The mother and her two children entered the house. Jiang Shan put down what he was carrying, wiped his sweat, and said, "On the way back, we saw a wild ginseng. It was huge. Sanlang and I dug for it for a long time. Tomorrow I'll take it to town to exchange for some money and get some medicine for Mother!"
Jiao's mother pursed her lips and said softly, "I won't take the medicine. You save all the money, and when we have enough, we'll go find Erlang!"
Jiang Shan felt a lump in his throat, wanting to say something, but Jiao's mother turned and went back to her room.
After a moment of silence, Jiang Shan went to the kitchen and saw that there was still hot noodle soup in the pot. He shared it with Sanlang and then boiled hot water for them to wash up.
After washing up, Jiang Shan watched Sanlang fall asleep, and then went to Jiao's mother's room.
Jiao's mother sat blankly on the edge of the bed. When she saw Jiang Shan come over, she remained silent, her expression blank, as if she had lost her soul.
