Chapter 138 Hongli is intoxicated

With a soft "hmm," Lady Fucha nodded in response, "Fourth Master is absolutely right, I know what to do."

Hongli felt pathetic. Even though Su Yushan was no longer there, he still had to pretend that she was still by his side and lie to her again and again. What was he trying to achieve?

With a sigh of disappointment, he turned over, closed his eyes, and turned his back to Lady Fucha, saying lazily, "I've had too much to drink today and I'm not feeling well, so I won't talk to you."

It's rare for him to come all this way, yet he's drunk again. Why did he have to drink today of all days? Lady Fucha couldn't help but be suspicious, wondering if Hongli had gotten himself drunk to avoid being intimate with her.

Knowing that he has no feelings for her, what's the point of speculating now?

With a wry smile, Lady Fucha stopped pondering and tucked the blanket around him before turning to face the inside of the tent. It could truly be said that:

Back to back in the bridal chamber, the lover's heart has already flown far away.

They won fame and fortune, yet endured hardship and humiliation without complaint.

Su Yushan ignored the rumors circulating in the capital and paid no further attention to them; she only wanted to live a peaceful and free life.

As the weather grew colder, her bed remained damp and cold. Originally, she and Yunfang each had their own blanket, but now, unable to bear it any longer, they folded their blankets together and squeezed into one blanket to keep warm.

The wheat had been planted, and the farm work in the fields was finished. Early in the morning, Qinghe took his bow and arrows and went hunting in the mountains.

He didn't return until nearly evening. He had a very fruitful day; he had caught two rabbits, a pheasant, and two fish.

Yunfang was overjoyed, clapping her hands and cheering, "We can finally eat wild game tonight! Sister, what do you want to eat? How about we slaughter the rabbit first?"

Su Yushan had no idea what to do; she had never cooked rabbit meat before, so she could only let Yunfang do it.

Since they wouldn't eat the fish for now, Qinghe put it in the water tank to keep it alive. Su Yushan rubbed her cold little hands, about to go to the kitchen to help, when Qinghe called her back and handed her something.

"It was made by the coppersmith at the village entrance. The design may not be very beautiful, but you'll have to make do with it."

Su Yushan took it and looked at it. Judging from its shape and the openwork lid, it seemed to be a hand warmer.

Last year, when they spent the winter at the manor, hand warmers and hot water bottles were essential items, each one exquisitely designed, and she had more than she could use. But here, copper items have become extremely valuable, and ordinary families cannot afford them. Having even one is considered a rare item. Moreover, they often have to do chores and simply do not have the leisure to carry hand warmers around. Therefore, Yunfang's family only has one hot water bottle, which the two of them share at night.

Su Yushan wasn't a delicate person, and thought that the hand warmer was optional and she could make do with it. Little did she expect that Qinghe would actually have someone make a bronze hand warmer for her.

She couldn't accept gifts from others for nothing, so she said to him, "The style doesn't matter, as long as it keeps you warm. How much did this bronze stove cost? I'll give it back to you."

Qinghe said there was no need, "I traded it with someone using my prey, so I don't need any money. You can keep it."

Just then, Yunfang came out of the kitchen and saw this scene. She laughed and stepped forward to tease her, "Qinghe, you're so biased! You only made a hand warmer for Sister Yu'er, why didn't you think of making one for me too?"
