Chapter 28: Clearing Up Misunderstandings
She bent at a very standard angle, a respectful 90-degree angle.
Ning Che was stunned by the sudden apology. For over twenty years, he had been accustomed to watching from the sidelines, mocking and even engaging in swordplay. Even the servants' servility stemmed from a fear of his power.
It was the first time he received such a sincere apology, and he was a little overwhelmed for a moment.
The teacup in his hand shook, and the orange-yellow liquid swirled around the rim. Just as it was about to spill over the edge of the cup, he quickly grasped the teacup.
"Don't, actually, you don't have to..."
A faint pink appeared on his cheeks, and he looked embarrassed for the first time, and his words began to stutter.
Fu Chengyun's evil deeds were certainly true, but he himself wasn't a good person either. His deliberate words were indeed seven parts sincere and bitter, but the remaining three parts were exaggeration, malicious slander, and superb acting.
He glanced hurriedly at Lizi and Chen He. Both of them looked moved, with pity in their eyes almost overflowing.
Ning Che suddenly felt guilty towards Fu Chengyun.
Forget it, I've already said it! If you don't want others to know, then don't do it yourself!
Lizi said solemnly: "It turns out that you have suffered so much following Brother Cheng Yun. I'm sorry, I didn't know. If you really can't bear it and want to leave, I can help you." She wanted to pat Ning Che's shoulder soothingly, but her hand stretched out in the air and then fell down.
Bie said awkwardly: "Brother Cheng Yun has always been polite and well-mannered. He must have resorted to such means to keep you."
Her voice gradually lowered, ending in a thick sob. "It seems he really does love you. Which means I had absolutely no hope from the beginning."
She stood in front of Ning Che blankly, with her head down, tears dripping from her eyes onto the floor.
Chen He walked over, put his arm around her shoulders, and winked at Ning Che.
In the adult world, there's no such thing as absolute irreconcilability. There's only relative mutual benefit. Especially for wealthy aristocrats like these, the complexities of the situation are so complex that even a single move can affect the entire situation. It's definitely not something that can be resolved with a single argument or an apology.
Ning Che is very smart and naturally knows this well.
He patted the seat beside him and looked at Lizzie with a raised eyebrow. "Don't cry, three-legged frogs are hard to find, but two-legged people are also hard to find! The world is so big, why bother hanging yourself on a tree?"
"Besides, Fu Chengyun is so annoying. If it were you, a little girl from a different family, you would have been bullied to the point of hanging yourself long ago."
"Ah? Really?" The two girls seemed to have heard some secrets, and they all looked at Ning Che and said in unison.
Being stared at by two pairs of curious eyes, Ning Che's mouth twitched.
As expected, no one doesn’t like to hear gossip, especially when it comes to bosses.
Lizzie's sadness turned into joy in an instant. She grabbed his arm with both hands, shaking it and urging him. "Tell me quickly, how did I bully you?"
Even the steady and dignified Chen He couldn't help but speak up: "Xiao Che, don't be embarrassed. How can I go and talk to Cheng Yun if you don't tell me?"
Their gazes grew increasingly intense, tinged with excitement. The corners of their mouths curled upwards, as they tried their best to suppress the excitement of prying into someone else's bedroom.
Ning Che felt the hairs on his body stand on end. In this environment where the temperature averaged 25 degrees Celsius between spring and summer, he actually felt a chill.
"Ah, that's it..."
His mind was racing as he considered whether he should escape quickly or confess and get a lighter sentence.
"Uncle is just bullying pretty uncle. He has so many lychees but he doesn't eat them. He just wants to snatch the one in pretty uncle's mouth." A childish voice came from Ning Che's arms, and Ning Che's heart finally died.
The fair face suddenly turned red, and the bleeding tips of the ears were more vivid than the red of lychees.
The two women screamed, cupped the little boy's cheeks and kissed him fiercely. Chen He praised him, "Good son, what else did you see?"
"Hmm~" Little White Ball bit his finger as if thinking, "It's just that at night when we go to bed, uncle refuses to go to his own room and insists on squeezing into pretty uncle's bed. And at night, he keeps squeezing pretty uncle and won't move no matter how hard I kick him."
"Wow~" The two women looked at Ning Che deeply with crazy smiles on their faces.
"Anything else?"
"Yeah!" Jia'er was held in Chen He's arms, and Lizi peeled the lychees and handed them to him. The two of them guarded Ning Che and Jia'er on either side, their mouths almost grinning to their earlobes.
Ning Che rolled his eyes. It was equally embarrassing to say one thing or ten thousand things like that.
At this point, he didn't care anymore. He raised his butt and tried to leave, but the two women pulled him back to his seat.
"Don't go. Let's chat!"
"That's right! Jia'er, tell me quickly."
Little White Tuanzi stuffed a lychee in his mouth and mumbled, "It was when my handsome uncle came to pick me up that my uncle called the bodyguards and told them not to let us go out, especially my handsome uncle."
"You're so bad. Why is Cheng Yun like this?" Chen He touched Ning Che's head and comforted him.
"Yeah, and my uncle seemed to have said that my pretty uncle was a scumbag and that he hated him the most. When my pretty uncle came to settle the score with him, he held her hand tightly and refused to let go, smiling shamelessly." Jia'er was filled with righteous indignation, waving her hands around. "My pretty uncle is such a good person, but my uncle is really going too far."
Lizi burst into laughter, nearly falling off her chair as she leaned back. Ning Che pulled her aside speechlessly.
Chen He tapped Jia'er's little head and said with a smile: "Your uncle is just acting like a spoiled child with the pretty uncle!"
"Hahaha! Brother Cheng Yun is really a very sexy guy. You're right. If it were me, I really wouldn't like him."
"Then what kind do you like?" Ning Che finally got the chance and changed the subject in time.
Lizzie actually started to think about it. "I like people who are gentle and kind on the outside, but domineering and cold on the inside."
"The kind where I can push you against the wall and forcefully kiss you?" Chen He continued.
The two looked at each other and laughed. Ning Che just wanted to go upstairs and sleep.
"Oh! That's right. It's not a good idea for you to be confined every day. I'll call him and put in a few good words for you so he can let you out for some fresh air."
"Okay!" Ning Che finally heard a human voice. His eyes lit up instantly, and he looked at Chen He as if she were his savior.
Chen He immediately dialed Fu Chengyun's number, and a low voice came out from the receiver.
"sister."
"Cheng Yun, I'm at your house. Why don't you let Xiao Che go out?" Chen He was using the hands-free mode, and Lizi, Ning Che, and even Jia'er in her arms fell silent automatically.
The person on the other end of the phone chuckled, seeming a little embarrassed. "He's always causing trouble. I'm worried about letting him go out alone."
Lizi covered her mouth and laughed secretly. Chen He teased, "Even if your wife is beautiful, you don't have to hide her like this. How about this, Lizi and I are here today, so it's a good opportunity to take Xiao Che and the child out for a walk to relax."
"Lizzie is here too?"
"Um."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, and then Fu Chengyun said, "Okay, bring more bodyguards. I'll pick him up after get off work."
"Yeah, don't worry." Chen He hung up the phone and met Ning Che's incredulous eyes. "Why are you standing there? Go change your clothes."
The person on the other end of the phone frowned and stared at the coffee cup on the desk in a daze.
A simple phone call contains a deadly amount of information.
Li Zi had always been at odds with Ning Che. Her sudden appearance at his house was definitely an attempt to cause trouble for Ning Che. And Chen He was there, so she was sure she could maneuver between the two. And with Ning Che's skill, he wouldn't be at a disadvantage.
Chen He's tone sounded relaxed and cheerful. They must have had a great conversation, so they traveled together.
His knuckles tapped lightly on the edge of the nanmu table, and a faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
What method did this little fox use to win over Lizi so completely? Even Chen He, who rarely interferes in other people's affairs, would call to plead for him.
His gaze moved from far to near, and met Assistant Lin who pushed the door open.
"Mr. Fu, all the board members are here. The meeting will start in five minutes."
"Okay." Fu Chengyun walked to the window.
The wind on the thirty-second floor was slightly chilly, and the air still retained the scent of dew from a night of silence.
He took a deep breath, and a coolness seeped into his lungs. It was far less fragrant than his roses.
The old foxes on the board of directors are already in place. If he fails and Fu Chen intervenes, those cunning people will definitely choose to side with him without hesitation.
The foundation that he had worked so hard to establish in the Fu family would definitely be shaken.
His index and middle fingers hanging at his sides were slightly curled up as he lit another cigarette.
White smoke curled up amidst the flickering sparks, and the acrid smell of burning tobacco filled his nostrils. Fu Chengyun's brow furrowed as he lifted the cigarette box from the coffee table and examined it closely. It was undoubtedly the brand he had always used.
But today the smell of tobacco seemed different. My cravings were insatiable, and the annoyance in my heart hadn't lessened in the slightest.
He stubbed out his cigarette in the dark blue glass ashtray.
Fortunately, Fu Chen and Fu Linyu were concentrating on dealing with him, so the little fox was safe.
He suddenly recalled the moment when Fu Chen had pressured him to sign the prenuptial agreement. The undisguised disdain and sneer on his face was like a silent declaration of war. A simple smile had made Fu Chen's face turn ashen, gloomy like the oppression before a storm. Yet, the man remained seated on the sofa, his demeanor unyielding, neither humble nor overbearing. He refused to yield, seemingly possessing the ability to defy all odds.
The sun rises, and the golden sunlight shines through the clouds, giving each cloud a golden edge.
Fu Chengyun squinted his eyes and watched. Only the brilliance and warmth of the morning glow was worthy of his little fox.
If I take him with me, he might just say, "I quit!" and walk away without even bothering to look at me.
The office door was knocked again, and Assistant Lin's voice came from outside the door.
Fu Chengyun picked up the folder on the desk and strode out, the tension in his brows relieved a lot.
