Chapter 10. The important thing is, what's next is your brain...

Wen Chu walked to an empty workstation in the corner, plugged in the charger, put on her headphones, and pretended to play on her phone.

The employees spoke much quieter, chatting casually, but Wen Chu listened intently for a while and still managed to glean quite a bit of information.

For example, there is an official project that requires the development of an intelligent emotional chip. A tender document has been issued, and several large technology companies are competing for it, preparing their own core technologies for bidding.

The group also mentioned the Wen family, but his father didn't say whether he wanted to participate or not. However, it was certain that the other party had no intention of competing for the technology that Lu Ming needed.

But if his family ultimately decides to bid, things will get complicated. She had intended to help Lu Ming, but she's known for being fiercely protective of her own, and she couldn't bring herself to betray her own people and help her competitor.

Because she was there, everyone didn't chat for long, and the conversation gradually shifted back to casual banter and technical discussions. One of them complained, "Hey? Damn, another bug! I've been deploying this for almost a day!"

He had barely finished speaking when a middle-aged man with a lot of white hair walked in, wiping his sweat and looking extremely unwell. He shouted, "Everyone, put down what you're holding! We're working overtime tonight, so stay for a meeting!"

"Damn it, I knew it..."

"Damn, tonight's dinner party is ruined again..."

Mutterings arose. Wen Chu glanced at her phone, which had only reached 20% completion, and was somewhat speechless. Why did it end so soon after she left?

After yelling, the man paused for a moment when he saw Wen Chu, completely unprepared for her presence. His expression changed almost instantly, and he put on a smile, saying, "Ms. Wen? What are you doing here? I'm Yang Binshi, the technical director of the technical department. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Wen Chu shook her head: "Ah, no, my phone just died, I came to charge it. Are you guys done with the meeting?"

Yang Binshi quickly replied, "That's right, it just dispersed!"

"Then I won't disturb your work any longer, I'll be going now." Wen Chuchao smiled and nodded.

"Alright, alright, take care!"

Before leaving, Wen Chu glanced at the error message on the screen of the tech guy she had just complained about and said, "The library you're using has been updated. The vector dimension has changed. You just need to modify the corresponding configuration file."

He left after saying that.

The tech department employees were left looking at each other in bewilderment. One of the tech guys quickly checked the latest technical manual on the official website: "Damn, it really has been changed. But how did she know? This document was just updated yesterday, I didn't even look at it."

Another girl shrugged in surprise: "I don't know. Wasn't Miss Wen, who's pursuing our CEO, supposed to be a love-struck pretty face? She actually knows this?"

"She just glanced at it and immediately recognized the error message. I was completely baffled by it. How could she do that without several years of work experience?"

Yang Binshi had already been criticized in the meeting for his team's lack of solid skills, and he was about to retort when he suddenly became furious, as if his accusations had been confirmed: "You still have the nerve to say that! How incompetent are you! All those high salaries you've been wasted! You can't even compare to that pampered young lady who never lifts a finger! Get yourselves into the meeting room and reflect on your actions! Stop listening to those unreliable gossips!"

Wen Chu glanced at the elevator; the number above her head indicated the first floor.

The meeting ended shortly after she left. Why is this guy staying so late? Is he trying to avoid her? After all this gossip, is the crisis everyone's talking about really her?

She was speechless. When she chased after him downstairs, Lu Ming's black SUV had just driven away. Wen Chu didn't even smell the exhaust fumes from his car.

...

Wen Chu took a deep breath, telling herself not to get angry. Why get angry at an NPC who has no feelings? That's her level, her mission, her key to going home!

Luo Wen had just seen his boss off when he turned around and saw Wen Chu coming out of the elevator. He couldn't help but feel a little guilty and flustered.

Wen Chu simply walked to his side and asked calmly, "You're gone?"

"hold head high……"

"Okay." Go after them.

She turned to leave, but was interrupted by Luo Wen.

"Miss Wen."

"Um?"

Luo Wen hesitated for a moment, but still kindly reminded him, "The boss... is in a bad mood today. I advise you not to go to him at this time... lest you get caught in the crossfire."

After all, the boss is known for his sharp tongue and coldness; when he's in a bad mood, he can say the most cutting and sarcastic things.

Wen Chu raised an eyebrow: "Is there a problem with the company?"

Luo Wen looked troubled: "Well, that's part of the reason, but there are others as well."

Wen Chu: "Tell me about it. Here, have this." She placed the mousse she hadn't given away in front of her.

Luo Wen waved his hands frantically, "No, no, no, I don't need it." How could he dare to eat that!

But he really sympathized with Wen Chu's love story. If it were him, being pursued by a girl as warm, generous and sunny as Miss Wen, he would have agreed without hesitation and cherished her. Only his boss could remain unmoved.

After much internal struggle, Luo Wen decided to risk being killed by his boss and revealed the information: "The boss spoke with Miss Wen Xue on the phone today. It seems there are problems in their relationship. The chairman's 60th birthday banquet is the night after tomorrow, and the chairman asked the boss to bring a female companion or girlfriend. However, Miss Wen Xue doesn't seem to have any plans to return to China anytime soon, and the discussion failed, so..."

Holy crap! Great news from the sky! Lu Ming really is also in love but can't have the one he wants, hahaha.

Heaven is helping her!

What could be more impactful than a scene where a devoted male lead is at his most vulnerable after a heartbreak, and someone comes to his aid in his time of need?

With a 20% approval rating, she's here!

Wen Chu tried hard to suppress her expression and put on a very sympathetic look: "Really? That's really sad. My sister is like that. She puts her career first in everything. My parents also said that she doesn't plan to go back to China anytime soon. You should also persuade your boss to let go of his obsession and see the people around him who truly care about him."

“Uh…” Luo Wen twitched the corner of his mouth, almost forgetting what he was going to say.

I thought that the boss was heartbroken over another woman—that woman was Miss Wen, and that he even avoided seeing her because he was in a bad mood—which would make the girl in front of me disheartened, or at the very least angry and disappointed. But how come I saw a raging fire in his eyes?

Wow...what dazzling willpower! What touching sincerity!

He hoped his boss would open his eyes; apart from lacking ambition, Miss Wen Chu was perfect in every way!

He chuckled awkwardly and said, "I... I'll pass it on to the boss."

"Thanks, I'll treat you to dinner another day. I'm leaving now, bye!" Wen Chu patted his shoulder, stuffed the cake into his arms, and turned to leave.

Luo Wen carefully took the cake from his arms, staring blankly at the woman's retreating figure: "Goodbye... Miss Wen."

Wen Chu drove at breakneck speed, the wind rushing past her ears making her head even clearer. This was progressing much faster than she had imagined. Yesterday she was praying that Wen Xue wouldn't show up and that their relationship would quickly run into problems, and today problems really were arising.

Her mouth is blessed!

Looks like I'll have to keep making predictions, just in case they come true.

The system's cheat code told her that Lu Ming had gone home. Wen Chu had assumed he would go to a bar to drown his sorrows or something.

She returned to her apartment complex, where a black SUV was already parked in the yard. She got out of the car and went straight to the other person's house, knocking on the door.

No one answered, so she knocked again.

After waiting for a while, Aunt Sun's voice came from the security camera at the door: "Is this Miss Wen? I'm sorry, the young master doesn't want to see any guests today. You should go back."

Wen Chu made up a reason: "Auntie, I left something inside this morning, and I need to go in and look for it."

"Please wait a moment."

After a moment of silence, Wen Chu guessed that the other party had probably gone to ask Lu Ming for his opinion.

About three minutes later, Aunt Sun's voice came again: "Did you leave something behind? Let me look for it for you?"

Wen Chu sighed. The other person was in a bad mood and wouldn't be so easy to talk to, so this approach wouldn't work. She could only say, "Never mind, you go ahead and do your work."

"Okay, okay."

Wen Chu stood at the door with her hands on her hips, making a phone call. It rang for a long time until it automatically disconnected without anyone answering. She called back, and this went on for several times, with the other party hanging up on her faster and faster each time.

In the end, Lu Ming simply turned off his phone.

Wen Chu lowered her head, put one hand on her hip, and said speechlessly, "Damn, I feel like a simp."

She was renowned throughout her life; when had she ever suffered such humiliation from a man?

She let out a long sigh, patted her chest, and said to herself, "Don't get angry, don't get angry. It's normal for the game to be a little difficult. I need to stay calm and patient."

After she finished comforting herself, her phone ran out of battery and shut down.

I'd better go home and charge my phone first.

After confirming several times that there was no movement at the door, Aunt Sun went to Lu Ming's door and knocked, saying worriedly, "Young Master, Miss Wen has really left."

Inside, the man casually tossed his expensive suit on the floor and slumped down on the carpet next to the sofa, with a half-empty wine bottle beside him.

He lowered his head, looking at the liquid gently swirling in his glass, and said softly, "I understand."

Wen Chu anxiously charged her phone for an hour, racking her brains for a solution, but it felt like a dead end. If Lu Ming refused to come out, she couldn't just tear down his door.

It was almost 9 p.m., and there hadn't been much progress today. Wen Chu quickly unplugged the charging cable, drove to a nearby store to buy a strawberry cake, and headed straight for Lu Ming's house.

She knocked on the door again, thinking that if the other person really didn't want to see her, she could at least give him the cake in her hand to try and win him over.

Soon, Aunt Sun's voice came from inside the house again, "Miss Wen? Is there anything else?"

Wen Chu said softly, "Auntie, I bought dessert for Lu Ming. Could you please give it to him for me? I won't go in."

Aunt Sun looked with a troubled expression at Lu Ming, who had just come downstairs and was taking wine from the wine cabinet.

Lu Ming had obviously heard him; he closed the glass door and glanced at the main entrance. Uh...

After Wen Chu finished speaking, she waited for a while, but no one answered. Wen Chu called out again, "Auntie, are you there?"

She was peeking furtively through the doorway when it suddenly opened.

Wen Chu quickly stood up straight and smiled, "Thank you for your help."

"You really are persistent." Lu Ming looked at her, holding the doorknob.

The strong smell of alcohol made Wen Chu frown, and she was even more surprised that it was him who opened the door, and even more surprised by the man's "disheveled appearance".

Lu Ming was still wearing the same blue shirt he wore at the meeting, but it was no longer as formal and neat as it had been. The shirt was now wrinkled, and the sleeves were casually rolled up. More importantly, the top two buttons were undone, revealing glimpses of the man's chest muscles and giving the otherwise restrained and business-like shirt a seductive deep-V look.

Wen Chu coughed awkwardly, embarrassed by the thoughts that were hard to articulate in her mind. She looked up at the man and smiled, "Knowing you're in a bad mood, how could I ignore you?"

Lu Ming lowered his eyes, his gaze deep and unclear, and his words carried a hint of drunkenness: "How did you know I was in a bad mood?"

Wen Chu: "I have eyes."

System: "Detected that the male protagonist is feeling sad."

?

Can the emotional turmoil caused by Wen Xue be attributed to her? That's too kind of her.

What do you call that! Heaven rewards those who persevere; persistence pays off! After all, there was no way she could make Lu Ming feel sad based on her words alone.

Wen Chu handed him the cake, saying, "Eating something sweet will make you feel better. Did you eat lunch this afternoon? Drinking so much alcohol is bad for your stomach."

Lu Ming glanced at the things she handed him, but didn't take them. He simply asked, "Aren't you curious why I'm in a bad mood?"

The man's tone had lost its usual arrogance, and his expression was no longer so cold and sharp. He seemed slow and depressed, as if he was truly heartbroken.

Wen Chu was very open-minded: "If you want to tell me, you will. If you don't want to tell me, do you think I can crawl into your head to see?"

Lu Ming scoffed, "All I can think about right now is Wen Xue. Even so, do you still want to come in?"

Wen Chu's eyelids twitched slightly. Which sentence did she say about going in? It was clearly you who wanted me to go in, wasn't it?

She smiled and said gently, "It doesn't matter who you were thinking about just now. What matters is who you'll be thinking about next."

Lu Ming's eyes seemed to tremble slightly.
