Chapter 24 You're ugly
When Wen Chu returned from the restroom, Lu Ming had already taken the wine and returned to his seat.
Despite the argument, she still trusted the other party's caution and believed they would ensure the safety of the refilled wine, so the rest of the time went relatively smoothly.
As the banquet drew to a close, the guests prepared to leave, and those who had drunk too much returned to their rooms on the second or third floor to rest.
Wen Chu also stood up, waiting for her father and Chairman Qi to finish their pleasantries before leaving. She held her breath, checking on Lu Ming every now and then, and found him perfectly fine.
This... should be considered a completed mission, right?
After entertaining the other guests, Lu Mingxiao warmly approached them: "Chairman Wen, Chairman Qi, did you enjoy the food today? Is there anything you're not satisfied with?"
Chairman Qi had drunk a bit too much: "Very good, very good, what are you saying? You are the star of the show today, why do you need to ask us how we feel! We are all here to wish you a happy birthday! We should be asking you if you are satisfied."
"Well, with you all here, what more could I ask for? I, Lu, am already honored!"
Wen Shiyang smiled and said, "Didn't you say before the meal that you were going to bring out your treasured rice wine for us to try? How come we haven't seen a single drop?"
Lu Mingxiao: "Hey! I didn't forget, I didn't forget! I was just about to say something to you, Haoxuan, hurry up and bring it over!"
Lu Haoxuan finally seized the opportunity to show off, and called the waiter to bring up a bottle of wine that looked expensive. He then poured wine for everyone present into glasses.
Qi Siyan glanced at the bottle and exclaimed, "This wine has been discontinued long ago because the winery owner passed away. It's extremely rare to find a bottle. Uncle Lu, you've gone to great lengths."
"Not at all, not at all. Your presence is a great honor for me, Mr. Lu. I am very happy today!"
When Wen Chu heard that they had to drink more, her heart skipped a beat, but she quickly calmed down. The Lu family relied on Lu Ming to support them; even tigers don't eat their cubs, so there shouldn't be any major problems.
"Miss Wen, please enjoy your drink." Lu Haoxuan smiled and handed her a glass of wine that was filled to the brim.
"Oh, thank you." Wen Chu hadn't drunk much good wine before, so she picked it up and smelled it with a bit of curiosity. But then she turned to look at Lu Ming, who had also taken a glass from Lu Haoxuan's hand. As if he had caught her gaze, he glanced at her as well.
Wen Chu immediately winked at him, as if to confirm: Surely the wine served by your own brother should be fine, right?
There was only one bottle, but there were about ten people present, so Lu Haoxuan had calculated the amount to be poured, one cup for each person, no more.
Before Lu Ming could respond, Lu Mingxiao called on him: "Lu Ming, quickly toast your Uncle Wen and Uncle Qi again, so they can take better care of you in the business world in the future."
Lu Ming glanced down at the slightly rippling liquid in his wine glass and pursed his lips.
Just as he was about to make a move, he heard Wen Chu cry out in pain.
Everyone then looked at her.
Wen Chu glanced at the loosened straps behind her, placed her wine glass on the table, and naturally walked to Lu Ming, who was closer to her. The two exchanged glances in a very short time.
She turned around shyly, revealing her beautiful back to the man. "Do you know how to tie a bow? Could you help me tie the ribbon?"
Lu Ming lowered his eyes and said modestly, "It probably won't look very good."
"It's alright. Thank you!"
Wen Shiyang and his wife glanced at their daughter, instantly understanding each other's thoughts. They smiled helplessly and then turned back to chat with Lu Mingxiao.
Lu Ming placed the wine glass on the table, picked up the bandage, and whispered in her ear as he tied it, "What do you want to do?"
Everyone was facing away from the table while talking, except for Wen Chu, who was facing the table. She quickly and discreetly picked up Lu Ming's cup and held it in her hands.
“You drink mine,” she said.
"You don't need to be so kind. My dad would never hurt me. Put him back."
"No, just in case."
"That's unnecessary. I don't want to owe you a favor."
"Don't worry, I'm not stupid, I won't drink it."
Lu Ming retied the straps and then distanced himself from the person. Wen Chu glanced behind her and said with a smile, "It's beautiful, thank you!"
He hesitated for a moment, looking at the wine glass that Wen Chu had replaced, but still picked it up.
Lu Ming couldn't think of any reason why Lu Mingxiao would harm him; the only possible culprit was Lu Haoxuan. He glanced at his older brother, who was standing in the corner grinning, lost in thought, yet also a little angry at Wen Chu's presumptuous actions.
He complied with Lu Mingxiao's request, raised his glass, and said to the two elders, "I am still young and inexperienced, and I hope Uncle Wen and Uncle Qi will take good care of me."
Wen Shiyang had drunk quite a bit tonight, and his mood was even better because of his daughter's performance and everyone's praise, so he said a lot: "These days, one company dominating is no longer suitable. The pie is too big, and we all need to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. We can't overeat if we share it. I also hope that our industry can have a better future. Young people should work hard when it's time to work hard."
Chairman Qi agreed, "That makes sense! Let's do it together!"
Everyone raised their glasses and drank, except for Wen Chu, who stood to the side watching without touching a drop. Seeing this, Lu Haoxuan approached and asked, "Miss Wen, don't you like it? Why aren't you drinking?"
"I'm really sorry, my stomach seems to be a little upset today, and I can't stand the smell of alcohol. I don't want to spoil everyone's fun..." Wen Chu smiled apologetically.
Mrs. Wen became anxious upon hearing this: "What's wrong? Is your stomach upset?"
Wen Chu quickly reassured her, "It's okay, Mom. Maybe we ate a little too much at the dinner table today."
"Okay, but we can't ignore any health problems, no matter how small. You should get checked out. If not, I'll arrange a check-up for you tomorrow."
“Okay…” Wen Chu gave a dry laugh, a hint of helplessness in her eyes, and exchanged a glance with Lu Ming, who happened to be looking over.
The other person seemed afraid that she would drink the wine.
Wen Chu turned to Lu Haoxuan and tentatively said, "Brother Lu, it's a waste to pour this wine away. I haven't touched it at all. Why don't you drink it?"
"Oh, then I'm in luck." Lu Haoxuan's face remained unchanged as he took the drink and downed it in one gulp.
Wen Chuxin thought to herself, "I'm sorry, brother. I really can't find anyone else to handle this unknown situation, so I have no choice but to let you, the insider, deal with it. If something goes wrong after I drink the wine I served, it's my own fault, and no one else can harm me."
"It is indeed a rare gem, a fine wine," Wen Shiyang exclaimed. "Chairman Lu, you've been very kind. Well then, that's about enough for today, we should be going now."
Wen Chu felt increasingly uneasy as she waited for the mission to end without hearing the notification sound. Logically, she had taken all the necessary precautions, so why hadn't it said the mission was complete yet?
Seeing this, Qi Siyan leaned forward and waved her phone at Wen Chu: "Wen Chu?"
"Oh." Wen Chu took her phone out of Mrs. Wen's bag. "Shall I add you?"
"No need for all that trouble." Qi Siyan grinned and pointed his phone at Wen Chu's. Soon, ripples appeared on both screens, displaying each other's contact information. "That's fine."
Wen Chu nodded, but felt a cold gaze shooting from behind, sending a chill down her spine.
She turned her head to look, but the culprit had left no trace.
Mrs. Wen smiled and said, "You two are about the same age, so you can definitely keep in touch more often; you'll have a lot to talk about. Shall we go now?"
With her mission unfinished, Wen Chu thought for a moment and decided she couldn't leave. She could only persuade her parents, "Mom and Dad, why don't we stay here tonight? It'll be too late to go back, and my stomach isn't feeling well, so I don't want to take another bus ride. Besides, Uncle Lu's hotel is known for being very comfortable; I've never stayed there before. Shall we stay here tonight? Dad's had a bit too much to drink."
Lu Haoxuan chimed in, "Yes, this liquor is strong and has a powerful aftereffect. Uncle Wen and Uncle Qi both drank quite a bit tonight. Why don't they go upstairs to take a shower and get some rest to feel more comfortable?"
Mrs. Wen hesitated for a moment, then glanced at Lu Ming, roughly understanding her daughter's plan—she wanted to spend more time with Lu Ming. She looked at her husband, and seeing that he hadn't directly refused, she made up her mind: "Alright...then we'll stay here tonight. If you still feel unwell later, be sure to tell me, understand?"
Upon hearing this, Qi Siyan smiled and tugged at his mother's sleeve, "Mom, shall we stay here tonight too?"
Mrs. Qi nodded: "That's fine too."
Lu Mingxiao was very happy: "Don't worry, I've had Lu Ming and Haoxuan stay here tonight. If you need anything, just ask them! Lu Ming, quickly arrange rooms for everyone to rest! Afterwards, go buy some medicine for Xiao Chu and take it over!"
Lu Ming nodded: "Okay."
"Don't worry, Dad, my third brother is very reliable. He won't let us down at all," Lu Haoxuan said with a smile.
Wen Chu secretly breathed a sigh of relief and politely thanked him, "Thank you for your trouble, Uncle Lu."
"I'll go get the room keys for everyone, please wait a moment," Lu Ming said as he walked towards the lobby.
Wen Chu quickly followed, saying, "I'll go with you."
Once out of everyone's sight, Wen Chu finally had some time alone with the two of them. She breathed a sigh of relief and asked, "Don't you feel anything is wrong?"
Lu Ming looked ahead and walked forward: "No. I told you you have paranoia."
Wen Chu hesitated for a moment, but her mind was still filled with doubts. She joked to ease her anxiety, "Uncle Lu seems to like me quite a bit? He knows I like you, right?"
"Whether he knows or not is none of your business, I just don't like you."
Wen Chu clicked her tongue, wondering what had gotten into this guy again: "Can't you even have a conversation?"
"Won't."
Lu Ming took two room cards from the front desk and handed them to her. Wen Chu glanced at the room number and was very dissatisfied: "Why are they all so far away from you? Change me to one that's closer."
"What difference does it make if I'm close to you?"
"You're sleeping soundly. If anything happens to you, I can get there quickly."
"Contradictory." Lu Ming ignored her unreasonable request and walked back.
"Are you really not going to give me a different one? You'll regret it." Wen Chu followed along, chattering away.
Lu Ming initially intended to give the person an impatient sidelong glance and look away, but after that glance, he involuntarily paused and lingered on the other person's face for several seconds.
Lu Ming frowned slightly, a hint of confusion on his face.
He suddenly thought Wen Chu looked much prettier.
Objectively speaking, he had previously admitted that the woman was beautiful, but he had never felt anything extra about her. However, at this moment, her beauty inexplicably stirred his heart.
Every tiny expression of the person in front of him was magnified infinitely in his eyes, becoming vivid and impossible to ignore, making him unwilling to look away.
Even now, seeing her looking at him with such a blank expression, gave him a strange feeling.
Her cheeks were very white and looked soft, her mouth was small and also looked soft... even her earlobes with pendants looked adorable...
A strange thought suddenly popped into his mind—the person following him was a woman, a beautiful, innocent woman who liked him.
They are born with gender differences, distinct boundaries, yet under the laws of nature, they are destined to be together, destined to be closer than same-sex couples, destined to be attracted to each other and have impulses.
Feeling the cryptic gaze from the great demon, Wen Chu touched her face and asked warily, "Why are you looking at me like that? If you won't change it, you won't change it. There's no need to be so murderous, is there?"
Lu Ming's Adam's apple bobbed. He composed himself, hastily averted his gaze, and said, concealing his true feelings, "You're ugly."
Why the sudden personal attack?!
Lu Ming's breathing became heavier, not wanting to hear anyone nagging in his ear anymore: "Take Uncle Wen and Aunt Yang upstairs. I have things to do. If you need anything, call the front desk. Don't look for me."
"Is this your service attitude? I'll only hire you!"
Lu Ming looked at her stomach: "You don't really have a stomachache, do you? I won't buy you any medicine."
Wen Chu chuckled and asked again to confirm, "Are you really alright?"
"I already said no. Go to sleep, stop thinking about things you don't understand. You don't need to worry about me." Lu Ming said and strode away.
