The giant bear put down its hunting paws, carried Cheng Shuang on its back, and ran off, digging in the sand with its four paws on the ground.
As soon as Lie Fu stood firm, he saw his companions all rushing to catch the one who had attacked him with a sneak attack. Naturally, he didn't want to fall behind, so he took off and followed the giant bear.
Soon, he saw the giant bear stop in one place, its upper body slightly raised, ready to pounce. Its pair of beady eyes, which had only ever looked wet and innocent in front of Cheng Shuang, revealed a ferocious and cold glint.
Because the woman who was hiding in the shadows launched a malicious attack, the bear cub's protective shield skill automatically activated. It identified her as an enemy and fought back to protect its master. Without any command, it raised its front paws and slapped the woman who was lying on the ground.
The enormous claws stirred up a gust of sand, and the scorching wind carried a chilling murderous aura.
The woman was already injured, and now, being targeted by a wild beast, she was limp and pale. Terrified, she closed her eyes tightly, forgetting even to dodge, and instinctively cried out, "No!"
"Don't……"
"etc!"
"Little bear, don't do it!"
Only the last sentence made the giant bear obediently stop its actions, and its paw, which was as big as a basketball, stopped right at the tip of the woman's nose.
Large beads of sweat were visible to the naked eye rolling down the woman's forehead and temples.
She held her breath, having narrowly escaped death, and quickly moved back a few steps, scrambling to create distance between herself and the giant bear. Holding her shoulder, pierced by an arrow, she stared at the beast with fear and caution, her eyes revealing hatred and indignation as she glanced at the little girl on the bear's back.
"Shuangshuang, do you know her? Why did she want to kill you?" Hei Zishan asked in surprise. The little girl had always been with them and hadn't had much time to meet outsiders, let alone make enemies. Hei Zishan asked this only because the two had met at other gates of reincarnation.
Cheng Shuang shook her head firmly, "I don't know her." She didn't flinch, looking directly into the woman's hateful eyes. Under the absolute protection of Xiong Baobao, she twitched her little nose and snorted loudly to express her dissatisfaction and anger.
The little girl then buried her face in the back of the teddy bear's neck and rubbed it against it to calm herself down.
In just one day, she was almost killed by two people.
The little girl felt a little wronged, but she didn't want to show her helplessness to her companions. She was afraid they would look down on her for being useless. She hugged the teddy bear tightly with her two little fists and quickly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"I know," Du Jun said coldly, raising his chin and revealing contempt for the first time on his expressionless face. "Does she look familiar to you?"
Lie Fu looked closely and vaguely felt that he had seen the middle-aged woman's eyebrows and eyes somewhere before.
“She’s a maintainer.” Kuroko remembered seeing her at the cafeteria, then a strange look appeared on his handsome face as he recalled something. “The girl next to her died in the second wave of the game, but what does that have to do with Shuangshuang?” His tone was odd as he said the last sentence.
"It's her, it must be her! My daughter was so talented, she could have won the game, but she stole her victory. My dear daughter, she's dead, killed by this brat! I saw it, my daughter kept glaring at this brat, this damned girl must have used some tricks! My daughter is dead, she has no way to express her suffering! I will avenge her!"
The woman screamed eerily; it was a tragic scene of an elderly person burying their child, yet it failed to elicit even a shred of sympathy from others.
"I'm avenging my daughter! You lot, don't be so blind! Help me kill her, kill her! If you have any conscience left, kill this damned girl! Otherwise, she'll use the same methods to harm you sooner or later!"
Tears streamed down her face, and her eyes revealed a chilling hatred for Cheng Shuang. Perhaps driven to desperation, her words were utterly provocative, clumsy yet filled with panic.
"Your daughter answered the question wrong herself, what does it have to do with anyone else!" Lie Fu's face turned cold, his sunny and handsome face dark and ugly. He and Cheng Shuang were closest to each other, and if the arrow were slightly off, it would be killing two birds with one stone.
Hei Zishan sneered even more venomously, "If you really care about your daughter, why don't you stand up to the host and save her? Bah, you bully the weak and fear the strong!"
Du Jun's peach blossom eyes were filled with frost. He didn't say anything more. Seeing the woman's face twisted in a ferocious manner and still trying to talk nonsense, he went over and pulled the arrow out of her shoulder. Amid her painful wails, he also took away the crossbow.
He moved so fast that in the blink of an eye, he pierced the woman's other shoulder with the arrow in his hand. While Hei Zishan stared in disbelief, he said calmly, "This person cannot be left alive." He looked up at the other two, his gaze intense, "Given her personality, she must hate the three of us now. From now on, in addition to being wary of dangers everywhere, we must also guard against her treacherous attacks. Leaving an enemy here is tantamount to being in danger ourselves."
The woman lay writhing in pain on the sand, her arms hanging limply, cursing Cheng Shuang and Du Jun with all sorts of vile language. Even so, she didn't take out any medicine to replenish her blood and heal her wounds, either because she was deliberately keeping some for herself or because she had run out of medicine.
Lie Fu's eyes darkened. He snatched the arrow from Du Jun's hand and pierced the woman's legs. Then he put the arrow into his spatial storage and turned to Du Jun, saying, "Let's finish this decisively. We can't give the enemy any chance to turn the tide."
Sitting on the teddy bear, Cheng Shuang was dumbfounded. She rubbed her reddened eyes and saw that in the blink of an eye, the woman was covered in blood and her limbs were limp and she had no strength to resist anymore. Something was quietly awakening in her heart, but she was not surprised by this outcome.
The post-apocalyptic girl's experience taught her that murderers will inevitably be killed.
When facing one's enemies, mercy is nothing but hypocritical cowardice.
Du Jun glanced at Cheng Shuang out of the corner of his eye and immediately looked away. He glanced at his watch and said, "It's time to go. Time is running out." He didn't want Shuang Shuang to think that his companion was a cruel and murderous person, but he couldn't let the woman in front of him go. She still had no remorse. He didn't want to dirty his hands if he didn't kill her with his own hands.
Lie Fu glanced at Cheng Shuang and whispered to Du Jun, "You guys go first, I'll stay behind."
Du Jun's eyes flickered slightly, and he immediately understood what Lie Fu meant. None of them would feel at ease unless they watched this person die with their own eyes.
“I’ll stay too,” he said briefly.
Cheng Shuang was too young, and the three boys felt guilty doing this in front of her. Hei Zishan took the initiative to call out to the giant bear and ran away into the distance.
Du Jun and Lie Fu also tacitly retreated a distance to avoid the range of the statue's attack.
As a shadow fell, the woman's unwilling cries and curses abruptly ceased. She slowly raised her head, meeting a pair of empty, merciless eyes. The griffin's wings flapped with a fierce wind, and its claws, sharp as swords, reached out to grab her.
The shadow of death loomed large. The woman's gaze slowly shifted to the two boys hiding not far away, her lips moving silently: You will get your comeuppance...
Yellow sand rose up, covering the stench of blood; only the sharp, piercing screams remained, yet were quickly forgotten by everyone.
