"What are you doing?" Hongli asked, but she did not answer. "Fourth Master, please wait a moment."
Following Su Gege's instructions, Li Yu dared not delay and quickly brought over a bowl of water.
Su Yushan then reluctantly left the tent, and Hongli quickly stepped forward to help her, saying, "What are you looking for? I'll get it for you."
She ignored them, walked slowly forward, found the sewing basket, took out a pair of sharp scissors, then turned back to the small table, placed the scissors on the pad of her index finger, aimed at the bowl of water, and made a cut.
Her fingers were in excruciating pain, but she endured it and then said to Hongli, "Stretch out your hand."
Seeing this, Hongli realized something, but he didn't understand what Su Yushan meant by this. "Yushan, what do you want?"
He refused to extend his hand, so she grabbed his hand directly and, without hesitation, quickly made a cut, causing Hongli's blood to drip into the bowl.
He found this very strange: "We are husband and wife, why should we bleed?"
"Fourth Master, please take a look."
Hongli lowered his gaze and saw that the two drops of blood in the clear water remained separate and did not mix together, which was normal. "You and I are not related by blood, so of course our blood will not mix."
She didn't argue, but simply told him to wait patiently and continue watching.
Before long, a miraculous scene unfolded! Their blood gradually began to merge together!
In that instant, Hongli's dark eyes widened, and his face turned green! "You...you wouldn't happen to be Father Emperor's illegitimate daughter, would you?"
"..." Su Yushan was filled with anger, but upon hearing this, she was both angry and amused.
"What nonsense are you thinking? You and I are not related by blood at all. I just want to tell you that the blood of any two people in this world can mix together in water. The idea of blood-drop kinship testing is a fallacy and cannot prove that the two are related at all."
"How could that be?" This conclusion completely overturned Hongli's understanding. "It is clearly recorded in Song Ci's 'Records of Injustice Rectified'."
"The bone-dripping method recorded in 'The Washing Away of Wrongs' is also unreliable. When the deceased is young, the bones are smooth, and even the blood of one's own son cannot be dripped in. However, if the deceased is old, the bones are already porous, and then anyone's blood can be dripped in. Neither the so-called blood-dripping method nor the bone-dripping method can accurately verify whether two people are related by blood."
The water was brought by Li Yu, and Li Yu couldn't have tampered with it. His blood and Yu Shan's blood had indeed mingled together, which Hongli witnessed with his own eyes. There was no way it was fake. This result was surprising, but what puzzled him even more was why Yu Shan had shown him all this.
Turning his gaze away, Hongli coughed lightly and said, feigning calmness, "Why are you suddenly talking about medicine?"
Slowly raising her eyes, Su Yushan looked directly at him and said solemnly, "I just want to tell you that it is absurd for Fourth Master to use these methods to verify whether he is the father of the child!"
So she found out after all! Hongli had been trying to hide it, but now it seems he couldn't hide it anymore!
His eyes flickered, clearly showing his guilt. Su Yushan felt extremely bitter, as if she had swallowed a bitter pill, but instead sneered, "Is Fourth Master starting to suspect again? Whose child is he anyway?"
After being mocked, Hongli came to his senses and confessed, "I had no doubt. I knew it was my child!"
"No suspicion? Then why did you cut the child's finger and make him give you a blood test to prove kinship? You always said you trusted me, and is that what you meant by trusting me?" The thought of that scene made her feel utterly humiliated, and her heart ached so much she could hardly breathe.
"Let me tell you clearly, the blood test method is invalid. There is no way in this world to accurately verify whether two people are related by blood. If you still have doubts, you can send my son and me away to avoid confusing your royal bloodline!"
Hongli was extremely sensitive to these words, and his face immediately darkened. "Su Yushan, what do you mean by that? Do you want to leave me again?"
"I never thought about leaving; you're just being paranoid!" That's just her straightforward nature; a lie is a lie, and she would never lie just to gain his trust.
"The blood test is fake. It won't put your mind at ease. You'll continue to doubt me for the rest of your life, doubting my affair with someone else and the origins of this child!"
"I never doubted you and the child. I said that in anger, but I know very well in my heart that you are mine, you have no ulterior motives, and the child is mine too." Hongli's attitude was firm. Su Yushan didn't want to see him pretending and questioned him directly.
"I'm only asking you, did you have someone cut the child's finger?"
"It was the order I gave, but it wasn't my intention." Seeing that Yu Shan's misunderstanding of him was getting deeper and deeper, if he didn't clarify things soon, things might get out of control.
Left with no other choice, Hongli had to tell the truth, "Actually, it's because of my mother... Five months ago, she pried open the mouth of the secret guards around me and found out that you had run away from home for two months. She then suspected that the child in your womb was not mine and wanted to abort the child."
At that time, to save you and the child, I had no other choice but to tell my mother to wait until the child was born and a blood test could be done to determine the paternity. That was a desperate measure, a delaying tactic to protect you and the child, not because I doubted you.”
After learning the whole story, Su Yushan was shocked. So many things had happened without her knowledge. "Why did you never mention this to me?"
Picking up a handkerchief from the table, Hongli carefully wiped away the bloodstains still dripping from her fingertips, saying as he did so:
“Your pregnancy has been unstable, and your mother’s suspicions are too hurtful. If I tell you, you will definitely feel bad, and what if it harms your health? So I have never mentioned it. Even the blood test was done secretly without your knowledge. I just want to get this over with as soon as possible and wipe away your mother’s suspicions.”
