Chapter 212 Two Years Later

Lin Ying never imagined that her carefully crafted little car would only be a means of transportation; her dream of a long journey was simply out of the question. If she had to name a trip, it would be a picnic for the whole family in a scenic spot during the summer holidays.

She usually uses this car when she goes to town to buy things.

Zhao Qinghuai, except for occasional trips, would return in a few days, unlike before when he would be gone for months at a time.

Lin Ying knew that this was not a good thing at all; on the contrary, it was because the turmoil outside had become more severe and had already affected the military.

Not only Zhao Qinghuai, but the entire town of Fanxing was in a gloomy mood.

The once bustling and lively town of Fanxing seemed to be shrouded in a gloomy atmosphere. Pedestrians on the streets hurried along, their faces showing undisguised worry and unease. The number of people coming and going in the town was now much smaller.

Wu Bo had even suspended the sideline businesses in each village to focus solely on production and actively cooperate with the higher authorities. He didn't know how long this situation would last, but he did know that Fanxing Town was now standing out too much. The once poorest town now had red brick houses in every household, which was bound to attract envy.

Therefore, they must keep a low profile now. As long as they have houses, they won't freeze. As for food, everyone has saved some money in the past two years. Each household can make ends meet by living frugally.

The storm won't last forever; the rain will eventually stop!

In the past, the area where the Lin family lived was a place where neighbors would often visit each other, and children would laugh and play in the alleys, full of the warmth and life of everyday life.

Now, every household keeps their doors tightly shut. Those who do open their doors do so quickly, as if afraid of getting caught up in trouble if they stay outside for even a moment longer. The children, too, are told by their parents to stay at home. The laughter and joy that used to echo through the alleyways now seem like distant memories, never to be heard again.

Two years passed in this oppressive atmosphere.

In the blink of an eye, it was 1973. Two years is neither a long nor a short time. Haoyu was already in the third grade, and Shuanzi had become a first-grade elementary school student.

Er Ya and Liu Zi learned about herbs from Lin Ying.

In the past two years, due to the turmoil outside, Lin Ying has focused her attention on her children's education. She began to emphasize their special talents and then nurtured them further.

Haoyu has exceptional martial arts talent, the best besides Liu Zi. He's also the smartest among them. Although Haoyu is currently in third grade, he has already self-studied junior high school material.

Speaking of which, because Lin Ying always asked for Hao Yu to be absent when he was in first grade, the teacher thought Lin Ying was an irresponsible parent.

Unfortunately, the person in charge of Haoyu's class was Han Xiangxiu, the wife of the instructor of the Second Regiment.

Normally, Han Xiangxiu was aloof and rarely interacted with the military wives in the compound. Back then, apart from always going to town together to take the bus, Lin Ying and Han Xiangxiu had basically no contact.

She never expected that Han Xiangxiu would tell Haoyu's biological mother, Pei Zhen, about her request for leave for Haoyu.

When Lin Ying learned of this, she felt both angry and helpless. She hadn't expected Han Xiangxiu to be so nosy and even tell Pei Zhen about it. She had always taken good care of Haoyu, but was misunderstood like this, which was truly unfair.

That day, Lin Ying went to pick up Haoyu from school. Just as she reached the classroom door, she saw Han Xiangxiu standing there, talking to Pei Zhen with a serious expression. Pei Zhen's eyes flashed with displeasure when she saw Lin Ying.

“Lin Ying, I heard you’re always asking for leave for Haoyu. You can’t be so careless about this child’s education.” Pei Zhen stepped forward, her tone accusatory.

Lin Ying took a deep breath, trying to stay calm, and said, "Pei Zhen, there's a reason I asked Haoyu for leave. I've always valued his education. You can ask Haoyu; his studies haven't fallen behind at all."

Han Xiangxiu sneered from the side: "Has he fallen behind in his studies? Look at the other children, they are all studying in an orderly manner, but Haoyu is always missing classes. How can this be good?"

Lin Ying looked at Han Xiangxiu with a hint of questioning in her eyes: "Teacher Han, it's our family matter for me to ask for leave for my child. As a teacher, aren't you meddling too much? Besides, you told Pei Zhen about this without my consent. Is that appropriate?"

Han Xiangxiu felt a hint of embarrassment when Lin Ying said that, but she quickly regained her aloof demeanor: "I'm doing this for the child's own good. If you don't value your child's education, then don't delay his development."

At this moment, Haoyu ran out of the classroom and, seeing this scene, stood nervously beside Lin Ying.

"Mom, I understand everything now. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking leave," Haoyu said softly.

Pei Zhen looked at Haoyu, then at Lin Ying, and her tone softened slightly: "Lin Ying, I know you care about Haoyu, but studying is still very important. Please try not to take leave so often in the future, okay?"

Lin Ying knew there was no point in arguing any further, so she nodded and said, "I understand. I'll be more careful in the future."

Back home, Lin Ying was still feeling down. When Zhao Qinghuai returned and saw Lin Ying's expression, he asked with concern, "Wife, what's wrong?"

Lin Ying told Zhao Qinghuai what had happened. After listening, Zhao Qinghuai frowned and said, "Han Xiangxiu really went too far. But wife, don't take it too hard. We know what's going on with Haoyu."

However, Lin Ying did not expect that Haoyu would get a perfect score on both the final exams.

When he returned, Haoyu proudly told Lin Ying, "Mom, the teachers won't bother me with taking leave anymore!" Haoyu's grades showed Han Xiangxiu that perfect scores weren't the limit of his ability, but rather the limit of the test. He hadn't let taking leave interfere with his studies.
