Chapter 654 Nine-Story Building 1

Cheng Shuang opened her eyes. The sky was pitch black... no, it should be the ceiling!

She realized she was indoors, lying on a thin wooden bed. Instead of getting up rashly, she quietly moved her head to look around.

This was a small room with no windows or lights, only a tightly sealed small door, making the room very dark.

Fortunately, there was no one else there.

The little girl slowly got up and, after checking, found nothing else in the room except a single wooden bed, and no surveillance equipment.

She walked to the small door and was about to let the zombie out to check when her ears twitched and she heard footsteps first.

Tap tap tap, the footsteps were neat and uniform, crisp and clear, like the sound of leather boots striking the floor tiles.

It wasn't just one person, it was at least four.

She quickly turned around and went to the single bed, lying down again in the same position as when she was awake.

The footsteps grew closer. "Open the door," came the rough, hoarse male voice, carrying an unyielding, iron-fisted tone.

The small door opened from the outside, and a ray of light poured in from the corridor, while a faint smell of blood permeated the entire small room.

The sullen monster clung to the shadows on the side of the wall, using its consciousness to transmit the scene at the doorway to Cheng Shuang.

Leading the group was a burly man with a thick beard. His ferocious muscles were encased in a sharp black and gold uniform, which further accentuated his tall and imposing stature, exuding a fierce and savage aura.

The four men behind him were dressed similarly, with uniform caps tucked under their arms, and stood at the door awaiting his orders.

Cheng Shuang noticed that the burly man had a badge on his uniform, the badge's design covered with thorns, with the Arabic numeral 1 surrounded in the middle of the thorns.

He stepped inside, looked down at her, and ordered, "Drag her away."

"yes!"

The four answered in unison, their voices echoing with a fierce aura in the small space. Cheng Shuang didn't want to be dragged away like a dead fish, so before a pair of large hands could pull her up, she opened her eyes, stood up, and asked innocently and helplessly, "Who are you?"

No one responded; the five burly men seemed unsurprised by her sudden awakening.

The young girl frowned slightly, nimbly lowered her head, turned sideways, and nimbly got off the ground. She dodged the hand that was pulling her again, looked at the leader of the men at the door whose hair was so thick it obscured her vision, and said firmly, "I'll go with you, no need to drag me."

Seeing his four subordinates silently looking at him, the burly man raised an eyebrow slightly and nodded almost imperceptibly.

Cheng Shuang was trapped in the middle, following closely behind these men who looked like soldiers.

Along the long, wide corridor are rows of small, locked doors. The doors are ordinary iron doors, secured with simple padlocks. The dim light bulbs overhead are bright, yet they make the walls appear yellowish, giving the whole place a sense of antiquity.

The place had a very down-to-earth style, like a small hotel in a third-tier city, unremarkable in appearance, but Cheng Shuang noticed something out of place about it.

Such a rough iron door should have allowed light to filter through the cracks, but the room was pitch black, blocking out all light, like a sealed box.

Is it because the door is made of such good quality?

The little girl lowered her eyes slightly and followed the five people around a bend. The corridor was still the same corridor, but the sides were now filled with countless iron doors, looking exactly like a prison cell.

Each 'cage' was filled with a thick smell of blood, heavy breathing, and the clanging and struggling sounds of iron locks, as if ferocious beasts hiding in the shadows were tightly chained up, only able to stare menacingly at the few people outside the cages, especially the weakest prey—Cheng Shuang.

The meanings conveyed by those gazes were all different, making it impossible to ignore the cruelty and malice within them.

Cheng Shuang quickened her pace, walking almost side-by-side with the two men in front of her, which somewhat blocked their unfriendly gazes.

The two men glanced at her with unwavering eyes, acquiescing to her actions since their superiors hadn't intervened.

She pretended to be scared and looked down at the dark tiles on the ground. The grout between the tiles was full of black and red grime, from which most of the bloody smell emanated.

The five men led her through a maze of turns until they reached a double door. The burly man pushed the door open and went in first.

The smell of disinfectant replaced the stench of blood. Cheng Shuang looked up. There were no signs on the door frame, but the inside was all white and clean. A beautiful woman in a white coat stood with her back to her.

Hearing the noise, she turned her head. Her beautiful eyebrows and eyes were hidden behind her gold-rimmed glasses. When she looked at the burly man, her expressionless face showed indifference until the man entered the room and made way for Cheng Shuang behind him.

"So small?"

“Age doesn’t matter in places like this.” The burly man waved his arm and impatiently pushed Cheng Shuang over. “Give her a test. If her attributes are suitable, send her straight to the competition. That way, those big shots won’t complain about being bored and will stop causing endless trouble.”

The woman in the white coat suppressed her surprise and picked up a gun-shaped tool from the table. "Was she with those two people from before?"

"Well, these invaders are just a waste of food if they stay in jail anyway, so we might as well relieve the pressure on our people."

Cheng Shuang listened quietly the whole time. No wonder the trio required that each person's combined physical strength and power value not exceed 300. It must be related to this gun-shaped device and its so-called attributes.

She obediently let the instrument scan her eyes and brows, her innocent eyes gazing at the woman, her large, watery eyes filled with confusion and timidity.

The woman's gaze flickered as she stared at the instrument, then she quickly glanced at Cheng Shuang. She looked up uncertainly at the burly man and asked, "Edren, are you sure she's an intruder?"

"Ha, isn't that right? We haven't had any children here for years!" The burly man grew increasingly impatient, stepping forward and urging, "Linda, report!"
