The group of men each found a weapon they could use for self-defense. The bald, burly man, wearing a white vest, shorts, and flip-flops, had nothing else on him except his clothes. He approached the woman and politely asked to borrow her other shoe.
The woman wiped her face, tears still streaming down her cheeks, but she didn't hesitate and took off her shoes, handing them to the big man.
The big man thanked him profusely, and even took the lead in walking ahead to express his gratitude.
The second was the man with the briefcase, Cheng Shuang was the third, followed by the weeping woman, and then the others followed one after another.
The light drew ever closer, bringing new hope to the people. Even though the large tumor kept appearing unexpectedly, causing the seven of them to wander around in circles and occasionally have to fight back the monster that suddenly appeared like a whack-a-mole, nothing could stop them from seeking peace.
What should have been a ten-minute walk in a straight line took more than an hour.
As they approached the edge of the dense fog, the music became increasingly clear.
Through a layer of fog that obscured the sun, the bright light was like a lighthouse guiding people back to shore.
Strangely, there seemed to be an invisible barrier between the two sides.
They could hear the music and see the lights, but they couldn't tell whether the other side was heaven or hell. Everyone was exhausted, their spirits, minds, and bodies were stretched taut, and the slightest carelessness would cause a complete collapse.
The burly man let out a heavy sigh, straightened his back, and stepped out first, enveloped in mist.
The refined man paused for half a second, deliberately listening intently. After confirming there were no screams, he broke through the thick fog and disappeared.
Despite being exhausted and feeling weak in both hands and feet, Cheng did not hesitate in his steps. The moment he took a step, a chill suddenly ran down his spine.
The little girl turned around abruptly and saw that the woman with tears in her eyes had been hurriedly pushed aside by a man behind her, who then rushed past them.
Seeing the woman with tears in her eyes and a look of terror on her face as she veered towards the abyss, the pale-faced girl didn't have time to think. She stepped forward and reached out to grab her.
Even with the blessing of the soul, the twelve-year-old girl's old ailment was no longer a major problem, but her strength was far from that of an adult.
The only saving grace was that there was no trace of the fleshy monster at the entrance of the cave.
The two of them suddenly slid down, and Cheng Shuang was pulled down to her knees with a thud, barely managing to control her body by using the resistance of her knee.
The woman was clearly terrified; her face turned pale, and tears and snot instantly streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Because of the prolonged panic, their hands were sweaty. Fortunately, the other person reacted quickly and cleverly, using their elbow to wedge themselves at the edge of the black hole, relieving some of the pressure on Cheng Shuang.
The problem is that the walls of a black hole are smooth, so there's nowhere to land.
The little girl had very limited strength; the veins on her thin neck were taut. She tilted her head and pleaded with the two men behind her, "Uncle, please help me."
It's just a matter of lending a hand; a child might not struggle or think about it much.
However, one of the men smiled maliciously, his eyes filled with contempt, as if to say, "Serves you right for having to beg." He was clearly still angry about the young woman's earlier actions in protecting the little girl. He leisurely walked past them, crossed the thick fog barrier, and ignored the little girl's confused and shocked gaze.
As for the teddy bear that was thrown aside, he didn't even glance at it. After being beaten all the way, the thin and fragile skin of the tumor monster had become deeply ingrained in people's minds, and it had nothing to do with the teddy bear.
The other man hesitated, about to reach out, when he heard something, looked back, his expression changed, and he quickly straightened up and disappeared into the thick fog without looking back.
Cheng Shuang followed his gaze, and her pupils suddenly contracted.
The rugged road, riddled with black holes, was covered with a layer of dark, gooey stuff that seemed to be crawling rapidly toward them like an overwhelming swarm.
The little girl had excellent eyesight and immediately recognized their species.
A swarm of ugly beetles, each the size of a football, came rushing in with a whooshing sound. Their shells were covered with spiky, algae-green spines, and they held up two large claws the size of lobster pincers, making a snapping sound.
As the army marched on, even the tumors could not stop their rampage. Some tumors that were slow to move were even bitten until they bled profusely, and some even jumped directly into their mouths. In no time, they had eaten the millstone-sized monster from the inside out, leaving only a few sharp teeth.
Fortunately, the fleshy tumors and the abyss blocked their way, forcing the beetle monsters to slow down. Many fell into the cave as they devoured the fleshy tumors, but even more poured in from behind.
After seeing everything clearly, the woman, who was hanging on the edge of the black hole, completely broke down. Her eyes were unfocused, and she screamed madly, "Help, save me, help!" For a moment, she forgot that the person who was barely holding her was a young child.
Cheng Shuang gritted her teeth, her delicate and slender face turning red from the effort.
They devoured so quickly, eliminating a tumor in almost ten seconds. On a human, that amount of flesh wouldn't even be enough to fill their teeth. So, in no time, they were less than a hundred meters away from the two.
"Sister, push harder!" The little girl's voice was so shrill that it jolted the woman out of despair.
A renewed hope for life rekindled in her eyes. She gripped the ground with both elbows and arms, constantly searching for something to hold onto with her feet.
Unfortunately, she was a white-collar woman who sat in the office all day. She was wearing a dark blue professional dress that revealed her soft, muscular arms and legs. After a long and arduous escape, she simply didn't have the strength to climb out of the deep hole. It was already her best effort not to drag this kind child into the abyss with her.
She tried several times, but she couldn't help but glance out of the corner of her eye at the approaching swarm of insects. She watched as the beetles leaped up one after another, overcoming numerous obstacles, until they were almost within reach. Finally, they let out a heart-wrenching wail, "I can't do it!"
A few words revealed a person's mindset. Clearly, this woman was desperate and ready to give up. Her arms loosened, and she slid down.
All the weight fell onto Cheng Shuang's hands at once. If she didn't let go, then it wouldn't just be one person who died.
The little girl screamed again, and before the woman could let go, her body was being pulled towards the hole.
Just as Cheng Shuang was waiting for the pain to begin, the back of her collar suddenly tightened, and she was forcibly dragged backward. When she opened her eyes, she immediately saw a colorful sky and three faces looking down at her.
The young woman was also rescued, but fainted beside her.
"Little friend, you're so brave!" The bald, burly man grinned, revealing eight pearly white teeth, while the man with the briefcase next to him gave him a thumbs up.
The young man standing in front of her was dressed in the most ordinary light gray suit, with the buttons of his white shirt neatly fastened to the collar. He was tall and strong, exuding a unique youthful vigor. When he looked at her, his handsome and delicate expressionless face was full of disapproval. "You should know your limits!"
