Chapter 11 The person you hate needs to start coaxing you...
Lu Ming's gaze refocused. He lowered his head, slowly reached out, and took the cake from her hands. After a moment of silence, he whispered, "Thank you."
This ice cube can actually say thank you?? That's progress, that's progress.
Wen Chu smiled at him, "You—"
Lu Ming: "You..."
They spoke almost simultaneously.
Wen Chu stopped and waited for him to speak.
Lu Ming pursed his lips, but ultimately didn't say what he wanted to say. He simply bowed slightly, a movement so subtle that most people wouldn't even notice.
But Wen Chu still keenly sensed the other person's wavering. Taking advantage of the moment when the person was hesitant and not quite clear-headed after drinking too much, she quickly squeezed into the other person's house and said, "Drinking alone is no fun. I'll drink with you."
Lu Ming stubbornly replied, "No need, get out."
Wen Chu took a few more steps inside before turning around, revealing a victor's pose, and flashing him a peace sign: "But I'm already inside."
Aunt Sun went to the inner room to busy herself again, and smiled with relief when she saw Wen Chu in the distance.
"Wen Chu, you're really annoying." Lu Ming frowned, his expression was similar to usual, but it was completely devoid of his usual aggression. His eyes were red, and he had a strong sense of brokenness. His words sounded more like he was begging for sympathy.
Wen Chu's heart softened a bit at the sight. Originally, she was just doing a mission, but now she felt a bit more genuine. The young Lu Ming's good looks were incredibly attractive, even making someone as stubborn as her waver.
She glanced at the rum on the table, understood immediately, and smiled slightly: "Now the person you hate is going to start trying to make you happy."
Wen Chu peeked inside and asked, "Auntie, do you have a shaker for mixing drinks? And lemon slices too?"
Aunt Sun quickly replied, "Yes, yes, we have everything! Miss, would you like to mix a drink?"
"right!"
Aunt Sun's face lit up with joy: "That's a great coincidence! Young Master likes to mix his own drinks when he has nothing to do, and he has all the necessary tools! Let me get them for you."
"This is troublesome."
Wen Chu had to admit that the system was incredibly comprehensive; it had even copied Lu Ming's love for bartending.
She turned to look at Lu Ming, who was still standing there, and said, "I'll borrow some of your raw materials."
Lu Ming asked, puzzled, "What are you going to do?"
"Didn't you want to drink? I'll make you something special." Wen Chu said, already opening the refrigerator and looking for ingredients. She took out a lemon and some soda water, then went to the liquor cabinet and carefully selected a few drinks.
Lu Ming's gaze followed Wen Chu as she slowly moved: "You can mix drinks too?"
"Of course. How about that, were you amazed by me?"
Lu Ming scoffed, "It's not like you can just randomly mix together various alcohols and add some soda water to call it cocktails."
"You'll find out soon enough whether you can drink it or not," Wen Chu said, then, because she couldn't hold it all in her hands, she beckoned to someone, "Come on, don't just stand there, come and help me out."
Lu Ming hesitated for a moment, then walked over woodenly. Wen Chu carefully placed the wine she had chosen into his hand and gently instructed, "Hold it well, don't break it."
Lu Ming frowned again: "Wen Chu, I'm not mentally challenged."
"Oh, I know."
"..."
"Here, put it in the kitchen."
Lu Ming disliked being ordered around, but he still followed the person into the kitchen and placed it in the spot Wen Chu had specified.
Wen Chu praised him, "Thank you so much~ Now you can go out and eat your strawberry ice cream cake."
"If you keep treating me like a three-year-old, I'm leaving."
"I didn't. How could I dare?" Wen Chu teased, swirling the wine in her hand, then took out a corkscrew to open the bottle, ready to dig in. "Stop bothering me, I'm about to get started."
Lu Ming stopped talking and didn't go out. He just leaned against the wall, crossed his arms, and silently watched her work.
Wen Chu also focused, muttering to herself, "10 ml of rum... multiplied by the volume is... oh well, I might as well just pour it all in, 3 drops of lime juice multiplied by the volume... two lemon slices... and what was the other one again... Oh no, I can't remember." She patted her head, trying hard to recall the recipe from before, and scaled it up proportionally.
Soft strands of hair from her temples fell onto her cheeks, then she casually tucked them behind her ears.
Lu Ming remained silent, silently taking in every unintentional little movement of the woman in front of him.
System: "Detected an increase in the male lead's affection for the host."
? ? ?
!!
Wen Chu immediately glanced excitedly at Lu Ming, but the man subtly shifted his gaze to the ground.
What did she do? She didn't do anything.
They didn't even say a word.
Wen Chu was confused. The wine wasn't even ready yet, so how could her favorability rating have increased?
In her excitement, she remembered the recipe she had just forgotten and muttered, "Oh right, I also need to add a little sugar, he likes sweets. And brandy too."
Half an hour later.
"All done!" She clapped her hands, then cautiously poured herself a small glass and took a sip. Finding it tasted just like she remembered, she confidently turned to Lu Ming and beckoned him over, "Come on, have a taste!"
Lu Ming stared at the rather pretty, bubbly, orange-blue cocktail, his expression a mixture of contemplation and hesitation.
Wen Chu narrowed her eyes: "What's with that look? Would I ever harm you?"
"It's hard to say."
Wen Chu rolled her eyes at him, then turned to Aunt Sun with a smile and asked, "Do you usually drink alcohol, Auntie? This isn't very strong, it's about the same as fruit wine. It's refreshing to drink it ice-cold in the summer. You've been busy all day, why don't you have some and try it?"
"This, this isn't appropriate..." Aunt Sun waved her hands repeatedly, glancing at Lu Ming with a somewhat flattered expression.
"What's wrong with that? He didn't get to taste it the first time. I'll make more so that Xiaoyuan and the others can try it too."
After Wen Chu's repeated insistence, Aunt Sun finally picked up the wine glass and took a small sip. She said happily, "It's really delicious. I've never tasted wine like this before. It's sweet and sour."
“Of course, it’s my secret recipe, no one else knows it.” Wen Chu said, glancing sideways at Lu Ming.
Lu Ming finally moved forward a few steps, but remained silent with an air of arrogance, seemingly waiting for her to pour him some.
Wen Chu offered him a way out, poured him a glass and was about to hand it to him when Lu Ming raised his hand to take it, but Wen Chu suddenly moved it away.
Lu Ming looked up at her with displeasure, his mouth moved but he didn't say anything. Then he saw the girl put down the cup and reach her hand towards him.
Perhaps because he had been drinking, Lu Ming didn't react as quickly as usual, so he didn't dodge in time, but his heart tightened.
Wen Chu buttoned up his shirt one button at a time.
Isn't being improperly dressed tempting? What kind of behavior is this?
Seeing the atmosphere between the two, Aunt Sun was quite sensible. She took the wine that Wen Chu had poured into the small wine pot and said, "I, I'll take this to Xiao Yuan and the others to drink."
"Ah, okay."
Lu Ming watched with his head down as the other person buttoned up his shirt before he realized what was happening and slapped her hand away. "Did I give you permission to touch me?"
"What, are you so precious that you have to pay to be touched? You should pay more attention to your appearance; you have a lot of family members at home."
Lu Ming was embarrassed and annoyed: "You..."
"Stop with the 'you, you, you'. Instead of drinking those bitter and spicy spirits, why not have a sweet cocktail?" Wen Chu handed him the glass again.
Lu Ming glared at her before taking the bag and taking a bite. His Adam's apple bobbed, and a look of surprise and complexity flashed across his eyes.
Wen Chu tilted her head and looked at him, her big, bright eyes filled with a plea for praise: "How is it? Isn't it delicious?"
Lu Ming stared at the orange liquid gently swirling in the glass, lost in thought, yet he couldn't resist teasing her: "You're quite confident."
Wen Chu raised her chin: "Of course, confidence shines."
After all, you taught me this recipe.
Three years ago, her father's unexpected death left her depressed for a long time. Every year on the anniversary of his death, she was in a terrible state. After switching jobs to Baiyue, she made a rare mistake at work. To relieve her depression, Wen Chu went to a bar near the company to drink. That's when she met Lu Ming.
To comfort her and encourage her to get back on her feet and continue being his money-printing machine, he condescended to become a bartender and mixed her a drink that turned out to be surprisingly delicious. Later, he even told her the recipe.
In the days that followed, Wen Chu would try making it a few times when she was in a bad mood. At first, the taste was terrible. She got so angry that she didn't care about superiors or subordinates anymore. She sent a text message to ask why the same recipe tasted completely different when she made it. She wondered if there were any hidden ingredients.
The wrongly accused Lu Ming once again condescended to take her to a bar and demonstrated it to her again.
Over time, she remembered most of it.
Later, Wen Chu learned that he also owned that bar.
That explains why the bartender at the front desk is so good-natured.
She never imagined that the things Lu Ming used to make her happy would one day be used in return to appease Lu Ming.
"Who taught you that?" Lu Ming looked at the beautiful wine, paused, and repeated, "Who taught you to do that?"
Wen Chu didn't notice anything amiss, and simply patted her chest, saying, "I'm self-taught; I figured out this unique recipe all by myself."
Lu Ming seemed to find it hard to believe, but in the end he didn't say anything. He just lowered his eyes, looked at the liquid in the wine glass, his eyelashes trembled slightly, and silently took another sip.
Wen Chu could tell that the other person liked to drink, so she smiled smugly, picked up the wine glass and wine pot, and said, "Let's go upstairs!"
Why do we need to go upstairs?
“We can’t just stand here in the kitchen like idiots and enjoy my masterpiece.” Wen Chu didn’t give him a chance to refuse. She grabbed the man’s sleeve and pulled him out of the kitchen.
After getting drunk, Lu Ming became much easier to talk to. After being obediently pulled along for a few steps, he realized that it was inappropriate, withdrew his hand, and said, "I can walk by myself."
Wen Chu reminded him again, "Take the cake, it'll melt if you don't eat it soon!"
