Chapter 601: Topics Beyond the Scope

The slit-mouthed woman roared angrily at the three children, her gaping maw creating a whirlpool like a hurricane, causing the two children with their backs to be blown off balance by the wind.

Seeing this opportunity, Cheng Shuang threw the knife over again.

The slit-mouthed woman opened her mouth wide and cursed, "Idiot!" The same trick wouldn't work twice on her. She swung her arm and used her large scissors to deflect the knife, but she couldn't dodge the lightning talisman hidden in her palms.

The talisman fell smoothly into the gaping maw of blood.

In an instant, lightning flashed and thunder roared in the quiet alley.

With a crackling sound, even the two terrified children couldn't resist their curiosity and turned around to look.

The slit-mouthed woman's long, flowing hair stood on end like a bristling hedgehog, and wisps of gray smoke billowed from her large, forked mouth.

The monster convulsed, and lightning bolts danced wildly across its body, like a beautiful little silver dragon.

Yumi, still sweating profusely, pretended to be calm and quietly took out a disposable camera from her backpack, snapping two pictures.

Qianli, standing next to her, stared wide-eyed, as if she were seeing her for the first time, her expression conveying a sense of 'Are you crazy?'

After the flash went out, the Slit-Mouthed Woman fell backward with a thud. Qianli immediately stepped forward, grabbed Cheng Shuang's sleeve, and urged with a frown, "Let's go!"

Cheng Shuang hesitated. She patted her backpack. "Do you think I should give your former owner a gift?"

Fried rice with egg...

"What are you saying? Yuko, let's go home quickly!" Before she could answer, Chisato hurriedly pulled her and ran home.

Cheng Shuang's idea was just a sudden whim, but considering that the Slit-Mouthed Woman, apart from her incredible speed, didn't have any special fighting ability, compared to the deeply resentful Kayako, if they really encountered each other, she would just be Kayako's prey.

After thinking it through, Cheng Shuang followed Qianli's steps and left the place, with Youmei following closely behind.

Only after the three had walked away did the Slit-Mouthed Woman shakily put on a mask, lie on the ground, and look utterly bewildered. "Are even elementary school students this amazing now? What's wrong with this world?"

Both main classes had homework today, and the elementary school students were huddled in the living room working hard. As for the Slit-Mouthed Woman, did having homework matter?

Fortunately, the fourth-grade curriculum was very simple, with only ten math problems and language exercises involving reading aloud the texts we had already learned.

After finishing her homework, Cheng Shuang ran to the kitchen to tell Akasaka's mother, grabbed her schoolbag, and went home first.

Toshio was no longer in the guest room, but the bed in the guest room showed signs of having been made and was quite tidy. She put down her schoolbag and turned to go to the Saeki house.

Actually, they don't live that far from the Saeki family's house, but yesterday they were in such a hurry to find Kojiro that they took a long detour. Now, the straight-line distance is only a ten-minute walk.

Cheng Shuang didn't go inside. Instead, she placed a box of sushi in the yard and called out, "This was made by the little black cat. It wants you to try it."

On the second floor, Junxiong stood at the window, staring blankly at the bento box, but when he heard the dragging footsteps behind him, he quickly pulled the curtains shut.

Cheng Shuang glanced at the window upstairs, raised an eyebrow slightly, and saw two figures reflected in the fluttering gauze window, one tall and one short.

It seems that Master Zhengying's talismans can restrain Kayako for at least one night. I wonder what the effect will be when all six talismans are used at the same time.

The little girl left thoughtfully, unaware that a pale hand reached out from a slightly ajar door, carrying the anger of its owner, and overturned the lunchbox outside the yard.

If she could understand the language of vengeful spirits, she would surely have heard Kayako scolding her son for wandering off with strangers and for being a bad child for staying out all night...

Junxiong stared blankly at the few pieces of sushi that had rolled onto the ground, and he felt a little tempted to eat them!

Because of a cat, Yumi's love affair ended without a trace. Her attitude towards Qianli was no longer as patient as when she was a simp. On the contrary, she became more and more attached to Cheng Shuang and insisted on sleeping at Kawakami's house at night.

Cheng Shuang initially disagreed, as she wasn't entirely confident she could protect Yumi should Kayako launch a surprise attack. However, Yumi's words forced her to compromise.

Yumi's mother would call to check up on them at night, partly to make sure the two single girls were safe.

Yumi's adorable and spoiled behavior melted Akasaka's mother's heart. She pushed her son out, believing that as a little man, he should protect the safety of the two little girls.

But Qianli prefers to believe that her mother wanted to spend some time alone with her father, so she simply made up an excuse to send him away...

Since the two houses are neighbors, a shout would easily alert the adults if anything happened, so Akasaka's father had no objections.

The three children carried their midnight snack back to the Kawakami family home.

Egg Fried Rice nestled in Yumi's lap, enjoying the treatment of being the cat's master. Occasionally, when it was petted comfortably, it would even purr softly.

Qianli checked the doors and windows of the house again, including the kitchen, because Yuko had cooked yesterday, and he was a little worried.

There was only one guest room. Yumi, who was refused a roommate by Cheng Shuang, had no choice but to stay in the guest room, while Qianli had to sleep on the sofa in the living room for one night.

After washing up and changing into their pajamas, the three of them gathered in the living room to watch TV. Without adult supervision, both Chisato and Yumi were a little excited.

When choosing a movie subject, Mei whispered mysteriously in Cheng Shuang's ear, "I brought a videotape! It's said that only those who watch it can truly grow up!"

Qianli, who had been eavesdropping, blushed bright red. He looked at Cheng Shuang, who was completely bewildered, and glared at Youmei, yelling, "What nonsense are you talking about! Don't show Youzi that kind of rubbish!"

Yumi frowned, puzzled, and asked, "What? How could it be random stuff!" She angrily pulled a videotape from her backpack and showed it to Chisato, "It's a documentary! What did a documentary ever do to you!"

Qianli's face burned even hotter, as if he were about to burst into flames. Finally, he picked up the drink on the table and drank it all in one gulp.

"Hmph! Boys!" Yumi pouted and started whispering to Cheng Shuang again, "Distance makes the heart grow fonder. I thought Akasaka-kun was so mature and cute, but now... pfft! He's no different from any other boy, just a pervert!"

Seeing Cheng Shuang's bewildered expression, Yumi smiled maliciously, snuggled into her arms, and chuckled mockingly, "Our Yuko is so naive, don't let yourself be fooled by men in the future!"

Cheng Shuang suddenly realized that Yumi's topic seemed a bit too advanced... She tightly shut her mouth. Are all ten-year-olds this mature? Was she out of touch and had a generation gap?

That's so cruel!

She's only twelve years old, so why does she have this illusion that life is full of vicissitudes and time is passing too quickly?

The technology in this land of the dead is not as advanced as in the modern world, but the children are very independent, so they all seem quite mature.

Cheng Shuang came to her senses and found that Yumi had already put the videotape into the VCR.

The little girl had never seen this device before. She watched as Yumi quickly adjusted it, and the TV screen changed, first showing static, then some strange and incomprehensible clips.

I was even more confused!

Does watching these things really help you grow?

You must be kidding me!!!

Perhaps she really has a generation gap with a ten-year-old?

While Cheng Shuang was filled with self-doubt, she didn't notice the deathly pale faces of the two children beside her...
