Chapter 176 The Fate of the Guzheng (Part 2)

The room fell silent, and Ling Ruoke was somewhat stunned. Was the military exercise over? Did Qingfeng know she had been kidnapped? If he did, would he withdraw from the exercise to rescue her? But if he withdrew, he wouldn't be a qualified commander; would that affect his future? If he didn't withdraw, she felt like he didn't care about her enough…

Ling Ruoke was conflicted, ultimately unable to decide whether she wanted him to rescue her or to continue holding out until the exercise ended. Perhaps this was the dilemma of marrying a soldier, especially a special forces soldier. A wife's needs and the country's needs often conflicted, yet for him, the country's needs were paramount!

The more Ling Ruoke thought about it, the more confused she felt.

"Here, have some lean meat porridge." Cang Weiwo appeared at the door with the food, startling Ling Ruoke out of her daze.

"Thank you." Ling Ruoke nodded, trying to reach out and take the porridge. But as soon as she moved, she realized that she couldn't even reach out her hand, let alone catch the bowl of porridge.

Cang Weiwo looked at her dejected expression and smiled slightly. "Come on, I'll feed you. Don't worry, you'll be better in three days. By then, even if you beg me to feed you, I won't want to."

Are there any women?

"No." Cang Weiwo denied it decisively, then scooped up a spoonful of porridge and brought it to her lips.

Ling Ruoke thought for a moment, but there was nothing she could do, so she had to open her mouth and eat. She was so hungry that her stomach was practically sticking to her back, and she didn't have the energy to be coy.

"How does it taste? Is it salty enough?" Cang Wei looked at her expression, trying to judge whether the porridge was delicious.

Ling Ruoke nodded and hummed in agreement. Actually, the dryness and discomfort in her throat hadn't subsided, and the porridge tasted bland. It was like waking up with a high fever and finding everything tasteless, like eating sawdust.

I finished the bowl of porridge quietly, and my stomach was no longer empty.

"Want more?" Cang Weiwei was pleased to see that her brows had relaxed a bit.

Ling Ruoke shook her head. She wasn't actually full, but the tasteless feeling was unbearable, and she felt nauseous. "Thank you."

"Don't be so polite with me!" Cang Weiwo put down his bowl and sighed inwardly. This "thank you" reminded him once again of the chasm between them.

Ling Ruoke smiled but didn't say anything more. Her whole body felt limp; even leaning against something like this was uncomfortable, her neck felt like it was about to give way to her head. She wanted to ask something more, but her eyelids felt heavier and heavier. Before long, her head tilted to the side and she fell asleep.

Cang Wei stood up, helped her lie down slowly, and covered her with the blanket. He stood quietly by the bed for a while before turning and leaving.

Downstairs, the female doctor was sitting lazily in a chair, drinking porridge and enjoying the mountain scenery.

Cang Wei stood quietly beside her. After a long while, he slowly spoke. "If you were to erase someone's memories using hypnosis, would it be possible? Would there be any danger?"

The female doctor paused in scooping porridge, glanced at him, and quickly resumed drinking her porridge as if nothing had happened. "It's possible, but only temporarily. She'll remember as long as there's something to guide her. There's definitely danger; anything done with force will have risks and aftereffects. Brother, life isn't a TV drama or novel; nothing is omnipotent."

The implication is that you should give up as soon as possible.

Cang Wei didn't answer, and remained silent for a long time. Then he walked out, and I don't know where he went.

The female doctor watched his retreating figure and shook her head helplessly. He truly reaped what he sowed!

Erasing memories through hypnosis is possible, but no one can guarantee when they'll resurface. Even if they were truly erased forever, would that change anything? Fool!

Ling Ruoke slept until the afternoon, waking up from hunger and the urge to pee. She hadn't eaten for over a day, and the little bit of porridge wouldn't last long. Her physical needs were urgent. However, when she woke up, the room was empty.

She lay quietly for a while, then bent her arms to try and prop herself up against the headboard, only to find that even such a movement was incredibly difficult for her. It was as if all her strength had been drained away, and her limbs were completely useless.

To get a better grip, she bit her lip tightly and struggled for a long time, but she couldn't sit up and ended up biting her lip until it bled.

Ling Ruoke gasped for breath; this limp feeling was awful. Luckily, she could still move, otherwise she would feel paralyzed. After resting for a while, she gritted her teeth and tried again, but with a struggle, her body tilted and she rolled off the bed.

"Ah—" she exclaimed instinctively. Before she could react, she heard hurried footsteps.

"Ruo Ke!" Cang Weiwo rushed in and pulled her into his arms, asking anxiously, "Ruo Ke, what's wrong? Are you in pain? Did you hurt yourself?"

Ling Ruoke shook her head weakly. "It's nothing, I just wanted to sit up and accidentally rolled down."

Cang Weiwo was relieved and put her back on the bed, placing a pillow behind her back. "Why didn't you call for help? What if you had landed on your head first?" Perhaps he was frightened, his tone was fierce.

Ling Ruoke stammered an apology. She thought to herself, "I didn't mean it, did they have to be so harsh?"

"Why are you in such a hurry to sit up? Is there something you want to do?" Cang Wei saw that she was unhappy and knew that she had been too fierce, so she quickly softened her tone.

Ling Ruoke blushed immediately. She could tell him she was hungry, but what about needing to use the restroom? He'd told her there were no women here! "I need to use the restroom, could you find a woman to come?"

Cang Wei paused for a moment, then turned and left. "Wait a minute."

A moment later, Ling Ruoke saw a woman, a familiar face. It was the female doctor who had been scolded by her most often during her time at the Yuntian Villa.

"Big or small?" the female doctor asked bluntly, without any pretense. But then again, she showed no reaction even when looking at someone's genitals, let alone when she was in a physiological need.

Ling Ruoke felt quite awkward. Although they were both women with the same physical structure, she still couldn't get used to it. "Sir, thank you for your trouble."

The urinal was a standard toilet, which was convenient. But her body was so weak that even taking off her pants was a problem. She couldn't even sit up and needed help to sit up. After she finished relieving herself and had her pants pulled up with help, Ling Ruoke's face turned as red as a ripe tomato.

The female doctor immediately picked her up and carried her out, saying, "Nice skin. Fair and rosy, no wonder men are so infatuated with you."

Ling Ruoke felt too embarrassed to refute her, so she simply nodded and said thank you.

"Rest well, eat well, and you'll recover faster if you eat and sleep well." After saying that, she disappeared in a flash.

Cang Weiwo walked in, carrying food in her hands. This time it was rice and dishes, not porridge. I don't know whose cooking it was, but it emitted an enticing aroma.

Ling Ruoke subconsciously took a breath, her expression as cute as a child longing for the milk powder in her mother's hand.

Cang Wei didn't laugh, but couldn't help but curl the corners of her lips into a smile. "You've been sleeping for half the day, you must be starving?"

Ling Ruoke stared at him blankly, almost thinking they were back in the early days of their passionate romance. Back then, he was just like that—cool and aloof in front of others, but like a mother hen, showering her with care and concern…

"What's wrong?" Cang Weiwo raised her hand and touched her face. "Is there something on my face? I don't think so."

Ling Ruoke then came to her senses and looked away. "No."

"Come and eat, these are all your favorite dishes." Cang Wei sat down on the edge of the bed, put the dishes on the table, and held a rice bowl in his hand.

"Could you...could you let that female doctor feed me?" She didn't want Cang Wei to feed her, nor did she want to trouble that female doctor. The thought of herself being like a useless person made her angry.

Cang Weiwo looked at her with his dark eyes and raised an eyebrow slightly. "Can you what? Can you eat by yourself? Sure, if you can hold chopsticks or a spoon." As he spoke, he handed her a spoon.

Ling Ruoke was furious and glared at him fiercely.

Cang Wei chuckled softly, scooped some vegetables onto the rice, and then mixed them together and brought them to her mouth.

Ling Ruoke stared at the food in the spoon for a while, then opened her mouth to eat. She then turned her gaze to the window, lost in thought as she chewed. She only opened her mouth to eat when Cang Weiwo brought the spoon to her lips.

Perhaps because she was starving, Ling Ruoke ate a full bowl and a half, and also ate most of the vegetables. Her stomach felt warm and full, and she felt very good.

Thinking about the problem she had been pondering during dinner, Ling Ruoke called out to Cang Weiwo, "Can I make a phone call? I want to call them to let them know I'm safe. They must be very worried about me being kidnapped."

This was a request, but also a test.

Cang Wei looked at her for a while before saying, "Take good care of yourself, we'll talk about it when you're better." Then he turned to leave.

"Cang Weiwo!" Ling Ruoke shouted. "Are you planning to imprison me again?"

Cang Wei stopped on the stairs. The word "again" struck his heart like a hammer blow. He slowly closed his eyes, but ultimately did not answer, and moved downstairs. Perhaps in her eyes, he was being treacherous and unscrupulous, but no one knew or cared about the bitterness in his heart.

Cang Wei did not stop downstairs, but went straight out the gate and finally disappeared into the woods.

Ling Ruoke leaned against the headboard, stunned, unsure whether to grieve for being imprisoned again or to pity the man. She knew that Cang Weiwo genuinely wanted to be good to her, truly wanted to return to the past, and cherish her once more. In truth, her relationship with Cang Weiwo wasn't all suffering. Once, she too had been his precious treasure.

She knew that all the blame wasn't solely on Cang Weiwo; it was more a cruel twist of fate. His approach to her wasn't initially motivated by revenge; it was simply a matter of chance that he had seen something he shouldn't have.

However, despite the pity, their relationship was ultimately over. He simply didn't understand this. Or perhaps he was feigning ignorance, because he wanted to go back to the way things were.

Ling Ruoke sighed, her mind in turmoil.

"You two had a fight?" A gloating voice rang out. The female doctor leaned against the door frame, her long legs stretched out and crossed at an angle, her mischievous expression irritating.

Ling Ruo had no intention of indulging her wicked hobby, so she stared blankly at a certain spot without answering.

The female doctor seemed unconcerned, perhaps she was already used to it. She leaned lazily against the door, her eyes lingering on a spot outside the window. "I've been with him for many years, and apart from you, he's never been this subservient to any woman. At first, I really hated you. You turned a wolf into a sheep. Although he's still a wolf when he needs to be ruthless, it's still incredibly unpleasant! What's even more unpleasant is that after turning him into this mess, you just walked away, leaving him to suffer with all of us. Tell me, aren't you despicable?"

"What exactly are you trying to say?" Ling Ruoke finally turned her gaze to her, but her expression didn't change much. She didn't owe Cang Weiwo anything; she pitied him only because they had once loved each other and because he wasn't actually that bad, so she hoped he could be happy.

The female doctor raised an eyebrow. "I mean, can't you forgive him? There are plenty of people in this world who have wronged others, and they can forgive others, so why can't you?"

“I forgave him a long time ago.” Ling Ruoke looked straight at her and answered without the slightest hesitation. “I just don’t love him anymore.”

After a while, the female doctor nodded. "When you're in love, you're completely worthless, but when you're not in love, you're incredibly valuable, but that's still not true love. Damn, what is love anyway!"

Ling Ruoke ignored her mutterings, turned back, and slowly closed her eyes.

Love is always selfish, and sometimes even cruel. But what can we do? Can't we stay together forever, one love for life, from the very first meeting?

Perhaps, in the end, it all comes down to the cruel twist of fate. When they decided to be together, they meant to spend their lives together. Neither of them were fickle people; if it weren't for those so-called grudges, they would certainly have remained faithful for life.

Forget it, there's no point in thinking about it now.

Ling Ruoke slowly opened her eyes and looked at the woods outside the window. She remembered that day when she went to the army base, Huo Qingfeng led her through the dense forest to reach the camp. To enter the special forces' territory, she would have to walk for two or three hours; vehicles couldn't drive in.

Has the military exercise ended? Does he know? He must be frantic with worry! He always gets impulsive when it comes to her; I don't know what he might do...

My thoughts drifted away, my mind filled with that person, unable to hold onto anything else.

...

Just as Ling Ruoke had suspected, Huo Qingfeng was indeed extremely anxious. Fortunately, he knew that Cang Weiwo wouldn't harm Ruoke, otherwise he would have gone mad.

After searching all day, they had searched all the possible hiding places for Cang Weiwo, but still found nothing. The two people they found at the farmhouse were only there to obey orders; as for where their leader was, they knew nothing.

Unfortunately, Guzheng died, and the police station kept bothering him with a bunch of trivial matters, making him want to punch people. He wanted to punch anyone he saw!

"I can't just disappear into thin air, can I? He even brought his sister-in-law with him, how did he manage to hide so quickly?" Xuan Yuanqi was also troubled. He hadn't slept for two days and one night since Huo Qingfeng caught him, his eyes were as dry as a desert. Looking at the person beside him, his brows were furrowed like ropes. Apart from a slightly red eye, he was incredibly energetic. Damn, even special forces aren't human!

Huo Qingfeng glanced at him coldly. He couldn't find a wife, so he found fault with everyone.

Suddenly, Huo Qingfeng stood up abruptly. "Damn it, I was tricked by Cang Wei!"

"What do you mean?" Xuan Yuanqi stood up, completely bewildered. He was genuinely feeling quite tired. He rubbed his temples, thinking, "Could I take a nap first? What a terrible friend I've made!"

"The most dangerous place is the safest place." With that, he jumped into the car, kicked up a puff of cigarette ash, and disappeared.

Xuanyuan Qi frowned, then understood. That's right, they had searched everywhere, but forgotten the most primitive place.

As expected, concern leads to confusion, damn it!
