Actually, he was just trying to scare her. Seeing how exhausted she was, how could he bear to let her suffer any more?
He draped a goose-down quilt over her and coaxed her with a smile, "Alright, I won't bother you, you can rest now!"
Outside, a light snow was still falling, the wind was howling and the branches were swaying. The lanterns hanging under the eaves emitted a faint light, casting a soft halo on the snow. Inside, however, it was warm and cozy, and even the air tasted sweet...
The snow fell for three days straight, only stopping on the fourth day.
Under the warm sun and as the snow melted, it was a rare fine day. Xi Lan came to Hua Tang Pavilion and invited Su Yu Shan to stroll around the back garden together.
In the back garden, there is a plum grove, where several plum trees are blooming bright red, contrasting beautifully with the scattered snow on the grass. The red and white colors are particularly eye-catching.
Chang Yue stepped forward and broke off a branch of plum blossoms, saying she would put it in a vase later. Seeing this, Mo'er also broke off a few branches.
The master and servants chatted idly while admiring the flowers, feeling relaxed and content. Just as they were enjoying their conversation, they suddenly saw two people walking from the south; it was none other than Kim Min-kyung and her servant.
Today, Kim Min-jung wore a scarlet vest, the snow-white fox collar of which made her lips look even redder. As she strolled through the garden, she held a Persian cat in her arms, her nails painted with henna against the cat's fur, the red almost glaring.
The cat was beautiful, with a somewhat aloof expression, and it bore a striking resemblance to its owner.
Kim Min-jung kept both cats and dogs in her home. She seemed to really like these snow-white little pets. Su Yu-shan also liked them, but that was all. She wouldn't keep them as pets because she had watched too many palace dramas and witnessed too many incidents of cats and dogs injuring people. To avoid causing trouble for herself, she resolutely refused to keep them.
Upon seeing her, Xi Lan's smile vanished, and she scoffed, "Why is she here too? What a spoilsport!"
With both old and new grudges piling up, Su Yushan couldn't even be bothered with a perfunctory reply. "If we can't afford to offend them, can't we at least avoid them? Let's go!"
Su Yushan was the first to stand up and walk down from the pavilion. Xi Lan didn't want to talk to Jin Minjing either, so she followed closely behind Su Yushan. Unexpectedly, Jin Minjing noticed that they didn't avoid her but deliberately turned towards them. She glared at Su Yushan, her red lips slightly curled, and she sneered:
"Looks like this mansion isn't big enough! What a small world, we've run into each other again."
Looking her over, Xi Lan clicked her tongue and said, "Sister Jin, you don't look too well lately! Your complexion is sallow and lifeless. You should take some tonics!"
Kim Min-jung was most concerned about her face; her exquisite features were her greatest asset. When Xi Lan commented that she looked unwell, she immediately became displeased and retorted:
"Before criticizing others, look in the mirror yourself. How beautiful do you think you are?"
Unable to stand it any longer, Su Yushan chimed in, "A person's beauty lies in their heart; only those with evil hearts are repulsive!"
Kim Min-jung, feeling mocked, raised an eyebrow and scoffed, "Su Yu-shan, who are you calling hateful?"
Su Yushan spread her hands innocently, "I didn't mention your name, why are you getting so worked up?"
She was clearly making a veiled attack! Jin Minjing trembled with anger and snorted coldly, "Don't be so smug in front of me. Men's hearts are fickle. Once Fourth Master gets tired of you, you'll be nothing."
Su Yushan had considered that possibility, but she would never be outdone by Jin Minjing, so she smiled indifferently.
Even if he gets tired of me, he'll only look for someone new, he won't come back to you. It's best to avoid having dreams, lest you wake up disappointed and heartbroken.
