Chapter 5 Conflicts between tribes

Jars of fine wine were brought up, but none of these natives had ever tasted anything like it. Although the natives also brewed their own wine, their brewing technology was far inferior to that of the Song Dynasty.

Although they did not speak the same language, the chief and Zhao Linu chatted happily with each other. Neither of them understood what the other meant, but they had a very interesting conversation.

The crew members continued to carry things from the ship, including porcelain and blue and white porcelain.

The chief's eyes widened because Pan Bufeng sent him a huge porcelain. The chief took it carefully, thinking it was a gift from God.

Who knew that the chief's hand would slip and the porcelain would fall to the ground with a bang and break into pieces.

The natives were stunned. This porcelain was a gift from God, but the chief had actually thrown it away.

Even if you are a chief, you will be punished for insulting him, and you may even lose your position as chief.

Everyone looked at the chief in horror, and the chief's face turned pale. Fortunately, Zhao Li walked over, patted him on the shoulder with a smile, and sent him another one, as there were plenty of them on the boat anyway.

This time the chief laughed again, and it seemed that he was not angry because of his abruptness.

The next day, the chief came again to invite Zhao Li and others to his tribe.

This time, Zhao Li brought pictures of corn and sweet potatoes that Zhao Huan had drawn for him.

Zhao Li took out the painting and showed it to the chief, then began to gesture, meaning that we want to bring these things onto the boat.

Who knew that the chief's face changed after seeing the picture, and he pulled Zhao Libian out of the wooden house.

Zhao Li, Pan Bufeng, and several crew members followed the chief and others into the jungle.

Pushing aside the bushes, you'll see cornfields everywhere, with many natives pulling weeds from the corn.

The corn was almost ripe, and the natives were busy working on it. Zhao Li and the others were stunned.

Then Zhao Li saw the shadow of corn. Yes, it was the same plant described in Zhao Huan's painting.

However, there were some differences. The corn was not as lush and tall as Zhao Huan had described. After all, the sweet potatoes and corn Zhao Huan had seen were improved varieties. The original varieties of corn were not that tall, and the ears were only half the size of what Zhao Huan had described.

But even so, Zhao Li and his men were still extremely surprised, because they found that the land here was very barren, but these plants were growing so lushly in such barren land.

Pan Bufeng and his companions shed tears. They had come here after countless hardships. Countless times, they had almost given up hope. Some even wondered if the emperor was dreaming. How could such a plant possibly exist in the distant Song Dynasty?

Until they saw it for themselves, they realized that this plant really existed. It looked like a super-sized grass, and it turned out to be the legendary corn.

Zhao Li rushed over and fiercely broke off a corn cob. After peeling off the husk, he found golden kernels inside. This thing could really fill your stomach.

Zhao Li came to the chief with a corn cob and said with gestures: "I want this. Let's take it to the boat and then take it to our hometown."

Fortunately, the chief finally understood the sign language and he also made gestures, pretending to break corn. Then he told Zhao Li that he wanted to dry the corn and let them take it away.

Zhao Li was overjoyed. He nodded vigorously and said, "We'll take the corn. Where are the sweet potatoes?"

He gestured the shape of a sweet potato, and the chief immediately understood. This time they were very cautious, as if they were afraid of someone.

The road was difficult to walk on, so after climbing over two mountains, they came to a large plain. This was another tribe, and the difference between them was that they were mainly agricultural.

The sweet potatoes finally appeared, and the vines that were constantly entangled on the ground were sweet potatoes.

Pan Bufeng could no longer bear it, so he jumped onto the land opposite.

The chief and others were shocked, but due to the language barrier they couldn't stop it, it was too late.

Pan Bufeng dug vigorously with both hands and finally dug out a red-skinned sweet potato. It was not as big as the emperor's, but the size of a fist. Pan Bufeng held it in his palm excitedly and looked at it.

Suddenly, a series of strange cries came from the hillside, which frightened even the chief this time. Then they were surrounded again.

This time they were surrounded by another tribe. The men in this tribe all wore animal helmets and looked ferocious. Then someone blew a horn.

Soon, a horn sounded from the foot of the mountain, probably a signal. The Beast Helmets led everyone down the mountain, including the chieftain.

At this time, the foot of the mountain was already filled with people from another tribe. Unlike the chiefs wrapped in animal skins, this tribe actually had clothes.

However, their clothes were thick and clumsy, and the material was far inferior to that of Zhao Li and his men.

They were taken to a square again. Let's call the chief's tribe the corn tribe, and this tribe the sweet potato tribe.

It can be seen that the Corn Tribe and the Sweet Potato Tribe are sworn enemies, because wherever the chief of the Corn Tribe goes, the people of the Sweet Potato Tribe bare their teeth and threaten him.

Then a small platform appeared, with a chair on it. A tall man from the Sweet Potato Tribe sat on the chair, so he must be the chief of the Sweet Potato Tribe.

The chief of the sweet potato tribe looked at the people below, his eyes focused on the corn tribe, and his face had an expression that said, "Your son is in my hands too."

The chief of the Corn Tribe stared with his eyes wide open, yelling incoherently, and then pointed at Zhao Li and the others: "Rus'anhei! Gulaleilu!"

The chief of the sweet potato tribe was startled. It was obvious that the chief of the corn tribe had told him the origins of Zhao Li and others. These people were envoys sent from above.

The chief of the sweet potato tribe was immediately unsure. He looked up and down at Zhao Li, Pan Bufeng and others who had strange appearances and peculiar clothes. The chief of the corn tribe was explaining something to him in a babble.

Then all that could be heard was the frightened whispers of the natives of the Sweet Potato Tribe. It might be that the chief of the Corn Tribe had followed them. These messengers knew how to use thunder and could bring down lightning.

The chief of the Sweet Potato Tribe was skeptical. He mumbled something for a while, but Zhao Li and the others couldn't understand a word he said, so they could only guess that he probably meant that they didn't see it with their own eyes and didn't believe these people would use thunder.

Then the chief of the Yumi tribe walked up to Zhao Li and began to make gestures. After a while, Zhao Li finally understood that the Yumi chief wanted Zhao Li and others to continue to demonstrate the power of thunder.

This really stumped Zhao Li. The red cannon was on the boat. It was several mountains away from here. If the cannon was transported here, there would be no road. After seeing the true appearance of the cannon, these people would probably start to doubt it.
