Chapter 193: The Number of People is Worrying

Although Sang Sang Guai searched around but couldn't find Liu Juan and Du Jun, one message he sent back caught Cheng Shuang's attention.

To these outsiders, the square pavilions made it impossible to tell which side was the front and which was the back.

However, the strange fellow bluntly reported that no one had appeared at the waterside pavilion directly opposite the pavilion, and that this waterside pavilion seemed to be half again as large as the others.

If it hadn't noticed this, even if Cheng Shuang looked in the direction of that waterside pavilion, she wouldn't have been able to tell from its appearance that it was any different from the other waterside pavilions.

A city lord will always have some privileges in his own city, but if he is wary of those who will protect him, he certainly cannot do anything too high-profile or attention-grabbing. He can probably only make his living and living spaces more spacious and luxurious.

Cheng Shuang once asked Sang Sang Guai how he could tell the direction. Sang Sang Guai's answer was simple: none of the pavilions where the VIPs were located were directly opposite the main pavilion. Only one pavilion was perfectly aligned with the main pavilion, but he couldn't explain why.

The little girl could understand it after a little thought.

These psychic dolls, known as "Sangsang Monsters," don't distinguish things with their eyes, because eyes often deceive.

Cheng Shuang simply ordered Sang Sang Guai to stay there and notify her immediately if there was any movement.

She guessed that the pavilion was where the city lord watched the performances, and she wanted to see who had sneaked in and whether she knew this person.

The little girl had no idea that she not only knew this person, but there was more than one of them.

The moment the performer began to sing, several people entered the waterside pavilion, led by a young man in his early thirties.

He was handsome with striking features, and he didn't seem to smile much. He sat in the main seat with a stern face, exuding an aura that kept people at a distance.

Because it was seen through the 'vision' of the zombie, the figure seen in his consciousness was rather blurry and not clear enough, but Cheng Shuang still felt a trace of familiarity from the city lord's temperament.

It wasn't until Du Jun was invited to stand beside the city lord that she suddenly realized why she felt so familiar—both the city lord and the young man had expressionless faces!

It seems the city lord has taken a liking to Du Jun's appearance. It's not that the girl is biased; she thinks that although the city lord's appearance is good-looking, it's just ordinary good-looking, far less so than the young man's cold, refined, and indifferent demeanor. Just a slight smile from him gives off a spring-like beauty.

Standing on either side of Du Jun were one woman and three men. The woman was wearing a light blue dress meant for guides, and her voluptuous figure, accentuated by the fine gauze material, exuded a kind of affluent beauty.

Cheng Shuang was somewhat surprised, not expecting Sister Liu Juan to be so bold. But then again, she wasn't timid; she just couldn't control her urge to cry when her emotions were out of control.

Needless to say, the little girl was overjoyed and very proud to know that there were other comrades besides herself who had infiltrated the enemy.

So much so that she took out a bag of candy from her skirt and, in front of Fang Niang and Feng Jiakang, gave ten pieces to Tian Sanlang.

Where did you come from?

Tian Sanlang was both surprised and delighted. He had thought Cheng Shuang was too dense to receive his advances, but now, holding the candy, he felt a slight sense of being recognized.

"When I was changing clothes, I met a VIP. She saw that I was all wet and pitiful, so she gave me a tip." The little girl said, popping a piece into her mouth. It was her first time eating toffee. It was sweet and milky, and delicious.

"What good luck!" Fang Niang muttered, glancing eagerly behind the screen, probably wondering if she should also try getting her clothes wet to ask for a reward.

However, considering the terrifying temperature, Fang Niang cowardly pulled her head back.

What puzzled Tazaburo was something else entirely: "A distinguished guest has come out of the waterside pavilion?"

"She didn't come out; she saw me from the back entrance."

No one doubts that some of the VIPs do indeed have stronger senses than ordinary people.

Feng Jiakang, who had been listening intently, probed, "Perfect timing! I've been wanting to wander around too! Do you have any recommendations?"

Tian Saburo was taken aback. "Then why don't you go during the day? Many entertainment venues are closed tonight and will resume normal operations tomorrow. Besides, the roads are wet, which the boys are used to, but the temperature will freeze you."

Feng Jiakang was easily persuaded, not for any other reason than that he had touched the water in the pool outside the window and found it to be icy cold.

Thinking about the strange feeling in his body, he even wondered if his lack of energy was related to touching the water.

Cheng Shuang didn't share his concerns. She had also taken a risk, and at least the brief contact with water hadn't had any major effects; otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to return to her original body temperature. Even so, the young girl cautiously applied four heat packs to her waist, abdomen, and legs.

"What's wrong with that!" Fang Niang objected to Tian Sanlang's suggestion. She leaned delicately on Feng Jiakang's shoulder, whispering in his ear, "You're a VIP. You can go wherever you want. If you'd like, I'll accompany you!"

Tasaburo's expression immediately changed. "You need to think about the VIP's health!" This bastard tried to shake him off again, knowing full well he shouldn't touch the cold...

"With me protecting you, so what if you get cold and use me to warm your hands? Ha, you bastard, you'll freeze to death!"

These two are just like the emperor's loyal empress and favored concubine, constantly bickering and vying for his affections!

The little girl's thoughts were inexplicably scattered.

"Xiao Shuang, what's your opinion?"

Cheng Shuang, who was forcibly dragged into the battlefield, said: "I think... it still depends on what you think, esteemed guest. If you want to go out, you can call a few guides to escort you."

"Very good, go and call for a sedan chair!" Feng Jiakang was overjoyed, pointing imposingly at the table, "These dishes are yours, you can't let Xiaoshuang go hungry!"

Looking at the table full of leftovers: ...Thanks for the invitation!

"Honorable guest, the guides have worked very hard and haven't had a meal yet. Why don't you pick a few of the most diligent ones and let them eat with me? So that they can also feel your kindness?"

Whether it was out of kindness or not, Feng Jiakang didn't care at all. He hoped that not so many people would follow him. After thinking about it, he realized that there was no minimum number of people needed for the sedan chair. He pretended to be easygoing and ordered a few guides to stay and be given a meal. Fang Niang then helped him into the sedan chair.

Holding the toffee in his hand, Tian Saburo hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and ate two candies in one go before hurriedly following after him.

Outside, there was a noisy commotion of gongs and drums, while in the front hall, Cheng Shuang and several guides looked at each other in bewilderment.

The little girl smiled sweetly, "Brothers and sisters, please don't waste the guests' kindness. I'll go keep them company now! Please enjoy your meal!"

Looking at the table full of leftovers, the guides said: ...Thanks for the invitation!

Cheng Shuang walked along the corridor, with a group of people trailing behind in the distance. The sedan chairs were moving slowly, and amidst the hustle and bustle, she had a strange sense of being detached from it all.

The little girl lowered her head and silently counted the protectors the monster had encountered. In the vast Abyss City, there were only twenty-five protectors, including Du Jun, Liu Juan, and herself.

Each maintainer is surrounded by at least twenty natives.

"Hiss!" The little girl gasped. The ratio of people was worrying!
