhat dark inside because of the straw mats nailed on top.

Having heard that the power lines have been installed, Lin Ying only hopes that her house will have electric lights before winter arrives.

After finishing her work here, Lin Ying took Er Ya to the well in the backyard.

After hanging Er Ya on the wall once again, Lin Ying continued her busy work.

The newly bought pickle jar needed to be soaked in water overnight to remove any residual heat. This would prevent the pickles from spoiling easily. Lin Ying filled all three jars with water. Seeing that they still had some time, Lin Ying decided to take Er Ya up the mountain.
