Chapter 29 Mommy, Mommy, I'm here!

"Hello? I just got to my doorstep and you called." Ruoke was panting on the other end.

"That shows we're on the same wavelength. Are you starving?" Being a teacher seems tiring enough, let alone taking care of a child. Could you possibly manage? The little guy is at his most mischievous age, and taking care of him is like watching over a calf. These are the words of his mother.

"It's alright, I bought something to eat on the way. What about you, have you finished eating?" Ling Ruoke pushed open the door, kicked off her shoes, and threw herself onto the sofa.

"I've finished eating. If it's alright, I'd like to discuss something with you."

Ling Ruoke was taken aback by his serious tone. "What is it? You're being so cautious."

"I want to bring the little guy over so he can live with you. Is that okay?" I waited anxiously for a response, but all I got was a busy signal.

Hearing the busy tone, Huo Qingfeng thought to himself: Oh no! Ruoke is angry!

When I dialed again, the call was disconnected before it even connected. When I dialed again, the phone was switched off.

Huo Qingfeng clutched his phone, feeling uneasy.

After a while, Ruoke called back. "Honey, don't be angry! If you don't like it, I won't let him come over!"

"My phone died. I'm not angry, I really like the little one. But I'm worried I won't be able to take good care of him, I've never taken care of a child before."

Since he said that Fu'an wasn't evidence of his betrayal, there was nothing to worry about. Besides, she would eventually have to adapt to the fact that their life would include Fu'an. Moreover, he wasn't home often, and having the little one around would make him less lonely. She was just worried that she might not handle things well, which would draw complaints from his mother and affect their relationship.

Huo Qingfeng's worries vanished instantly. He knew it! His wife was the best girl in the world. "No way. I believe you can be a great mother, and the little guy will definitely love you! So, honey, am I really bringing him over?"

Ling Ruoke was silent for a moment, thinking that she needed to quickly prepare a room for the child and some children's supplies. "Okay. If I... if I don't take good care of the child, your parents—"

"Don't worry, I'm here!"

Ling Ruoke stopped talking and focused on how to decorate the children's room and what things to buy.

That evening, Ling Ruoke started researching online, seeing how others decorated their homes and what items they needed to buy. She found a small notebook and wrote everything down. Items that could be bought online were ordered online. The rest she planned to buy in person the next day at noon and in the evening.

...

Because she didn't know when the little one would arrive and was afraid there wouldn't be enough time, Ling Ruoke finished decorating the room in just two days. Luckily, there was no need for a complete renovation, otherwise, she didn't know when it would have been finished. She also bought some toys, all of which are for developing intelligence.

On Thursday evening, Ling Ruoke said goodbye to her colleagues and headed towards the school gate. Along the way, she overheard some boarding teachers discussing who was a very handsome and cool man at the gate and wondering who he was picking up.

Ling Ruoke smiled, not caring much. When she arrived at the school gate, she saw the Hummer in the distance, the tall figure leaning against the door, and the little one beside him, and her face immediately lit up with a smile.

"Mommy!" The little guy was even more excited than Huo Qingfeng. After a loud and powerful shout, he rushed towards Ruoke like a cannonball.

She could bend down to catch him, but because of the force of his movement, they almost both fell to the ground. The air was filled with the scent of milk. Thinking back to their previous encounter where they mistook each other, she thought, "This really is fate!"

Huo Qingfeng leaned against the car door, watching the two people, one big and one small, walk closer hand in hand, listening to the little one calling "Mommy, Mommy" incessantly, and suddenly felt that life couldn't be happier than this.

"Daddy, it really is Mommy!" Little Fu'an exclaimed excitedly. His dad had said he'd take him to find Mommy, and he'd thought it was a lie, but it really was Mommy!

Huo Qingfeng was about to pat Ruo Ke's head with a smile when he suddenly realized something was wrong. He turned sharply to Ruo Ke, somewhat incredulous. "The girl he mistook last time, was it you?"

Ling Ruoke looked at him, winked mischievously, but smiled without saying a word.

Huo Qingfeng slapped his head, a little too excited. He squatted down and ruffled the little guy's hair. "So, the little guy really can find his mother by himself!"

The little guy's eyes crinkled with joy as he chuckled. He clung tightly to Ruoke's fingers, refusing to let go. So, Ruoke had no choice but to hold him in her arms and sit in the back seat.

After passing the supermarket, Ling Ruoke asked Huo Qingfeng to stop the car so she could buy groceries. She had stayed up late decorating the room last night and hadn't gotten up early to buy groceries this morning.

"Mommy, Mommy, I want to eat this..." The little one stood in the shopping cart, pointing here and there with his little finger. In every sentence, there was at least one "Mommy," as if making up for all the years he had missed.

Colonel Huo pushed the cart, watching the interaction between the mother and son. Even a cold-hearted man like him felt his heart soften like cotton.

Back home, after putting her things down, Ling Ruoke took the little guy to see his room. As she opened the door, she felt a little uneasy, afraid that he wouldn't like it.

Ling Ruoke pressed the switch, took the little one's hand, and walked into the bedroom. "Look, do you like the room Mommy decorated for you?"

The room has been completely transformed: the curtains are blue with cartoon fish blowing bubbles; the sheets and duvet cover are yellow, with a large Snoopy holding a soccer ball on the duvet cover; the wardrobe is also yellow, with pictures of Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf on the doors; there are Tigger and Winnie the Pooh stickers on the wall above the bed; and toys are scattered on the table…

The little one rushed in with delight, grabbed a toy, and ran back to her, beaming a big smile. "I love it! Thank you, Mommy!"

Then, with his little hands, he tugged at her clothes, making her bend down, and planted a big kiss on her cheek. That wet mark was a testament to his love for the room, and also for his love for his mother.

Ling Ruoke watched as he excitedly rushed to the bedside, kicking off his slippers, and somehow managed to climb onto the bed despite his height. He rolled around on the bed like a little monkey, completely excited.

I thought to myself, if the little one likes it, then it's not for nothing that she used up all her rest time these past two days and stayed up late at night!

Suddenly, a pair of strong arms wrapped around Ruoke's waist. A burning kiss landed on her cheek. "Wife, thank you!"

It took Huo Qingfeng a while to stop himself from getting emotional and choking up like a young intellectual sent to the countryside. He never imagined that while he was still worrying about whether she could really accept the little one, she had already done so much.

She's never been a mother, yet the arrangement of this room reflects so much of a mother's love. In just two short days, she created this room. Every single item she chose embodies a deep affection.

"Wife, you are so good!" These words come from the deepest part of his heart. They are the most sincere praise from a man who has walked through gunfire for a woman.

Ruoke is truly the most beautiful woman in the world!
