Chapter 2 Adding Insult to Injury

After settling the elderly man and the child in, Jiangshan went out.

She walked from one end of the village to the other, only to be met with malicious accusations, ridicule, and insults.

Compared to the year she first became a food blogger, and the attacks she received from her haters, it's not even in the same league, there's no comparison.

Once you leave the village, you can see the river where Jiangshan was drowned.

She stood by the river, wondering how she had gotten to this place.

I wonder if it's possible to get back to the modern world from this place?

Why don't you jump down and give it a try?

Step 1, Step 2, Step 3...

Suddenly, someone forcefully pulled my arm backward.

“I went through so much trouble to save you, how can you still be so foolish? You’re so confused! You have an elderly mother to support and a young brother to raise, how can you bear to leave them all alone and helpless?”

Looking at the familiar young man in front of him, Jiang Shan silently swallowed the curse that was about to come out of his mouth.

This person was only eighteen or nineteen years old, dressed in a conventional manner, but spoke in the tone of an old scholar.

"Thank you so much!" Jiang Shan grinned; this was his savior.

The young man paused for a moment, then took a step back with a slightly embarrassed expression and clasped his hands in a salute.

"What's your name? You don't look like someone from the village. What are you doing here? Why haven't you left yet?" Jiang Shan asked with interest.

"I am Fu Zhi. I'm here to take care of some business in town for my young master, and also to ask around among the villagers for someone." Fu Zhi said in a serious tone.

She couldn't help with that; it was her first day here, and she didn't know anyone except the Jiao family mother and son.

I know three people now.

"Young Master Fu, I really have to thank you for today..." If it weren't for him, the original owner might already be dead, and I might not even be here.

It's really hard to say whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.

Fu Zhi waved his hands repeatedly, a suspicious blush rising on his face. "Miss, there's no need for that. It's not me... I'm not... I mean, it should be this way... No, no, what I mean is..."

Jiang Shan chuckled. This guy is really funny.

"No matter what, you saved me, which is equivalent to saving the Jiao family. I thank you on their behalf." Jiang Shan bowed deeply to Fu Zhi.

Fu Zhi panicked and didn't know what to say. He wanted to say something but didn't know how to express himself, and he scratched his head anxiously.

A villager carrying two grass carp walked towards them, and Fu Zhi stepped aside to avoid Jiang Shan's action.

Jiang Shan smelled the fishy odor and began to gag uncontrollably.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Fu Zhi asked hesitantly as he stepped forward.

Jiang Shan thought he might have caught a chill from soaking in the river for too long, so he decided to find a clinic to get some medicine to dispel the cold.

A cold in this society can be fatal if not handled properly. There's an elderly person and a young child in my family with very weak immune systems, so I can't let them get infected.

But she didn't have a single penny on her, how could she get the medicine?

It's true what they say, even a hero can be brought down by a penny; Jiang Shan is finally experiencing what it's like to be broke.

"Young lady, there's an old doctor in a village not far ahead. Why don't I take you there to see him?"

"Oh, I can't accept this! Brother Fu is such a kind person, thank you so much!" Jiang Shan was incredibly sweet-talking, showering everyone with compliments without asking for them.

Fu Zhi led the way, his ears bombarded with Jiang Shan's flattery, and his expression was complicated.

The old doctor in the neighboring village is quite old and doesn't make house calls often, but his medical skills are excellent. It's extremely rare to find him to treat patients in such a remote mountain village.

Fu Zhi stepped forward and presented a silver nugget, which was at least two taels.

The old doctor took the money without saying a word, beckoned Jiang Shan to come forward, and gently pressed two fingers on her pulse point.

He let go after two or three breaths.

"Young lady, you are pregnant, but the pregnancy is not very stable, and there is a suspicion of cold invading your body. However, it is not a big problem. Let me prescribe a medicine, and you can go back and recuperate for a few months."

Jiang Shan felt a tingling sensation on his scalp, followed by a chill, and his whole body felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, his soul seemingly leaving his body.

Fu Zhize behind him narrowed his eyes slightly, and his hands unconsciously clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white.

Jiang Shan didn't know how she got back. When she came to her senses, she was already standing in the Jiao family's courtyard, carrying several packets of medicine in her hand.

She's pregnant!

Having lived for over twenty years and never even touched a man's hand, how could I be pregnant?

No, it wasn't her, it was that idiot from the original owner who was blinded by lust! She left her with a mess, while she herself went off to live a carefree life somewhere!

Never before has Jiangshan felt so hopeless and despondent, as he does now.

In this impoverished place where she barely had enough to eat, she was looked down upon and trampled upon. Her life was as fragile as paper. She could endure all of this, but she couldn't imagine how her young and delicate body could give birth to a child smoothly.

In ancient times, childbirth was like walking through the gates of hell. In an era without anesthesia and antibiotics, she wouldn't dare gamble with her life even if you gave her the guts.

Even if she manages to give birth successfully, how can an unmarried mother support her entire family under such pressure? In this day and age, she could be drowned by the scorn and gossip of others.

"Sister-in-law, you're back! Hmm, it looks like that brother..." Jiao Sanlang ran out upon hearing the commotion, and scratched his head in confusion when he saw Fu Zhi already far away.

"Who is it? Which brother? Is it Erlang who's back? Where is Erlang? Erlang, Erlang!" Jiao's mother rushed out of the house and chased after him.

Jiang Shan grabbed Jiao's mother, his eyes blazing with fury. "You still can't forget your Erlang? That scoundrel is probably hiding somewhere, living the high life, while you and your son are left here to starve. You should be more careful!"

"Where is Erlang? Take me to find him! Shan'er, take me to find Erlang, come on, let's go find Erlang!" Jiao's mother excitedly grabbed Jiang Shan's arm and pulled him away.

"Mother, Mother! Sister-in-law, sister-in-law...!" Jiao Sanlang was small and weak, unable to hold onto one or control the other, and was so anxious that he was almost crying.

Jiang Shan's pent-up anger and resentment finally erupted. She forcefully pressed Jiao's mother down onto a bamboo chair in the courtyard, placed one hand on her hip and pointed to her stomach with the other, and said with unusually strong emotion:

"Mother! Mother-in-law! Listen to me carefully, word by word!"

"Your son, Jiao Yan, the second son of the Jiao family, passed the imperial examination with top honors in a very, very far place! He got promoted and became rich! He doesn't want you anymore!"

"From now on, you won't have a son like Jiao Erlang, but you'll still have a grandson. Do you want him? He's in my belly. Do you want him?"

As Jiang Shan moved, Jiao's mother's gaze fell on her stomach, and she stammered, "Grandson? My grandson? I have a grandson?"

"It's your grandson, yes, he's right here. Do you want him?"
