Chapter 57 Eating Meat

Lin Ying glanced at the spot Xiao Qiang was pointing to: "Right? I've never done that before either."

Seeing the group of children sitting there with their bowls in their hands, their eyes filled with curiosity about semiconductors, Lin Ying was amused again.

She went over to take a look, found a battery inside, and opened it.

At first, it just made a hissing sound. Lin Ying studied it for a while and tried jumping the platform. Unexpectedly, she actually found the sound.

"There's sound!"

"It's music! The music is playing!"

"It sounds so nice."

Lin Ying had never heard of it before and didn't know what it was. It was bought by Zhao Qinghuai when he got married, but she wasn't interested in it and had just left it there.

"Put all your clothes in the back room, then sit on the floor and take a good look. Don't worry, my floor isn't dirty."

They even climbed into ditches, not caring at all about getting dirty.

Seeing clothes strewn everywhere in the room, everyone voluntarily put their thick clothes in the back room Lin Ying had mentioned. Then they quickly returned to the living room to listen to the radio.

Lin Ying was worried that they would feel awkward with her there, and besides, her family didn't have a big enough dining table for so many children. Remembering that she still had some firewood at home, she simply put on a light jacket and went out.

She plans to make two long tables. And they'll be low tables, the kind where they can sit on the floor and lean over to eat.

As for the small sofa at home, we can put it in the back room later.

While Lin Ying was making the table, a child who looked about seven or eight years old ran out from inside, then ran around once before turning back and asking somewhat shyly, "Auntie, where's your toilet?"

Lin Ying then realized that they could recognize the bathtub, but not necessarily the toilet.

So he put down what he was holding and said, "The toilet is inside. Go in first and take off your shoes, and I'll tell you where it is."

Although the child found it unbelievable, he still obediently went into the room.

Lin Ying returned to the room, taking off her shoes as she pointed towards the bathroom: "There are slippers by the door. Wear them when you go to the toilet." As she spoke, Lin Ying had already entered the room and then pointed to the toilet for the child: "It's right here. See that bucket of water? Just rinse it off with water after you're done using the toilet."

As she spoke, Lin Ying demonstrated, and the child's eyes lit up.

Seeing that he was twisting even more violently, Lin Ying quickly went out and thoughtfully closed the door behind her.

After coming out, Lin Ying saw that the meat in the pot was stewed until it was tender, so she took out the large pieces of meat, cut them into smaller pieces, and put them back into the pot to continue stewing.

She made braised food, adding all sorts of seasonings and rock sugar. She also added some wine to remove any fishy smell. She used quite a lot of various spices and herbs as well. The flavor was very rich.

No wonder these kids' appetites were whetted.

Seeing that it would take a while longer to simmer, Lin Ying went back to work.

Her living room wasn't very big, so she made two low tables. After setting up the tables, the stew in the pot was almost done. Lin Ying went back and moved the sofa and small coffee table to the back bedroom, then moved the two small tables inside.

Several of the older children were quick to help, while the younger ones stayed out of the way as much as possible.

After finishing all that, Lin Ying went out to boil water. Since her family's large cooking pot was in use, Lin Ying had to use the pot she used for boiling bath water.

After the water boiled, Lin Ying called the children over one by one to wash their hands and faces.

Because of the cold weather and the inconvenience of fetching water, many families have already started eating snow, so many children really don't wash their hands or faces every day after waking up.

Lin Ying let Xiao Qiang try first, and she taught him how to wash his hands and face with facial cleanser. Then she assigned him the task of teaching the other children.

Lin Ying was rolling out noodles over there.

After the children finished washing up, there was a little water left in the pot. Lin Ying poured in the bone broth that had been stewing outside, which was just enough for the noodles.

"Alright, come over here one by one with your bowls, following the order in which you washed your faces."

As soon as Lin Ying called out, Xiao Qiang was the first to run out with his bowl in hand.

Lin Ying served him a bowl of noodles and a piece of green vegetable. Then she scooped a full spoonful of meat from the braised pork pot for him.

"Be careful." Lin Ying said, handing the bowl to Xiao Qiang.

Seeing Xiaoqiang go over, Lin Ying said again, "Xiaoqiang, you older kids should help your younger siblings carry this later. They're too small, they'll get burned."

Upon hearing this, Xiaoqiang immediately and obediently agreed.

He's already gained some prestige as the head of the handwashing and face-washing campaign. Now the children all listen to him.

The pot was big, and Lin Ying was worried about whether there were any children, so she put all the noodles into the pot at once. There was enough for everyone.

However, Lin Ying was worried that they wouldn't be able to finish it, so she would only give half a bowl to people like Xiao Shuai, and let them ask for more if they weren't full.

Two small tables were set up in the living room, and everyone sat around them. At this point, no one was listening to what was playing on the radio anymore. Everyone was staring at the meat in their bowls.

Lin Ying served herself a bowl as well. When she came in and saw that no one had started eating, she couldn't help but ask curiously, "Eat up! Why aren't you eating?"

The children seemed to have been given a command before they started eating.

To be fair, Lin Ying put two pieces of meat in each bowl, the rest being offal and a pig's head. However, it was clear they were wolfing it down, indicating her cooking was quite good.

Lin Ying said she would provide as much as she wanted, so she wasn't stingy.

However, I was also worried that they would overeat, so I told them that if they were full and still wanted to eat, they shouldn't come next time.

When the children heard that there would be a next time, they all obeyed.

He only ate what was in his bowl, and unless someone with a big appetite asked for a second bowl, he didn't give Lin Ying any more.
