Chapter 181 Hongli's Doubts

He said he would absolutely trust her and wouldn't pursue the matter any further, but it was all a lie. He was just trying to coax her. After she gave birth, he would secretly do a blood test to see if the child was really his...

The man she almost gave her heart to again was actually putting on an act the whole time, and acting so affectionately that she almost believed him!

Clutching her chest, Su Yushan felt an excruciating pain. Yunfang rushed to her aid, while Changyue picked up the young prince. The kneeling nanny kept kowtowing and begging for mercy.

"Princess, this old servant is just a child-taker. How dare I stop the Fourth Master from doing this? Fortunately, the child's blood is compatible with the Fourth Master's, and he is very satisfied with the result. However, he forbids anyone from revealing this. If he finds out that this old servant told the truth, he will punish him severely. Princess, you have a compassionate heart. It's best if you keep this to yourself and don't ask the Fourth Master any further questions, or this old servant will soon be dead!"

Su Yushan knew all too well that the servants were acting against their will, so she didn't make things difficult for the old woman, simply waving her hand to let her leave.

"I'm a little tired, you can take the child with you!"

Seeing Su Gege's appearance, it seemed she was heartbroken and had no intention of pursuing the matter further. The nanny breathed a sigh of relief, took the child from Chang Yue's arms, and hurriedly carried her out.

After the person left, Su Yushan felt a chill in her heart. Recalling everything that had happened, she felt that this was indeed something Hongli was capable of doing.

How could members of the royal family not be suspicious?

Clutching her fingers tightly, Su Yushan gave a bitter smile, silently admonishing herself that it was enough to see through his character; there was no need to waste unnecessary emotions on him.

He doesn't deserve her heartbreak!

When Hongli returned in the evening, he heard the baby crying, so he went over and the nanny said that the baby had just woken up and she was about to feed him.

Hongli could not approach, so he instructed the nanny to bring the child over after feeding.

He then went to Yu Shan's bedroom, where she was leaning against the curtain reading a book. He approached and simply snatched the book from her hands.

"The doctor said that you shouldn't read books during postpartum confinement, as it will hurt your eyes."

Her hands were suddenly empty. Su Yushan said in a muffled voice, "If you're not reading, what are you reading?"

He placed the book to one side, then sat down by the tent, leaning slightly forward with his arms on either side of her. He gazed at her closely, his voice soft and husky, "Look at me."

His dark eyes shone brightly, like a spark of starlight in the darkness, containing tender affection.

If that incident hadn't happened, perhaps she would have blushed unconsciously because of his words, but she already knew that there was a thorn in her heart, and her mindset naturally changed.

Reading hurts my eyes, but looking at him... makes me sad.

She didn't speak, seemingly calmly observing him, but her eyes were constantly shifting with complex emotions, which surprised Hongli.

Why are you looking at me like that? It makes me uncomfortable.

"Really?" Su Yushan followed up, "Could it be that you've done something wrong, otherwise why would you be so guilty?"

She was clearly implying that if he had spoken up first, perhaps she wouldn't be so distressed. However, Hongli pondered for a moment seriously and said with absolute certainty:

"I have not done anything wrong, and I have always been honest with you."

She gave him a chance, hoping he would tell the truth on his own initiative. She even thought that maybe this wasn't his intention, or maybe there was some misunderstanding.

However, he refused to admit it and never mentioned the matter. Su Yushan lowered her eyes, gave a self-deprecating smile, and finally said nothing more.

Before long, the nanny came over with the baby, saying that the little prince had eaten his fill and had already opened his eyes.

Hongli took the baby and held him upright. The nanny quickly reminded him, "Fourth Prince, be careful. You can't hold a baby like that. His neck can't support it. You have to hold him horizontally or at an angle."

The nanny taught him step by step, and Hongli learned diligently, being very careful with every movement, even a little stiff, for fear of hurting the child.

After pondering for a while, Hongli finally adjusted his posture and brought the child to her side. "Yushan, look, our son's eyebrows and nose are just like mine, and his eyes are just like yours, big and round."

Su Yushan glanced at the child; this was the first time she had seen the child open his eyes. It should have been a warm and sweet moment for the family, but the thought of the scars on the child's hands made her heart clench, and she could no longer smile. She silently looked away.

She wanted to give a perfunctory reply, but she couldn't bring herself to say it. A surge of grievance welled up inside her, and her nose stung with tears. If she opened her mouth, her voice would betray her. So she simply turned her face away, gave a soft "hmm," and didn't say another word.

Seeing this, Hongli could tell that her emotions seemed a bit off, so he handed the child to the nanny and waved his hand.

The understanding nanny carried the child out first. Hongli raised his hand to touch her forehead, which was not hot. Then he lightly brushed her cheek with his finger. "Who made you angry? Tell me, and I will help you get justice."

Su Yushan's eyes dimmed, and her voice was slightly cold, "Nobody provoked me."

"Then why are you so cold to the child? Did you want a girl but had a boy instead?" At this moment, Hongli had not yet realized the seriousness of the problem and joked:

"Next time, let's try again and strive to have a girl, just as you wish."

"Get pregnant again, and go through the gates of hell again?" At that moment, Su Yushan really couldn't understand why she was so foolish as to risk her life to have a child with this man. After the child was born, he took it and cut his finger to drip blood. What was the meaning of this child's existence?

Her tone wasn't coquettish or fearful; it was clearly a sullen remark. Hongli assumed she was just in a bad mood, which was why she spoke so harshly, so he coaxed her gently:

"If you don't want to, then we won't have the baby. I respect your decision."
