Chapter 89 Unexpected Disaster

Unable to argue with Su Yushan, Jin Minjing turned to Xilan, glancing at her with her phoenix eyes and saying sarcastically, "Look at how Fourth Master goes to Huatang Pavilion every day, and Su Gege never even suggested that Fourth Master come to your place for a visit. What kind of good sister is that?"

Knowing that she was trying to sow discord, Xi Lan was not fooled and replied with an indifferent smile, "Where Fourth Master wants to go is his business, Yu Shan has no right to interfere. My good sister is favored, and I am only happy for her. I will not be jealous and resentful like some people. Be careful not to get wrinkles if you are so petty!"

Xi Lan's idea was exactly Su Yushan's idea. If Hongli wanted to go somewhere else, she couldn't stop him. If he didn't want to go, her persuasion was useless. Therefore, even though she had a good relationship with Xi Lan, she never took the initiative to suggest that Hongli go to see Xi Lan. He could go or not go as he pleased, and she was too lazy to waste her breath.

The two sisters share the same views, so there's no chance of any rift between them.

Instead of sowing discord, Jin Minjing was mocked, which made her even angrier. She pinched the cat in her arms hard. The Persian cat was startled and jumped aside with a meow. Xi Lan was startled and quickly backed away, afraid that her clothes would be torn by the cat's sharp claws.

Xilan, who was retreating, did not see anyone behind her and suddenly bumped into someone. She heard a scream behind her and then someone fell to the ground.

Xi Lan also tripped and fell. She clutched her wrist tightly in pain. Su Yushan quickly bent down to help her up. When Xi Lan stood up and glanced to the side, she was stunned and couldn't help but gasp!

The reason was simply because the person she bumped into was Kao Hsiu-wen!

Princess Gao is pregnant! How could she withstand being bumped by others?

Startled, Xilan ignored her own hand injury and rushed over to help her up, asking, "Sister, are you alright?"

Gao Xiuwen, who had fallen to the ground, was in so much pain that she broke out in a cold sweat and couldn't speak. She waved her hand to stop anyone from touching her, saying she needed to catch her breath.

Cui Ning was flustered and anxious. She glared at Xi Lan and scoffed, "Girl, you fell so hard, how can you be alright? How could you be so reckless, Princess Lan?"

"I...I didn't mean to," Xi Lan hurriedly explained. Gao Xiuwen, however, was in excruciating abdominal pain and had no intention of listening to her. She tightly gripped Cui Ning's hand and forced herself to give the order:

"Quick...quickly go and fetch a doctor!"

Now is not the time to assign blame; she only wants to protect the child in her womb.

Su Yushan sighed inwardly, realizing that Gao Gege was already five months pregnant and had fallen very hard. If anything happened to the child, Xi Lan would likely be held responsible.

Xi Lan was also extremely frightened, secretly praying that nothing would go wrong with Gao Xiuwen's child, otherwise she would be unable to clear her name no matter what.

Kim Min-jung, however, was gloating and really hoped that something would happen to Gao Xiu-wen. After all, she and Gao Xiu-wen had been favored by the emperor at the time, but now Gao Xiu-wen was pregnant while she wasn't. She was jealous, but because of her own situation, she had to fawn over Gao Xiu-wen against her will.

If Gao Xiuwen lost her child, she would feel more at peace. Besides, it was Xi Lan who hit the person, and Xi Lan would definitely be held accountable, which would mean she would have one less thorn in her side.

Princess Gao was the only pregnant maid in the mansion. Her accident terrified everyone in the mansion. The doctor quickly came to diagnose her. Since Hongli was not in the mansion, the servants hurriedly went out to look for her.

Worried, Xi Lan followed. The doctor wouldn't let anyone else in, so she and Su Yushan could only wait outside.

Xi Lan clutched the handkerchief in her hand, pacing back and forth, her face filled with undisguised anxiety. "Yu Shan, will Sister Gao's child be alright? If something happens to her, Fourth Master will definitely hold me accountable. What should I do?"

Su Yushan wasn't sure if Gao Xiuwen's child could be saved, because she had watched those palace dramas and then forgotten them. Qianlong had too many concubines, and she couldn't tell who was who, nor did she remember who the mother of his eldest son and daughter was.

She couldn't answer Xi Lan's question, so she could only offer words of comfort, "Gege Gao is already five months pregnant, and the fetus is stable. She should be able to avoid this trouble. Don't panic, let's see what the doctor has to say first."

"What exactly happened?" A loud shout suddenly came from outside the courtyard. Su Yushan turned around and saw that it was Hongli who had returned. He looked at Su Yushan with a serious expression, then turned his gaze to Xilan and questioned her sharply.

"Did you knock Xiuwen down?"

Xi Lan was terrified by his expression and replied in a panic, "Fourth Master, please let me explain. It was Princess Jin's cat that tried to catch me. When I dodged, I accidentally bumped into Sister Gao. It wasn't intentional."

She spoke so lightly, but Hongli's eyes flashed with a cold light, his voice icy and indifferent, "You think you can shirk responsibility with just a 'slip of the tongue'?"

“I feel guilty for hurting Sister Gao, but I’m really not trying to shirk responsibility! If that cat hadn’t suddenly jumped over, I wouldn’t have had to back down.”

She kept mentioning cats, which Hongli found absurd. "You mean it's all the cat's fault, and I should blame a cat?"

Xi Lan was speechless and looked helplessly at Su Yushan. Just as Su Yushan was about to speak up, the person inside stumbled out and reported in a panicked voice.

"Fourth Master, something terrible has happened! The doctor says the princess's child cannot be saved!"

Upon hearing this, Hongli's heart sank. He no longer cared about settling scores with Xilan and went straight into the house.

Xi Lan was completely terrified, her body went limp, and she almost fainted. Su Yushan quickly supported her and led her to sit down on the porch.

But she was terrified and couldn't sit still, fearing that Hongli would punish her.

"What should I do? Princess Gao's child is gone. Fourth Master will definitely blame me. Yu Shan, I'm finished! I'm really finished!"

"Don't be afraid, the main responsibility is not yours, I will help you clear things up."

Su Yushan was present throughout the entire process and saw everything most clearly. She believed that Xilan was innocent, but Xilan understood that she could no longer extricate herself from this matter. Hongli did not favor her, and he would not make a fair judgment. All he cared about was Gao Xiuwen's pregnancy.
