Chapter 14 The Way of Survival

Seeing Qiao Sheng's actions, the village headman said anxiously, "Young man, I'm asking you to sell some to me, why are you hiding!"

Qiao Shi then realized what was going on and laughed, "The village head is talking about the seafood in broth that Jiang Shan makes, right? Unfortunately, she just gave me a bowl of fresh seafood, which wasn't marinated yet, so I have to wait until it's cooked before I can eat it."

The light in the village head's eyes gradually faded. He gave a soft hum and walked away with his hands behind his back.

Jiangshan agreed with Xianyun Pavilion and Linfu Tower to supply goods on odd and even days, with days ending in ten being rest days.

Manager Qi waited anxiously for half a day before remembering that today was the tenth of the month, the girl's day off.

He slapped his forehead and shook his head, both annoyed and amused.

This is truly an eye-opener! This girl has so many tricks up her sleeve!

He knew that she and Xianyun Pavilion were also doing business. These were the only two equally famous restaurants in town, each with its own background, and they coexisted peacefully despite fair competition.

In fact, this girl could easily disrupt the current balance between the two restaurants if she's not careful, and she can't afford to offend either of them. If she were even a little greedy or focused on profit, things would be very different now.

However, she strangely maintained a balance between the two restaurants, striking a perfect balance.

Manager Qi is truly impressed!

At the same time, less than two miles away from Shopkeeper Qi, the stall set up by Jiang Shan and Jiao Sanlang, a brother and sister, was surrounded by people.

"Don't rush, don't rush, line up one by one, everyone gets a share!" Jiang Shan held two candied hawthorns in his left hand and a spoon in his right, filling a bamboo bowl with seafood sauce.

"Two coins a bowl, two bowls per person, no more!"

"Those who want to buy, please line up! No cutting in line! You there, no cutting in line, do you hear me?" Jiao Sanlang collected money while maintaining order at the scene, his shrill voice making him stand out as he weaved through the crowd.

Soon, the woman who had cut in line was pulled out and pushed to the back.

When it was the woman's turn, there wasn't much left in the bowl. She pointed at the bowl unhappily, poking at it. "How can we eat this? All the big prawns are gone, and all that's left are these small clams and shrimp. Isn't that pathetic? I've already said I'm not short of money, I don't care about eating this kind of stuff!"

The people behind were still waiting, and they were all unhappy to hear that this woman was not only not buying anything but also picking and choosing.

Jiang Shan wasn't annoyed. He smiled and pulled the woman aside, pointing to a spot not far away, saying, "Sister, I can tell you're a connoisseur of fine food! Let me give you a tip. The two restaurants up ahead both have seafood in a special sauce, big and fresh, though a bit pricey! But if the waiters at the restaurants also warm up a pot of wine for you, tsk tsk, the taste is so good, even a god wouldn't want to be there!"

The woman's eyes lit up, and she grabbed her skirt and ran towards the restaurant without even having time to catch her.

The remaining seafood in gravy sold out quickly, but the siblings weren't in a hurry to leave. They sat there, each enjoying a candied hawthorn.

When someone came to ask again, Jiang Shan said, "The next time I set up my stall, it will be on the 20th. I only set up my stall on the 10th. You can go to Xianyun Pavilion and Linfu Restaurant to take a look. They are a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for. I guarantee you won't lose out!"

Another half hour passed before the siblings finally packed up their stall.

I bought some things in town and then leisurely made my way home.

Aunt Hong stood not far away with a complicated expression. Only after the brother and sister walked away hand in hand did she glare fiercely at the shop assistant next to her.

The waiter said that Jiangshan was selling seafood at low prices in town, which was stealing business from the restaurant, so he filed a complaint with Manager Hong.

Manager Hong was already dissatisfied with Jiang Shan's behavior of carrying two loads on one shoulder, so upon hearing this, he sent his sister to find out what was going on.

Seeing this outcome, Aunt Hong was deeply moved.

The young girl was doing business honestly, selling seafood that the restaurant had left over. The prices were cheap and fair, and she didn't forget to promote the restaurant's seafood with gravy. What integrity!

They wronged me by judging others with their petty minds; I am ashamed!

Thinking of this, she turned back to the restaurant, told her brother everything, and then took the waiters to the town to purchase some cloth and rice, which she then delivered to Huaigu Village.

Jiangshan and his sister had just arrived home when Aunt Hong arrived in her car.

"Hehe, Aunt Hong, did you miss me? I'm off today, but I'll miss you tomorrow!"

Aunt Hong was furious when she saw Jiang Shan laughing and joking. She was clearly a young girl, how could she be so shameless?

"Stop with the smooth talk! This isn't a deposit, it's a thank you for the recipes for those cold dishes. What are you waiting for? Move everything in!"

At Aunt Hong's command, the two workers unloaded everything from the mule cart and carried it into the house.

Jiang Shan's expression changed slightly. "Aunt Hong, what are you doing?"

Aunt Hong ignored him, walked up to Jiao's mother, gave an awkward bow, and said woodenly, "Miss Jiang has been working hard outside, and the young master is still young. I'm sorry to have troubled you! These things are not worth much money. They are just a small token of appreciation from the manager of Xianyun Pavilion. Please don't refuse, Sister-in-law Jiao."

He then turned to Jiang Shan and said, "From now on, there's no need to sort the seafood. Live seafood is fine, size doesn't matter. We need to hurry, everyone's waiting for it!"

After saying that, he turned and got into the mule cart.

Jiang Shan watched the mule cart drive away and let out a barely perceptible sigh.

Aunt Hong is telling her not to go to town anymore to promote their seafood hotpot!

"Shan'er, what should we do! These fabrics are expensive, they'll probably cost a lot of money!" Jiao's mother was very worried.

"Keep them for now. When you have time, make a few more winter clothes for Sanlang. He's grown taller now, so we need to prepare a few more spring clothes for him too."

Jiang Shan thought to herself that since Aunt Hong had taken the initiative to be friendly, she couldn't just ignore it.

This is a real hot potato!

In fact, Jiang Shan knew perfectly well that it wouldn't be good for her if either of the two restaurants in town became dominant. As a weak woman struggling to survive in such a precarious situation, all she wanted was a balance and stability.

Aunt Hong meant well, but unintentionally created a problem for her.

We sent some medicinal dishes to Manager Qi before, and now Aunt Hong is sending her daily necessities under the guise of cold dishes. Let's just return the favor with cold dishes!

Jiang Shan thought of both sweet and savory salad dressings.

This world bears some resemblance to the Tang and Song dynasties, but the "Qing Kingdom" she inhabits is not part of the history she is familiar with. Located in south-central China, near the coast, the climate is humid, hence the abundance of spicy and dampness-dispelling seasonings, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.

However, dried goods are not easy to preserve.

Jiang Shan bought some cucumbers and two kinds of fresh vegetables, and asked Liu Da to bring her some seafood. She also bought some nuts at a high price.

Paying the bill really hurt!

Simply put, nuts are too expensive!!

Jiangshan crushed the nuts and simmered them into a sauce. He then mixed two different flavors of cucumber with seasonings, and blanched the seaweed before dipping it in the sauce. It was incredibly delicious!

When the mule cart arrived to collect the seafood with sauce, Jiang Shan packed the prepared salad dressing and cold dishes and put them on the cart.

Aunt Hong didn't come; instead, two shop assistants did. Jiang Shan instructed the assistants to take the items to Aunt Hong and gave her a few brief instructions.
