Chapter 25 Mission Failure

Chapter 25 Mission Failure

Wen Chu glanced at him, then gave one of the room cards to Wen Shiyang and Yang Lan. After settling them in, she stood in the corridor looking around, but didn't see Lu Ming. She wondered where he had gone.

She had no choice but to return to her room, pacing back and forth. "This is strange. Why hasn't the system responded yet? What's going on?"

Unable to come up with a solution, she decided to take a shower first.

She took off her heavy jewelry; after a day of maintaining a poise, her feet, legs, and whole body ached.

Just as she finished filling the tub and lay down in the luxurious bathtub, ready to enjoy a nice hot bath, the system's voice suddenly rang in her mind: "Side quest failed! Side quest three has now been refreshed—help the male lead recover from the effects of the drug before dawn."

Wen Chu's heart skipped a beat. Something had happened to Lu Ming?!

Damn it!

She didn't hear what the system said next; her mind was filled with the words "mission failed."

She quickly jumped out of the bathtub, not bothering to dry herself, and put on her bathrobe, tying it tightly in a knot. Wearing slippers, she grabbed her room key and rushed out of the room, running towards the other side of the corridor.

She arrived at Lu Ming's door, knocked gently, and said in an anxious tone, "Lu Ming! Lu Ming, are you in there? What's wrong?" There were quite a few guests on the second floor, so Wen Chu only dared to ask in a low voice, but after knocking for a long time, there was no response.

Has she fainted?!

She checked herself and realized she hadn't taken her phone in her haste. She rushed back to her room to call someone. If no one answered, she'd have to call an ambulance or the police immediately!

With all these strict precautions, how could something still happen? Could there have been something wrong with her drink?

The system didn't say she would be harmed too!

As soon as she opened the door, she found the room was lit. Before she could even wonder what was going on, she saw a man lying on the bed, covering his face with his hands, looking like he was in a very bad state.

"Lu Ming?" Wen Chu was dumbfounded. How did this person get in?

Lu Ming was clearly caught off guard. Hearing the door open, he immediately sat up, bracing himself on the bed, his eyes filled with vigilance: "How did you get in?!"

"This is my room! I was wondering how you got in!" Wen Chu was also completely confused, but she couldn't worry about that now. She quickly asked, "But that's not important! How are you feeling? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"

"Who was running in the hallway just now? I think I heard Chu Chu's voice?"

The sound of a door opening came from next door. Lu Ming's expression hardened, and he was about to speak when Wen Chu swiftly closed the door.

She held her breath and strained her ears to listen to the sounds behind the door. If her parents found out that Lu Ming had entered her room, it would be difficult to explain.

Fortunately, Chairman Wen's voice came through next, "You must have misheard... I'm feeling really dizzy, go to sleep."

Wen Chu breathed a sigh of relief, then looked anxious and quickly went to the bedside to check on the person's condition.

Fifteen minutes ago.

After finishing up the dinner arrangements, Lu Ming went upstairs to his room.

He inserted the room card, and the room lights turned on automatically. Lu Ming frowned subconsciously, sensing that something was amiss, but he couldn't find anything unusual. He thought perhaps he'd been nagged by Wen Chu all night and had caught her neurotic tendencies.

He took off his coat and loosened his tie. He suddenly felt dizzy for a moment and almost lost his balance.

Lu Ming steadied himself against the headboard, rubbed his temples, and his vision cleared again; there was nothing unusual.

He leaned against the headboard, as usual trying to review the guest list for tonight and potential business partners, but his attention began to wander after only seeing the fifth name, and he inexplicably thought of Wen Chu's appearance tonight.

Every smile, every gesture, every movement of the other girl replayed meticulously in his mind. The ruby earrings that swayed gently with the girl's movements were like a rich and fragrant red wine that made him dizzy, and also disrupted the rhythm of his heartbeat.

By the time he came to his senses, his phone screen was already off.

Lu Ming frowned as he realized what he had just been thinking.

What's wrong with me? Why do I keep thinking about her tonight...?

His breathing became more rapid, his Adam's apple bobbed a few times, and a moment of confusion crossed his face.

I could almost hear a strong, rapid thumping sound as I clutched my chest.

Is he... starting to feel something for Wen Chu?

How is that possible! But why is it jumping so fast and I can't stop...?

Lu Ming pursed his lips, closed his eyes, and took several deep breaths, trying to expel the person who shouldn't be there from his mind, but it didn't help at all; in fact, it got worse.

Thoughts became increasingly dangerous and scattered, with images of things that should and shouldn't be thought constantly arising.

He finally realized something was wrong, and just then, a sound came from the bathroom.

He quickly stood up and looked toward the source of the sound. A strange woman, wrapped in a bath towel and with disheveled hair, pushed open the bathroom door and poked her head out.

Lu Ming's pupils suddenly contracted. What happened?

"Excuse me, are you... Mr. Lu?" the girl asked timidly. As she spoke, she came out, barefoot, with a snow-white body, a beautiful face, and a pitiful expression.

As soon as the girl said that, Lu Ming probably already guessed what was going on.

He asked coldly, "Who sent you?"

At this moment, he finally noticed the abnormality in his body.

He doesn't know which part of the process went wrong, but he's now certain that he's been infected.

Everything matched what Wen Chu had said. Lu Ming's questions grew, but he had no time to think about them at the moment.

The girl shook her head, her mouth tightly shut: "I don't know. Do you need me to stay with you for the night?" As she spoke, she tentatively took a few steps towards Lu Ming.

Lu Ming's Adam's apple bobbed, his whole body began to heat up, desire gradually surged and spread, and fine sweat slowly seeped from his forehead.

He gritted his teeth and took several deep breaths, trying to calm himself down. However, the cold air did not improve his condition at all; instead, it worsened his situation. Like dry sand in the desert, every breath he took away the last bit of moisture in his body, leaving him parched.

"No need." Lu Ming said with a gloomy face, "You stay here today and are not allowed to go anywhere. Leave immediately tomorrow morning when there aren't many people around! I will give you the money, but don't do anything unnecessary. If a third person discovers your existence, I will make you disappear from this city completely, along with your family!"

As he spoke, he opened the room door and walked out. His leather shoes made a dull, slightly impatient sound on the wooden floor. Suppressing the discomfort in his body, Lu Ming hurriedly went to the front desk to get a new room key.

Unbeknownst to him, after he left, the girl quickly went to the bedside and made a phone call, whispering to the person on the other end, "President Lu has gone out. My mission is complete."

Looking at Wen Chu standing before him, Lu Ming finally realized who had tricked him.

His hotel room was always the same, a fact known only to hotel staff.

The person who could so precisely send a strange woman into his room and instruct the hotel receptionist to give him Wen Chu's room key must be someone else entirely.

His heart felt like it had fallen into an ice cave, yet his body felt as if it were being burned by raging fire.

Frustration, embarrassment, anger, and desire intertwined. Lu Ming clenched his hands, then got up, grabbed the feigning woman in front of him, pulled her onto the bed, and choked her.

"You knew my dad and my older brother would do this, didn't you? You spent the whole night making a scene just to clear yourself of suspicion? Did you think that would make me believe you? That this had nothing to do with you?"

"Now you're satisfied? And then what? What do you want now?" Lu Ming looked down at Wen Chu with disdain, his teeth clenched.

He never imagined that his father would do something like this to force him to marry into the Wen family; it was utterly despicable.

He is, after all, his son. How could the other party use such methods to coerce him? What do they take him for?

Wen Chu was stunned and startled by the man's sudden attack.

Her face flushed red from being choked, her hair, damp with steam, clung to her face. She felt like she was suffocating, and could only desperately try to pull his hand away, saying, "What are you saying? I came to help you! You, cough cough! Let go, I'm going to die!"

Lu Ming's vision blurred, and the sight of the woman's wet, partially obscured chest acted as a potent aphrodisiac. He loosened his grip slightly, his reason battling against his primal instincts.

Wen Chu touched his hand, puzzled, then raised her hand to touch his face, frowning as she asked, "Why are you so hot?"

"You..." Wen Chu couldn't help but cough twice more before she could clearly see Lu Ming's current state and expression.

The other person's face was flushed an unnatural red, their eyes were cloudy, their breathing was disordered, and their whole body was burning hot. Their gaze was strange and murky.

Wen Chu only pondered for a moment before realizing what was happening, her eyes widening slightly: "You weren't given... you weren't given an aphrodisiac, were you?"

"Shut up!" Lu Ming was extremely ashamed and indignant about this matter. He tried to calm down and said in an unsteady voice, "If you don't want to die, get out of here."

Oh my god!

How can something so melodramatic yet perfectly reasonable be like this?!

I knew the system was up to no good!

"Okay, okay, goodbye!" Wen Chu quickly pulled her clothes tighter around her neck and ran off without even blinking.

She can call for help if she can't cure poison, and she can call an ambulance if someone faints, but she can't cure this aphrodisiac. The other person will have to take care of it themselves. Her staying would only cause trouble.

Wen Chu hurriedly got out of bed and ran to the door without even putting on her shoes, but when she got there, she heard a click as the door was locked.

The system's voice echoed in his mind: "The door is closed. Since the host has failed two missions in a row, side mission three is forcibly activated: Please help Lu Ming to recover from the effects of the drug and do not leave the room before dawn."

Wen Chu could hardly believe her ears. She tried to pull the door lock, but the door didn't budge.

Damn it! He's been drugged with aphrodisiacs, how do I cure him?! System, what do you mean?!

As a 26-year-old adult woman, a victim who had just been poisoned by Mary Sue melodramatic romance novels, Wen Chu's first reaction was nothing more than to sleep with someone.

But surely she wouldn't risk her life for a mission? That would be too ruthless.

She could never do something so selfless and righteous!

Wen Chu pointed to the doorknob, tears welling up in her eyes, and said, "Um... the door... the door won't open." At that moment, she stood at the door with her thin frame, looking extremely weak and helpless.
