Chapter 57 Eating Meat

After they finished eating, Lin Ying told them to line up and wash the dishes. She said they could play at her house if they wanted, or go out if they wanted.

The children wanted to listen to the radio, and they were all so full that they were too lazy to go outside and just sat on the floor.

The fire in Lin Ying's stove had been turned off. She was just keeping it warm with residual heat.

The children were in the living room, so she curled up on the sofa in the back bedroom. The room was a bit stuffy, so she simply turned on the light and read a book there.

Lin Ying had her reasons for sharing meat with the children.

Given Lin Ying's current situation, she feels she'll be eating meat quite often in the future. In this era of scarcity, who can smell the aroma of meat every day?

If Lin Ying wants to eat meat regularly, she has to share some; otherwise, the military wives who already consider her a class enemy will definitely make an issue of it.

If too many military wives cause trouble, the military might implement a collective system like in villages. At that time, many eyes will definitely be watching her. This will not only mean losing her freedom, but also that she will have no choice but to abstain from meat in order to prevent those she dislikes from eating the meat she has obtained.

If that's the case, she might as well set aside a portion. As for who gets it and who doesn't, being too explicit about it could easily lead to her being accused of "stirring up internal conflicts."

But it's different when it comes to feeding children. Children are an adult's weakness. When the jealousy isn't so intense, those people will think about how she let her children eat her food, and subconsciously they'll feel indebted to Lin Ying.

People who eat another's food are obligated to do so. Even the most shameless people will feel guilty if they eat her food and then turn around and curse her.

Lin Ying doesn't need these people to be grateful to her; she just needs them to stop doing bad things behind her back.

After an unknown amount of time, Zhao Qinghuai returned and was speechless upon seeing his family's bunch of children.

"Hurry back, everyone! Your families are looking for the children! Where's your aunt?"

Everyone pointed inside.

Zhao Qinghuai said, "Hurry up and get dressed, or you'll all get a beating. None of you even told your families before coming here!"

One of the boys couldn't help but say, "I won't tell, or my mom won't let us come anymore."

"That's right, my mother is so mean, she's always saying bad things about my aunt. But actually, my aunt is a very good person."

"That's right, Auntie even gave us meat to eat!"

"And the noodles are so delicious."

When Zhao Qinghuai entered the house, he also smelled the fragrance. After hearing what they were saying, he guessed what was going on: "Children are not allowed to discuss adult matters. Go back quickly. By the way, where are your clothes?"

Seeing the children point inside, Zhao Qinghuai walked towards the inner room.

When I went in, I saw that Lin Ying was asleep. I didn't disturb her, but took out all her clothes and said, "Here, take your own clothes and wear them."

Watching the children get dressed one by one and then each take a bowl and chopsticks and go out, Zhao Qinghuai was amused by the scene.

Lin Ying suddenly woke up, glanced at the time, and saw it was already around 2 PM. She quickly checked to see if the children were still at her house; if so, she needed to tell them to go home immediately.

Unexpectedly, when I came out, I saw Zhao Qinghuai at home, but the children had all left.
