Chapter Twelve: The Great Ship

Chen Jing didn't turn around to look, but the Black Knight's gaze felt like thorns in his back.

Chen Jing tried to remain calm. He suddenly had a feeling that the other party had indeed noticed him, but he didn't realize that he was currently invisible, a state that others couldn't see.

Just then, the Black Knight spoke.

Why isn't Miss Pan here?

The voice sounded rather neutral, and for a moment, Chen Jing couldn't tell whether the Black Knight was male or female.

Chen Jing turned around naturally and stopped next to the sailors on the large ship, as if he were not an infiltrator who was going to sneak into the ship, but a mysterious figure who should have been there all along.

When Chen Jing saw the Black Knight staring into his eyes, his guess was confirmed.

Calm down, calm down.

Chen Jing recalled the indifferent and ruthless gaze of the slave spirit he had seen earlier, and he tried to imitate that state.

indifferent.

Just then, a sailor next to Chen Jing said, "The city lord came earlier and took Miss Pan away."

"Lord of the City." The Black Knight's tone initially held a hint of surprise and doubt, followed by a somewhat mocking repetition: "Lord of the City?"

Ash City has a lord and a council. Although everyone knows that the real ruler is Blackhand, the owner of this great ship, the nominal decrees still come from the lord.

Chen Jing had also heard of the City Lord. In reality, the City Lord had many rather harsh decrees. On the contrary, Black Hand often played the role of a benevolent person, occasionally giving alms. Many people who did not know the truth would think that Black Hand was the great philanthropist and that the City Lord was a greedy and ruthless person. They had petitioned many times to let Black Hand become the City Lord.

People like Chen Jing, who know even a little bit of the truth, would only scoff at it.

The city lord "Liu Hua" is nothing more than a puppet of the mastermind!

As for Miss Pan, Chen Jing didn't recognize her, but he guessed that she was an important figure in the black hand gang.

The Black Knight's gaze swept over Chen Jing, and he said to Chen Jing and the sailors on board, "The prisoners have been captured, and there are still some who are on the run. I'll go deal with them."

“Thank you for your help, High Priest,” a sailor beside Chen Jing replied.

A priest? Chen Jing glanced at the knight in full armor. He was a priest?

In the ancient Song Dynasty, and in other countries abroad, almost all countries have a belief in gods. The Song Dynasty believed in "hero gods," which were less like lofty deities and more like a yearning for the heroes of their ancestors.

Gods truly exist! During the war in the ruins, gods descended to the mortal world to interfere in worldly affairs! They even personally entered the battlefield and fought each other.

Many people say that the reason why the former Song Dynasty became ruins was mainly because the people of the former Song Dynasty did not worship gods, but rather mortals who stole divine power, thus incurring the wrath of the gods. However, the people of the Song Dynasty scoffed at this idea.

In Chen Jing's understanding, the so-called gods were probably just extremely powerful cultivators. He believed that the reason why the Song Dynasty became the Former Song, and prosperity turned into ruins, was because the Former Song was the losing side in the high-level divine war, and this was the reasonable explanation.

Priests, on the other hand, are people who serve the gods. In the knowledge that Chen Jing had heard, priests of the Song Dynasty often wore white robes and carried long swords. It was hard to imagine that they would be dressed as knights in full plate armor.

"Could it be... that he is a priest of another god?" Chen Jing wondered.

He knew nothing about other countries outside of the former Song Dynasty and their gods, so he couldn't think of anything.

The Black Knight snorted and said, "Don't let our city lord feel disgraced."

He said this while staring at Chen Jing.

Chen Jing felt a little strange, but he couldn't ask. He could only continue to pretend to be aloof and gloomy until the Black Knight turned around and left with most of the others.

Chen Jing breathed a sigh of relief and immediately turned around to enter the cabin. He had already used up almost half of his spiritual energy to become invisible!

Although there might be others in the cabin, and Chen Jing didn't know where Wan Tong was being held, he had to take the risk and deactivate his invisibility, as he didn't have much spiritual power left.

The Black Hand's ship had a wide beam, a forecastle and a sterncastle, and was equipped with four masts. It was huge and sturdy, with two battle masts on the mainmast, where snipers armed with rifles stood.

With multiple decks and numerous cabins, mortars at the rear, chain guns at the bow, and gun emplacements on both sides, totaling twelve light guns and four heavy guns, it was more like a massive war fortress than a ship!

The large ship also had davits on its sides, with two small boats suspended from them. The deck edges were also protected by safety nets woven from asphalt-coated ropes, intended to deter humans…or non-humans, from attempting to board.

Chen Jing also saw a long ladder with an iron hook at the top, which was placed on a movable base, as if it could be dragged and pulled down at any time for boarding operations.

The entire ship had a dark and gloomy style, whether due to the heavy fog surrounding it or the ship's predominantly black color.

Chen Jing wasn't familiar with ship mechanics, but he figured the superstructure wasn't a place for imprisoning people, especially since there were many sailors guarding it. Searching while remaining invisible would be a waste of his spiritual energy.

He turned down the stairs from the deck and searched floor by floor, walking through the cramped cabins, looking for steps and other structures.

But perhaps it was very lucky, there was not much movement inside the cabin, as if most of the sailors were on the deck.

Chen Jing strained his hearing, trying to catch a sound, but to no avail.

As they searched layer by layer, Chen Jing discovered that most of the cabin doors were locked, presumably the living quarters of the Black Hand team members and sailors.
