"If so, who is this?" Tang Yue was greatly surprised when he saw the tall, strong, and cold-looking man.
Before Ruoke could speak, Huo Qingfeng put his arm around her waist and said coolly, "Huo Qingfeng. Ruoke is my wife."
Ling Ruoke blushed immediately, still not used to this person's domineering and direct manner.
"Hello, I'm Tang Yue." A flicker of sadness crossed his eyes. Had his words truly come true? Was he destined to never have a chance with Ruo Ke?
Huo Qingfeng originally intended to ignore the olive branch extended by the other party, but after being glared at by Ruo Ke, he reluctantly shook it.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was somewhat awkward. Mainly because Huo Qingfeng was extremely jealous, acting aloof and refusing to talk to anyone, and even threatening to corner people.
"Tang Yue, I'm so sorry, I promised you but then went back on my word." She disliked breaking her promises.
Tang Yue smiled, a bitter smile on his face. He had thought that if he got a divorce, perhaps he would have a chance with her over time, but he never expected that it would be nipped in the bud.
“It’s okay. I think you’re definitely more suited to be a teacher, and you’ll definitely be a good teacher.”
“That’s right. If he were to become a pastry chef, he should be doing the elegant work of teaching and nurturing people. What a waste of his potential.” Colonel Huo fully displayed his petty nature.
"Qingfeng!" Ling Ruo pinched him hard. He had gone too far today! She should have known better than to ask him to come along.
"Tang Yue, I'm sorry, please ignore him." She said, giving him a glare.
Huo Qingfeng was glared at by his wife, and with a sour face, he turned his head to the side. Under the table, however, he didn't forget to grab his wife's hand to try and appease her.
Tang Yue smiled wryly, shook his head, and stood up. "It's alright. I still have some things to take care of at the shop, so I'll be going now. Let's meet again sometime, goodbye."
"No." Huo Qingfeng didn't even glance at the other person, and gestured for them to leave quickly.
Before she could finish speaking, Ruoke pinched her again. Only after Tang Yue had walked away did Ruoke turn around and glare at the man, huffing and puffing. "Huo Qingfeng, don't you think you've gone too far? She didn't do anything to you!"
"He's the one who messed with me!" He could tell at a glance that the man liked his wife!
"What did he do to offend you? I only heard him say nice things, and you made him lose face with every single one of them!" Although I understand he was jealous, you shouldn't embarrass someone like that, right?
Huo Qingfeng stretched out his strong arm and pulled her to his side. "He's lusting after my wife. Do you think he's messed with me? If I gave him a friendly look when he's lusting after my wife, I wouldn't be a man!"
"Pfft!" Ling Ruoke, who was initially angry at him for going too far, couldn't help but laugh after his shout. "Weren't you supposed to be quite calm? Why are you showing your emotions so openly this time?"
"How can that be the same? Losing your life is a small matter, but losing your wife is a big deal!" Colonel Huo said emphatically, with a cool expression on his face.
Ling Ruoke couldn't help but laugh and pinched him. "You think you're so right!"
"That's right!"
...
The next day was Monday, which was also the day Ling Ruoke was to register at Yucai Primary School.
Teachers at Yucai Primary School teach from first grade all the way to sixth grade. Ruoke teaches Chinese and music to Class 2 and is also their homeroom teacher.
On her first day standing on the podium, looking at the 48 young faces below, Ling Ruoke felt very complicated.
In the first lesson, Ling Ruoke mainly focused on getting to know each child, matching their names with their faces. After going around in this way, she also noticed a problem.
The children in Class 2 are generally well-behaved, but there are two exceptions. One is named Lin Zhan, and the other is named Zhuang Yuqi. Both of them lost their mothers at a young age.
The previous teacher said that these two were notorious troublemakers in the class, and they were always the ones who did bad things.
However, the first day went smoothly until the end of the workday. Just as I was about to leave the office, my phone rang. "Hello?"
"Honey, are you off work yet?"
Ling Ruoke smiled, slung her bag over her shoulder, and closed the door. "I'm leaving soon. Have you eaten?"
"Go to the cafeteria now. But I want to eat my wife's cooking! You hurry home and be careful on the way."
Ling Ruoke imagined his expression and couldn't help but laugh even harder. "I'll cook you something delicious when you get back. I'll hang up now and call you when I get home. Bye-bye."
...
Huo Qingfeng hung up the phone, grinning foolishly, and was teased by several team leaders.
He sat down with his rice bowl, about to retaliate, when his phone rang again. "Mom?"
What came through the other end was the little one's sobbing. "Fu'an, why are you crying?"
"Mommy, I want Mommy... Waaah... I want Mommy..." The little guy cried very sadly, his words were breathless and his voice was a little hoarse, obviously he had been crying for more than a while.
Huo Qingfeng frowned. "Fu'an, why don't you give the phone to Grandma so Daddy can talk to her?"
The little one shouted even louder, "I want Mommy, I want Mommy, boohoo..."
Just as Huo Qingfeng was worrying, his mother's voice came from the other end of the line. "Mom, what happened? Why is he crying so hard?"
The little one had looked for his mother before, but had never cried like this before.
"It's all your fault. I told you to find Fu'an a mother sooner rather than later, but you wouldn't listen. Ever since the little guy met that girl last time, he's been obsessed with having a mother. He was making a fuss again just now, and I accidentally said she wasn't his mother, and he started crying like this. I don't know how to comfort him anymore, so you'll have to figure it out!"
The mother was clearly exasperated, and her tone was rather unpleasant. Moreover, her words clearly revealed her complaint that he was unwilling to get married.
Huo Qingfeng ran his fingers through his hair and thought for a moment. “Mom, why don’t you let the little guy come to Z City?”
"Will you pick it up if it's sent to Z City?"
"I'll let Ruoke take care of her. It'll be good for them to get to know each other better." She can drop him off at kindergarten during the day and Ruoke take care of him in the evening. Ruoke should agree, right? But wouldn't that be too tiring for her?
"That's great!" The other person exclaimed excitedly, then fell silent. "Will she agree? You're not even married yet, and you'll suddenly have a son. Won't that...?"
"Mom, don't worry, Ruoke really likes children. I believe she and Fu'an will get along well!"
"That's good! I'll have someone send the little one over right away! That's all for now, I'll talk to you later."
Listening to the busy signal, Huo Qingfeng wondered if the old lady had been planning this all along. Could she have deliberately made the little guy cry for his mother? Thinking about the old lady's personality, the more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed to be true.
After hanging up the phone, Huo Qingfeng was also somewhat troubled. He wondered if Ruo Ke would be willing. Although she was kind and liked children, what girl would be willing to become a stepmother at such a young age? If it were him, he might not be able to accept the fact that Ruo Ke had a child either.
But my mother has already taken action; I don't want things to get stuck in a difficult situation later.
Before the call connected, Huo Qingfeng felt uneasy.
