Chapter Thirty-Four: Caught in a Trap

If these two quarrel, the master's days will be difficult again. For the sake of the master, Chang Yue couldn't help but offer a few words of advice.

She should have just kept quiet; the mere mention of the matter only made Su Yushan more agitated. "You be the judge, is this my fault? I didn't know Zheng Lin would be in the western suburbs today. What right does he have to suspect me?"

“Your Highness is certainly not wrong. Fourth Master cares about you too much, which is why he is overthinking things.”

"That's called distrust, being suspicious. Don't use caring as an excuse."

Chang Yue sighed inwardly, "Your Highness, you are innocent, but to be fair, you are just too stubborn and speak too bluntly. Men are easily swayed. It's obvious that Fourth Master wants to hear you say something gentle. If you take the initiative to go to him and tell him that you have forgotten Young Master Zheng and that you only have Fourth Master in your heart, Fourth Master will definitely calm down and will no longer suspect anything."

Isn't that obvious? "I'm already his maid, how could I possibly have feelings for someone else?"

Logically speaking, no, but Master's situation is special! She once had a fiancé, which is a knot in Fourth Master's heart. "That's because you had a conflict with Fourth Master before you lost your memory because of Young Master Zheng. Fourth Master is inevitably uneasy. It's not enough for you to be sure yourself. You have to tell him."

She had already assured him, but now he's suspicious again. "Even if I told him, he wouldn't believe me."

“You’re not saying it the right way!” Chang Yue patiently taught her, “Speak softly and gently, and Fourth Master will definitely not be able to blame you anymore.”

He was the one who lost his temper first, so why should she have to coax him? Su Yushan believed she hadn't done anything wrong and refused to stoop to please Hongli.

“I’m not going. Let him think what he wants. It’s none of my business, and I don’t want to.”

Inside the study, Hongli was in a state of turmoil. He wondered if he was being too sensitive, but Yushan's reaction today was really strange. Moreover, she had never clearly expressed her feelings for him, only saying that she considered him a friend, which made Hongli feel very frustrated.

This woman was always testing his patience. This time, he was unwilling to coax her again, so he stayed in the study that night and did not go to Tingfeng Pavilion.

Feeling depressed, he drank some wine alone, and feeling a little dizzy, he stopped reading and went to his tent to rest early.

Half-asleep, Hongli vaguely heard the sound of a door opening. The footsteps were light and didn't seem like a man's. He opened his eyes in surprise and, through the dim candlelight, vaguely saw the figure of a woman.

His eyes were blurry and he couldn't see clearly until she got closer, then he could see her face clearly. "Yushan? What brings you here?"

The moment Hongli saw her, he was surprised. The two of them had been arguing at noon, and given her temper, she would never back down. Why would she suddenly come to find him?

She fiddled with the hem of her dress, her red lips slightly pursed, and she said softly with her head lowered, "I can't sleep without you by my side."

Perhaps he was still under the influence of alcohol, because her voice sounded somewhat ethereal and elusive. Hongli was quite relieved, but on the surface he remained indifferent and said coldly, "Don't you know why I won't go?"

"Isn't it all because of Zheng Lin? I've already explained it to you, why won't you believe me?"

Recalling the harsh words she had said to him on the day she first entered the house, Hongli was consumed by jealousy. "You and he were childhood sweethearts, but you only treat me as a friend. How can I trust you?"

Twisting her index finger, Su Yushan stole a glance at him, blushed, and said softly, "I did treat you as a friend before, but people aren't plants or trees, how can they be without feelings? As we've spent more time together, I've found that my feelings for you have slowly changed."

Realizing what she might say next, Hongli asked expectantly, "Oh? How will it turn out?"

Embarrassed, she spoke in a barely audible voice, scolding, "You clearly know the answer, so why ask when you already know the answer?"

Knowing is one thing, but some things only have meaning if she says them herself. "How can I understand your thoughts if you don't explain them clearly?"

She bit her lip, hesitated for a long time, and then said shyly, "I've realized... I think I might like you a little."

Upon hearing her statement, Hongli was momentarily dazed, thinking he was hallucinating. "Is this really true?"

“I told you I wouldn’t lie to you,” Su Yushan said, tugging at his hand outside the quilt, hooking his little finger around it, and softly saying, “You are my husband. There will be no one else in my heart but you. Please don’t be angry with me anymore, okay?”

"You say you like it, but I can't tell." Hongli pressed his advantage, repeatedly hinting at his feelings, leaving Su Yushan feeling awkward.

"Then how can you feel it?"

He took her hand in return and smiled meaningfully, "That depends on your performance."

After hesitating for a moment, Su Yushan slowly leaned down, mustered her courage, and placed her soft lips on his, pouring out her tenderness and striving to let him feel her heart.

She actually kissed him first? This long-awaited scene suddenly came true, and Hongli was overjoyed, even wondering if it was a dream. But the tingling sensation from her kiss felt so real, it couldn't be fake, could it?

With a slight thought, he decided to take the initiative, cover her on top of him, and cherish her. However, the moment he turned over, his body lost its support and suddenly became suspended in mid-air. Hongli immediately woke up and was shocked to find that there was no one beside him when he opened his eyes again. Su Yushan was not there at all!

So everything just now was just a beautiful dream?

With a wry smile, Hongli secretly scoffed at himself for overthinking things. How could someone as proud as Su Yushan possibly take the initiative to say those tender and affectionate words to him?

What he thought of as a little kitten was just his perception; Su Yushan was tough at heart! She was anything but soft.

Returning to his tent, Hongli felt a void in his heart. He had intended to deliberately ignore her, to let her experience what it was like without him, but now, it seemed that he was the one who was suffering...

Even though it was unbearable, he had to endure it and not go to her. However, the next day, around noon, Li Yu suddenly came to report...

"Master, something has happened to Princess Su!"

Su Yushan had no appetite today and wanted to eat something sour, so she sent someone to pick tomatoes in the back garden. Unfortunately, it was already autumn and there were very few tomatoes left, only five or six. The servant picked them all.

Unfortunately, Jin Minjing witnessed this scene. Upon seeing that he was from Tingfeng Pavilion, Jin Minjing immediately grabbed him and took him to Tingfeng Pavilion to question him.

Hearing the commotion, Su Yushan, who was busy in the tea room, thought it was the servant returning and went out to ask, "How is it? How many did you pick?"

The servant was trembling, and behind him stood a woman, none other than Princess Jin!

Today, Kim Min-jung wore a lake-blue double-breasted cloak with a white dragon pendant around her neck, and with her chin slightly raised, she exuded an air of arrogance.

As soon as she entered Tingfeng Pavilion, she caught a glimpse of a thin knife in Su Yushan's hand. Shocked, she went inside and was surprised to find that the tea room had been renovated.

As if she had discovered something extraordinary, Kim Min-jung's eyes widened, and she sneered solemnly, "Su Yu-shan, how dare you set up a private kitchen in the backyard!"
