Chapter 175 The Fate of the Guzheng (Part 1)

Cang Wei, holding the person in his arms, got into the car. He coldly ordered, "Drive."

The car sped off immediately, like a leopard in the forest.

Ling Ruoke's body was still burning hot, and she made uncomfortable sounds, shifting restlessly in his arms. Her brows were deeply furrowed, as if she were in real pain.

Cang Wei rubbed her back through her clothes, and the sound she made changed; she seemed to feel comfortable. She even subconsciously rubbed against his chest, trying to relieve the burning, limp feeling in her body.

The driver cleverly installed the soundproofing and one-way glass between the front and rear seats, separating the two worlds. As a driver, not seeing what you shouldn't see and not hearing what you shouldn't hear is the best way to protect yourself.

Cang Wei's hands could only linger on her back and arms; he had promised the leader of the Tianlang Gang that he wouldn't touch her if she didn't want to. But seeing her writhing in discomfort and moaning, he felt his self-control crumbling little by little.

This was torture for her, but it was no less so for him.

His longing for her wasn't something that had only developed overnight. The longer time passed, the deeper and stronger this longing grew. Every night, he regretted not having spent a night with her, only able to imagine it. He regretted even more that he had been blinded by hatred, destroying their love and marriage; otherwise, they would surely be a loving couple with children by their side by now.

Fortunately, after a while, Ling Ruoke's fever gradually subsided. It seemed that the food the woman had given her could counteract the effects of the aphrodisiac. Perhaps because she was no longer so uncomfortable, she stopped fidgeting and instead nestled obediently against his chest, falling asleep. Her little face was still rosy, as pink and tender as a baby's skin. Several years had passed since they first met, and she had remained unchanged.

However, his face was distorted from the beating, making him look quite pitiful.

Cang Wei stared at her flushed face for a long time, and finally couldn't resist, so he lowered his head and kissed her cheek. The soft, smooth skin touching his lips once again challenged his self-control.

He took a deep breath, afraid to make any further moves, and slightly parted his legs to let the burning sensation cool and soften. However, this didn't seem to work; it stubbornly remained standing, ignoring his thoughts. Fortunately, the person in his arms was sleeping peacefully, making no move to add fuel to the fire.

The car drove forward for a while, then suddenly made a sharp turn, veering off onto another road. The two cars switched places, and the car Cang Weiwo was in headed in the opposite direction from the road they had just left. The woods were dense, and soon the car disappeared without a trace.

I don't know how much time passed, it felt like an eternity to Cang Wei, before we finally arrived at our destination.

The car screeched to a halt, and Cang Wei carefully stepped out, carrying Ling Ruoke in his arms. Looking at the house before him, a confident smile appeared on his face. He coldly ordered, "Clean up the room, make the bed, quickly."

"yes."

Cang Wei clung to her as they stood in the hall, the air still thick with the smell of blood. They would wait for the others to catch up and then clean up the mess.

It was already dark, and the temperature in the suburbs was low, so he instinctively hugged the person in his arms tighter. The wind blew through the woods, occasionally making some eerie sounds. If it were an ordinary person, they would probably have been scared and hidden away long ago.

Cang Weiwo gazed calmly at the woods outside. The trees were tall, swaying in the wind in the dark night, looking from a distance like a group of menacing monsters. The strange noises that kept ringing out added to the eerie atmosphere.

In a daze, I recalled my days in the special forces. Spending the night in the terrifying forest was commonplace then; fear had long since been cast aside. They weren't afraid of wild animals coming to eat them; they were afraid of never encountering any. Just like their captain said, "We are wild animals more terrifying than wild animals!"

Cang Wei loved life in the special forces, but he gave it all up for revenge. He left the special forces, took everything from the Cang family, and made the old man who had driven him and his mother out of the house die with resentment in his eyes. For the sake of hatred, he also hurt the woman in his arms, losing the only warmth he had ever had for himself in the past thirty years.

Cang Wei suddenly felt incredibly sad. No matter how deep the grudges of the previous life ran, those people were all dead. As for the painful experiences of his childhood, no matter how painful, they were in the past. Even if he took revenge, those memories would still remain. Yet, he had paid a heavy price for the grudges of his past life and the pain of his childhood. Was he being too foolish?

He lowered his head, silently gazing at the person in his arms. In the darkness, he could clearly see her peaceful sleeping face. Her long eyelashes curled beneath her closed eyes. He slowly raised his arm, his lips kissing her forehead. "If only I could say I regret it now, would it be too late?" "No, I've already regretted it, but you said the past is the past, and we can never go back." "But what if I wanted to go back to the past?"

About five minutes later, the person tidying upstairs came down to report. "Boss, the bed is made up."

"Hmm." Cang Wei carried Ling Ruoke up the stairs. The room was indeed ready, with a comfortable bed made up. The blankets still smelled of soap, a pleasant fragrance.

Cang Wei bent down and gently placed the person in his arms on the bed. As soon as she touched the bed, she frowned and whimpered softly, then relaxed and murmured again. Before long, she fell into a deep sleep again.

Cang Wei pulled the thin blanket up and covered her with it. He waved for the people waiting outside to leave. "Have the doctor hurry up."

Because of the exertion, her clothes were filthy, and the sweat had dried and clung to her body. Huo Qingfeng threw back the covers and reached out to pick her up for a bath. His hand froze in mid-air, and he ultimately withdrew it, deciding to wait for that person to arrive.

Standing silently by the bedside, I don't know how much time passed, then I heard the sound of cars coming from downstairs. He was back. Cang Weiwo composed herself and waited silently.

After a while, the doctor came into the room and examined Ling Ruoke. "The injuries on her body are all superficial, nothing serious. However, she was injected with JRSR (don't take it too seriously), so it will take at least three days to recover. And the later it goes, the more uncomfortable she will feel, it will be quite unbearable. She will still feel weak in her hands and feet during these three days and needs to rest well. As for the effects of the aphrodisiac, they have been suppressed. If it still flares up at night, just wipe her down with cold water to cool her down."

"Hmm." Cang Wei's brows finally relaxed. "She's terribly dirty, could you please give her a bath and change her into clean clothes?"

"Damn it, I've become a nanny, not a doctor anymore!" he cursed, but still shooed Cang Weiwo out, resignedly giving the person on the bed a quick wash and changing her into clean clothes. What could he do? She owed him her life!

Feeling refreshed, Ling Ruoke drank the medicine and had it applied to her wounds. She felt much better, and her brows relaxed. She didn't utter a sound all night, sleeping soundly in a daze.

Cang Wei stood by the bed for a long time before turning around and leaving the room. He lit a cigarette in front of the French windows in the living room. Slowly exhaling, he felt a little better from the agonizing discomfort.

He stood by the window for almost the entire long night. Cigarette butts lay scattered haphazardly on the floor, silently telling a story.

As dawn broke, Cang Wei, leaning against the sofa, took a short nap. Perhaps he was truly exhausted, for he actually fell asleep.

...

In the middle of the night, a junior police officer found a man with a woman who appeared to be injured at a farmhouse.

Huo Qingfeng rushed over upon hearing the news, only to find it wasn't Cang Weiwo or his wife at all! The car was the exact same model. What a clever substitution!

"Damn it!" he couldn't help but curse again. Cang Wei, you bastard!

After a whole night of searching, it was already dawn, and we still hadn't found anything.

Huo Qingfeng squatted to the side smoking, his brows furrowed with countless black lines, looking particularly frightening. Cigarette butts were scattered all over the ground beside him.

"How about I have someone wipe out the Fengyun Gang and see where Cang Weiwo can hide then!" Xuan Yuanqi squatted down beside him, also at a loss.

Huo Qingfeng glanced at him and said coldly, "Come on, that guy is just like me, a foolish ruler who loves beauty more than his country! Even if you wipe out the Fengyun Gang, he won't hand over the people. But go ahead and wipe them out, I'll be happy."

"Pfft!" Xuan Yuanqi spat out his drink. Why did he feel like this guy was his ancestor?

"I'm not going to waste my breath on you. I'm going to keep looking for a wife." Huo Qingfeng stood up, about to get into his Hummer to continue his search, but he couldn't leave.

The person who came was from the Public Security Bureau. They said he was suspected of a case and asked him to come back to assist in the investigation. But their tone wasn't that of an investigator; it sounded more like Qiaoqiao informing him. "Guzheng is in trouble; she's at the Public Security Bureau."

"Damn it! Someone got into trouble in the police station, and you're asking me for them?" Huo Qingfeng cursed. He wasn't afraid of being laughed at for saying the police station was just a decoration! But as soon as the words left his mouth, he suddenly understood.

The man lowered his voice and said, "Our deputy director said he was helping to find someone last night, and the police force in the bureau is short-handed, so... please help us investigate the case."

Huo Qingfeng wanted to curse or beat people up but couldn't, so he drove his Hummer to the police station.

Gu Zheng died; she committed suicide. Before her death, she was gang-raped by several men. Beside her body, there was a large line of words written in blood: Huo Qingfeng, I hate you!

In his comrade's office, Huo Qingfeng frowned and smoked incessantly, his breath rising like a chimney. He hated Gu Zheng's recklessness and cruelty, but he never intended for her to die. He uttered harsh words, but he didn't truly want to torture Gu Zheng in such a despicable way. He just hadn't expected someone to take advantage of that.

Guo Liang, like him, smoked fiercely. A pair of eyes stared at him, no one knew what they were thinking.

Huo Qingfeng glared at Guo Liang, who was dressed in a police uniform. "Why are you looking at me like that? You don't really think I sent someone to do *that* to her, do you?"

Guo Liang was also troubled, and shook his head upon hearing this. "I believe you would beat someone to death, but I wouldn't believe you would let a woman be abused like this." After all, they were comrades-in-arms for many years, and he knew Huo Qingfeng quite well.

"That's more like it." Huo Qingfeng elbowed him. Hearing his comrade say that made him feel a little better.

Guo Liang exhaled a puff of smoke and said, "But this person seems intent on framing you. You'd better be careful." He was clearly targeting him by bringing up one of his harsh words. However, the man didn't seem to have anticipated that his plan would backfire. Since Gu Zheng's suicide occurred within the police station, the investigation couldn't proceed further; it had too many implications.

Huo Qingfeng pondered for a moment, then frowned and said, "Old Guo, secretly investigate for me. I want to know who did it." Most importantly, he wanted to find out if the other party's existence was a landmine that had already been planted.

"I'll try my best." It's important to understand that some things cannot be investigated.

The forensic examination confirmed that Gu Zheng died by suicide. As for the gang rape, since the person was already dead and no one came forward to speak up for Gu Zheng, the matter was simply dropped. She was gang raped inside the police station; how could the investigation continue? Such a huge loophole was covered up silently by everyone working together.

This is the reality of society.

...

Ling Ruoke felt incredibly tired, her hands and feet seemingly pinned down by something, unable to move. She felt a dull, weak ache, and instinctively called out Huo Qingfeng's name, feeling deeply wronged. But no matter how she called, no one heard her. She tried to open her eyes but couldn't. This terrifying feeling made her want to cry.

Cang Wei was startled awake by a faint sound. He jumped up, his eyes quickly scanning his surroundings, but found nothing amiss. He then listened intently and heard the sound coming from inside the room. Startled, he rushed inside. "Ruo Ke!"

The person on the bed shifted restlessly, making crying sounds, and tears actually streamed down their face.

Cang Weiwo pulled her into a tight embrace and lifted her upper body. "Ruo Ke, what's wrong? Ruo Ke, wake up?"

But Ling Ruoke seemed to have fallen into some other world; she could hear sounds, but couldn't wake up. She could even clearly feel the terror, yet she couldn't move.

"Someone, call the doctor!" Cang Weiwo panicked and shouted towards the door. His roar, like a lion's, quickly woke everyone. A moment later, the doctor appeared.

"What's wrong?" The doctor asked, yawning as he carried his precious medicine box, clearly still half asleep.

Cang Wei put the person in his arms down. "She's crying, she seems to be in a lot of pain, you should check on her quickly!" He consciously stepped aside so she could examine her, afraid that any delay would cause the person on the bed to suffer more.

The female doctor immediately regained her senses and began a thorough examination. Finally, looking at Cang Yuiga, she said, "This is a side effect of the JRSR injection; your muscles are sore and uncomfortable."

"Isn't there a solution? Can't we make her feel a little better?" Cang Weiwo asked anxiously.

The female doctor covered her mouth and yawned again. "Sure, give her a massage to relax her hands and feet, she'll feel better. It's the same method as when our legs hurt from walking too much." As she spoke, she yawned repeatedly and walked out.

Cang Wei immediately sat back down on the edge of the bed, lifted the blanket around her lower body, and began to knead her legs with controlled pressure. Feeling that was enough, she moved to her arms. This worked; although the person on the bed hadn't woken up yet, she had stopped crying. Tears still lingered at the corners of her eyes, making her look pitiful.

Cang Wei sighed inwardly and reached out to wipe away the moisture from the corner of her eyes.

Tired! Feeling terrible!

The two words kept popping into Ling Ruoke's mind; they were her only feeling at that moment. Her brows were tightly furrowed, and she subconsciously moved her body, trying to wake up and see why she felt so uncomfortable.

After struggling for a while, Ling Ruoke finally opened her eyes slowly. Her gaze was hazy, and she was not yet fully awake.

Cang Wei, who was sitting by the window taking a nap, heard a sound and suddenly opened her eyes. She saw that the person on the bed was already awake, and a feeling of joy washed over her. "Ruo Ke, you're awake!"

Ling Ruoke slowly turned her gaze, staring blankly at the magnified face before her. She seemed not to recognize him, staring intently at him. Or perhaps she was still dazed and confused.

"Is it alright?" Cang Wei asked in a low voice, afraid of startling her. Could that medicine still affect her memory? A glimmer of hope flashed through her mind. If...

Ling Ruoke blinked, finally recognizing the person in front of her. "Cang Weiwo? What are you doing here?" She slowly turned her gaze, realizing she didn't recognize the place. "Where is this?"

The flame in Cang Wei's heart was extinguished instantly, as if a bucket of water had been poured over her head. A look of sadness rose in her eyes. Instead of answering her question, he asked about her health. "How are you feeling?"

Ling Ruoke felt her throat was dry and hoarse, her body was limp, and she had no strength in her hands and feet. What was wrong with her? After a while, she remembered that she had been kidnapped by Guzheng. "I don't know how to say it, I feel limp and weak, and I feel really uncomfortable. Could you give me some water? My throat is so dry."

"Okay." The kettle was already placed beside him. He poured a glass of water, scooped it up with a spoon, blew on it to cool it down, and then brought it to her lips.

Although Ling Ruoke felt uneasy, she was in so much pain that she couldn't care less. She opened her mouth and took the water in. The liquid seeped into her parched throat, and the discomfort immediately lessened.

Cang Wei fed her spoonful by spoonful until she finished the glass of water. "Do you want more?" He didn't want this warm feeling to disappear.

Ling Ruoke smacked her lips. "I'd like some more." Her throat felt like a desert that hadn't seen a drop of rain in ages; this glass of water didn't even moisten it.

I fed her another half cup of water, and she finally felt that was enough.

"Thank you." Ling Ruoke smiled at him, her smile weak because of her limp body. She turned her head, squinted slightly, and looked at the greenery outside the window.

Looking at her smile, Cang Wei suddenly wondered, if he didn't remember everything from the past, would she have remained so close to him? Would he have been able to possess her warm smile for a lifetime?

“This place…” Ling Ruoke was stunned to find that this place was so similar to the place where Gu Zheng had kidnapped her. She turned her head sharply and stared at Cang Weiwo with wide eyes. “Cang Weiwo, did you save me?”

Or is he in cahoots with Gu Zheng? No way. If Cang Weiwo were in cahoots with Gu Zheng, he wouldn't let her treat him like this. Ling Ruoke still believed him on this point.

The look in her eyes was fleeting, but Cang Weiwo saw it clearly. He felt as if a dull knife was tearing at his heart. He couldn't help but smile bitterly. "Ruo Ke, am I really that worthless in your eyes?"

If I make a mistake, will I never be able to convince her that I genuinely want to be good to her again? Does she remember the past so vividly? Is it only by erasing everything from her mind that she can possibly face her own existence?

Countless question marks flashed through Cang Weiwo's mind, conveying a startling signal.

"I...I didn't mean that. I just find it a bit strange that this place seems to be the same place Guzheng brought me after kidnapping me." Seeing the pain on his face, Ling Ruoke also felt that she was being a bit unfair.

Cang Weiwo composed herself and smiled. "This is the same place. Haven't you heard that the most dangerous place is the safest place?"

Ling Ruoke looked at him, and after a while asked again, "Did you save me?"

She never expected that it would be Cang Weiwo who saved her. She remembered the drug taking effect and those people making advances on her. Suddenly, another group of people came and started fighting with those people, and then she was knocked unconscious.

Cang Wei hummed in agreement, not wanting to say more about it. He didn't want to tell her that Huo Qingfeng had risked his life to save her. "You just woke up, so rest well and don't rush to ask these questions. The doctor said you were injected with JRSR, and you'll feel weak all over for the next three days. You need to rest well."

Just as Ling Ruoke was about to speak, a gurgling sound suddenly rang out. She immediately lowered her head in embarrassment, her face quickly turning red.

Cang Wei chuckled softly, her laughter pleasant. "You rest here for a while. I'll go ask the doctor if there are any dietary restrictions, and then I'll bring you some food."

"Mmm," Ling Ruoke responded, only daring to raise her head after he left. This wasn't surprising; since being kidnapped by Guzheng yesterday noon, she hadn't eaten a single grain of rice. If it were a child, they would have fainted from hunger long ago.
