Chapter 13 Father and Son Secret

Jiao's mother, Sanlang, and the Qiao family father and son watched the mule cart drive away, and all breathed a sigh of relief.

Jiang Shan immediately took out four coins and gave them to the Qiao family father and son, saying it was their wages for the day.

Qiao Shi wanted to decline, but seeing Vice President Jiang's expression that left no room for refusal or discussion, he had no choice but to accept.

When the father and son returned, Jiang Shan packed them a bowl of fresh seafood and several seasonings, telling them to stir-fry it and not to eat too much raw or pickled food.

The Qiao father and son were stopped by the village head before they even got home.

The village head was not one to meddle in other people's business. His son worked as a clerk in the county government, and he himself was a scholar. He always referred to himself as a member of a scholarly family and didn't care much about those mundane family matters.

The village headman glanced at the bowl in Qiao Sheng's hand and asked in a serious tone, "Are you working for the Jiao family?"

Qiao Shi dared not hide anything and told the truth.

"How can a woman like you show her face in public? Besides, Jiao Erlang is a scholar. How can a family of farmers and scholars get involved in business? What kind of behavior is that!"

Qiao Shi didn't understand the profound principles that followed, but he understood the preceding words perfectly.

Without a second thought, he said, "Village head, if Jiang Shan doesn't show his face in public, what will his family eat and drink? Are they counting on Sanlang? Or are they counting on Erlang to come back?"

"You, you...!" The village head glared at Qiao Shi with wide eyes, wanting to say something, but then felt that arguing with a brute would be beneath his dignity.

Thinking back on his intentions, he said in a condescending tone, "That so-called seafood, how much is it worth? Sell me some!"

“…Huh?” Qiao Shi opened his eyes wide, a beat late in the morning.

Qiao Sheng subconsciously hid the bowl in his arms behind his back and quietly moved to stand next to Qiao Shi.
