Chapter 58 Two Tigers

Meanwhile, the military dependents outside were all calling their children home for dinner. They all assumed their children had gone to someone's house to play, but after asking around for a long time and not finding them, they started to panic.

Fearing the children might have gone outside, they went to ask the guard at the gate, only to find they hadn't seen the children come over.

Everyone assumed the children had gone up the mountain, which is why they rushed over here.

As soon as they arrived at Lin Ying's house, they saw the children coming out one by one with bowls and chopsticks in their hands.

The bowls were empty, but the children were not disappointed, and their faces were clean.

The military wives looked at each other, unsure of what to say.

The children, on the other hand, were carefree: "Mom, we ate meat and noodles at Auntie's house, and we even listened to the radio."

"My aunt's house is so nice. The outhouse doesn't smell at all, and the floors are always warm."

The older children were even more direct: "Mom, Auntie is so nice, please don't say bad things about her anymore."

The child's parents blushed deeply.

"Go home! If you keep running around like this, I'll break your legs!"

It was noisy outside, and Lin Ying saw it through the window, but she didn't go out. She invited the children to dinner not to repay their kindness.

As Lin Ying watched Zhao Qinghuai take off his clothes, she said, "There's braised meat in the pot, and bone broth in the big pot next to it. I'll light the fire and make you some noodles."

Zhao Qinghuai raised an eyebrow: "You've grabbed quite a bit of meat?"

Lin Ying remained calm: "When we were cutting down the pear tree, a wild boar ran into it."

"Oh, ah? Comrade Lin Ying, you went to the back mountain?"

Seeing Zhao Qinghuai about to explode, Lin Ying calmly said, "It's nothing. With my strength, I could cut off the head of any wild beast with one stroke."

Zhao Qinghuai laughed angrily: "You think you're invincible with your strength? You really think those wild beasts are brainless? Just sticking their heads out for you to chop?"

Lin Ying couldn't reveal that she had a spatial ability, and seeing Zhao Qinghuai's attitude, she knew he wouldn't give up unless she compromised. So she replied casually:

"Yes, yes, I'll be more careful in the future."

It didn't say what to pay attention to.

Zhao Qinghuai was even angrier. How could he not hear such obvious perfunctory words?

But before he could say anything more, Lin Ying said, "This isn't my first time up the mountain! How many times have I been up here in the past six months? Isn't it too late for you to start educating me now? If you're so capable, why don't you keep an eye on me every day?"

Zhao Qinghuai felt a lump in his throat. He knew Lin Ying wasn't complaining about his frequent absences, but simply stating a fact. Yet, it was precisely this fact that left him anxious and helpless. He was caught between a rock and a hard place.

Lin Ying laughed when she saw him like that: "So, are you going to eat meat or not?"

What could Zhao Qinghuai do? "Eat!"

After Zhao Qinghuai finished eating, Lin Ying poured the rest of the food from the pot into a basin and then froze it in the snow outside. The temperature inside was too high, and it would probably spoil if left there.

That night, however, Zhao Qinghuai deliberately tormented Lin Ying during their intimate moments, leaving her feeling trapped and unable to move. But in the end, Zhao Qinghuai gave in, holding Lin Ying tightly and saying, "You absolutely can't let anything happen to me!"

Lin Ying's reply was: "Why are you saying that to yourself!" He was clearly the one who was in danger at any moment!

The next day, after Zhao Qinghuai went to the army, Lin Ying filled the firewood feeder with firewood, made another pair of hiking boots, and went up the mountain again.

She didn't expect that as soon as she went to the back mountain, the big tiger from yesterday would appear and start sniffing around her. Lin Ying knew that the guy was looking for well water again, so she didn't hold back and, just like yesterday, made an ice bowl in the snow and filled it with a bucket of water.

Then Lin Ying went to find something to eat.

When Zhao Qinghuai went home last time to raid the place, he asked Lin Ying about the nuts and other things in the house, and took everything that was good for the eyes. So, after she went up the mountain, she picked up whatever she saw.

She now has space and doesn't have to worry about not being able to fit everything in one basket.

The small animals on the outskirts of the back hill dare not come over, and the people in the courtyard dare not come in. So, apart from what Lin Ying had collected earlier, there was actually quite a lot left.

It's a pity that some of the raindrops fell to the ground during the wind and rain.

Following her memory, Lin Ying arrived at a chestnut tree. She remembered that the tree had been laden with fruit before winter, but she had already collected enough things by then, so she hadn't bothered with it.

There was nothing on the trees now, so she guessed that they must have been buried under the snow.

Sure enough, after digging a couple of times with a shovel, Lin Ying saw a layer of chestnuts that were "about to bloom".

Lin Ying didn't hesitate to put all these cute little things into her space.

Then we went to the next place.

Around 10 o'clock, Lin Ying prepared to head back, but unexpectedly, she encountered the large tiger again before she returned. However, this time the tiger didn't immediately sniff her; instead, it was dragging along an animal that resembled a deer but wasn't, whose neck had been bitten off by the tiger and which was already lifeless.

Lin Ying's eyes widened. This must be a roe deer, right?

Seeing the tiger drag the roe deer towards her, Lin Ying pointed to herself in disbelief: "For me?"

"Awoo~"

Goodness, they even know how to reciprocate?

Lin Ying was indeed very curious about roe deer, but she had only ever wandered around the perimeter and had never actually encountered one: "Okay, I'll take it if you give it to me, but I won't take your things for nothing."

As she spoke, Lin Ying made an ice bowl and then a bucket of well water.

Unexpectedly, this time the tiger didn't drink directly, but instead roared again. Lin Ying then saw another tiger, even larger than the first one, running towards them from the back mountain.

Lin Ying instinctively became wary when she saw the unfamiliar tigers, but to her surprise, the two tigers started nuzzling each other in front of her.

After a while, the tiger that came later started drinking the water, which was now covered in ice crystals.

Lin Ying understood; these two were probably a couple.

"You should drink the water and then leave quickly."

She said, "Didn't they say there were a lot of wolves here? How come I haven't heard any wolves howling since that tiger chased them away yesterday? Turns out there are two tigers here. I guess the wolves don't dare to roam around here anymore."

"Remember, don't go where there are people. You can eat whatever you want, just don't eat people. People hold grudges! Understand?"

Regardless of whether the tiger could understand her, Lin Ying finished speaking, put the roe deer into her spatial storage, and then went back with her basket on her back.

Back home, Lin Ying looked at the roe deer with a troubled expression. She had just eaten meat yesterday, and eating roe deer again today was really too much for her.

After thinking about it, I decided to clean out the roe deer first and then bury them in the snow. I took out the braised pork from yesterday, sliced it into a plate, stir-fried some vegetables with the meat, and cooked rice. It was a very satisfying meal.

After finishing her meal, Lin Ying went to the riverbank, not to eat fish, but to collect pebbles. She planned to roast chestnuts.

After the group of children arrived yesterday, Lin Ying felt that she was running low on snacks at home. So, she decided to cook some dried goods for herself.
