Zhong Hua gripped her phone tightly, her fingers turning white with anger and helplessness. She gritted her teeth and said, "Gu Yanting, you're so despicable! Why did you do this to us?" Gu Yanting laughed smugly on the other end of the line, "Hmph, I want you to know that there's no good end to going against me. I'll give you one day to think it over. By this time tomorrow, if Ah Yu hasn't left you, you can prepare to collect your mother's corpse!" With that, he hung up.
Zhong Hua stood blankly on the street, tears blurring her vision once again. She felt she had been driven to the brink of despair, torn between her beloved Ah Yu and her mother's life. This difficult choice felt as if her heart had been ripped into countless pieces.
She returned home, sat on the sofa, holding a photo of herself and Ah Yu, reminiscing about their time together. She knew Ah Yu was the most important person in her life, and she didn't want to lose him. But her mother's life was equally important, and she couldn't bear to watch her mother lose her chance for treatment because of her.
Time slipped away in agonizing torment, each second feeling like an eternity. Zhong Hua paced back and forth in her room, her inner turmoil growing ever more intense. She thought of Ah Yu, who had tirelessly worked for her, never giving up even when facing an industry blacklist; his perseverance and deep affection moved her deeply. Yet, her mother's frail face and expectant eyes kept flashing through her mind.
Finally, after countless internal struggles, Zhong Hua made a decision. She picked up her phone and, with trembling hands, sent a text message to A Yu: "A Yu, let's break up. I don't want to drag you down anymore. Gu Yanting promised me that as long as I leave you, he will pay for my mother's medical expenses. I'm sorry, forget about me..." After sending the message, she threw her phone aside and collapsed onto the sofa, as if her soul had been ripped away.
A moment later, Ah Yu called. Zhong Hua stared at the name flashing on her phone screen, her heart aching. She hesitated for a moment, then resolutely hung up. Afterward, she turned off her phone, locked herself in her room, and let her tears flow freely once more.
Night fell again, and Zhong Hua lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. She didn't know if her decision was right, nor how Ah Yu would react to the text message. But she knew that for her mother's sake, she had no other choice.
On this long and painful night, Zhong Hua gradually fell asleep through her tears. In her dream, she saw her mother's recovered smile and also saw Ah Yu's lonely departing figure...
In the days that followed, Zhong Hua lived like a walking corpse. She went to the hospital every day to care for her mother, watching her condition gradually stabilize under the treatment provided by Gu Yanting, but felt no joy. She knew that all of this had come at the cost of her relationship with Ah Yu.
Meanwhile, Ah Yu went into a frenzy after receiving Zhong Hua's breakup text message. He kept dialing Zhong Hua's number, but couldn't get through. He knew this must be Gu Yanting's scheme. He was frantic, searching everywhere for Zhong Hua, wanting to tell her that no matter what difficulties they encountered, they would face them together and not give up easily.
Finally, Ah Yu found out which hospital Zhong Hua was in through a friend. He rushed to the hospital and saw Zhong Hua taking care of his mother outside the ward. When Zhong Hua saw Ah Yu, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by pain and helplessness.
Ah Yu rushed into the ward, grabbing Zhong Hua's shoulders tightly, and said anxiously, "Zhong Hua, why did you do this? We promised to face everything together. How could you give up our relationship because of Gu Yanting's threats?" Zhong Hua turned his head away, not daring to look Ah Yu in the eye, and said, forcing back tears, "Ah Yu, go. I've made up my mind. I can't just watch my mother die because we can't afford treatment." Ah Yu looked at Zhong Hua, her eyes filled with heartache and anger: "Zhong Hua, you're so foolish! Gu Yanting is completely untrustworthy. He just wants to use you to separate us and then continue to torment us. We must have other ways. We'll work together to save your mother and expose Gu Yanting's true colors."
Hearing Ah Yu's words, Zhong Hua felt a pang of doubt. She longed to face and overcome the difficulties with Ah Yu. However, her mother's illness prevented her from taking the risk; she feared that if she refused Gu Yanting, her mother would lose her life.
Just as Zhong Hua hesitated, the ward door was suddenly pushed open, and Gu Yanting walked in. He looked at A Yu and Zhong Hua, a smug smile on his face: "Hmph, A Yu, you've finally come. Zhong Hua has made the right choice, so stop bothering me." A Yu glared angrily at Gu Yanting: "Gu Yanting, you despicable man! Do you think you can succeed like this? I will definitely expose your crimes and make you pay the price!" Gu Yanting smiled disdainfully: "You? You can't even protect yourself now, and you still want to fight me? I advise you to be sensible and leave quickly, or I'll make sure neither you nor Zhong Hua have a good ending!"
Zhong Hua watched the two men locked in a tense standoff, her heart filled with fear and helplessness. She was afraid that Ah Yu would be hurt because of her, and she was also afraid that her mother's illness would be affected by this conflict. She took Ah Yu's hand and whispered, "Ah Yu, please go, I beg you..." Ah Yu looked at Zhong Hua, her eyes filled with disappointment and pain: "Zhong Hua, you...you really want to do this?" Zhong Hua bit her lip and silently nodded.
Ah Yu released Zhong Hua's hand and turned to leave the ward. His steps were heavy and slow, each one feeling like it was pounding on his own heart. Watching Ah Yu's departing figure, Zhong Hua's eyes blurred with tears again. She knew she might have lost Ah Yu forever, the man she loved so deeply.
