Chapter 3 Onboarding

Chapter 3 Onboarding

Bo Wei stood by the table, silently watching the doorway.

Ji Mingxiu opened the door and walked in, wearing a white T-shirt and black casual trousers; he was tall with long legs.

He has thick black hair, styled in a messy yet fashionable side part, and possesses a handsome appearance and a gentle demeanor.

I just got off work, carrying a black laptop bag in my hand.

With a gentle smile on his face, he asked as he changed his shoes, "What did you make today? It smells delicious."

"Stir-fried celery with beef. You said eating beef won't make you fat," Bo Wei replied with a light smile, then turned and went into the kitchen.

Ji Mingxiu quickly stepped forward, placed the laptop bag on the sofa, and followed her into the kitchen.

"Let me serve the food." He glanced at Bo Wei's retreating figure as she served the rice, then turned on the tap to wash his hands.

"Mm." Bo Wei nodded, served him the rice.

Ji Mingxiu casually flicked the water droplets off his hand and took the food.

Bo Wei took two pairs of chopsticks and followed behind him.

The two sat down facing each other. After tasting the dishes, Ji Mingxiu looked approving and said, "Not bad, very delicious. Your cooking skills have improved again."

"Then eat more." Bo Wei also started eating, her movements elegant and graceful, her voice gentle and calm. "What would you like to eat tomorrow?"

Ji Mingxiu paused in his eating, sat up straight, looked at her, and said earnestly, "Buy something you like to eat. You don't have to keep thinking about me. Weiwei, I don't want you to always feel like you owe me something and then think of me in every way."

Bo Wei smiled slightly after a moment, "Okay."

The atmosphere between the two became unusually quiet in an instant, as if an invisible net of shackles bound them together.

Ji Mingxiu broke the silence with a gentle tone, "I have to go on a business trip tomorrow and won't be back for a week or two. You need to eat well even if you're alone. If you want to go out to eat, invite Yu Yan and the others. Don't come back too late at night, and don't open the door if strangers knock. Call me if you need anything."

Bo Wei listened attentively and nodded. "Okay, I understand."

A simple back-and-forth conversation concluded the communication.

Bo Wei lowered her eyes to eat, trying to say something, but her mind was blank. She couldn't think of a topic, or even a word, like someone whose language system hadn't fully developed. This made her a little annoyed and anxious.

Ji Mingxiu ate quickly. After finishing, he stood up and said, "I'll go wash the dishes today."

Bo Wei quickly stood up and bent down to take the empty bowl from his hand. "It's okay, I'll take it. It's just a few bowls. You just got off work, take a break."

Ji Mingxiu watched her retreating figure in silence for a moment before turning around.

When Bo Wei came out of the kitchen, there was no one in the living room, and the computer on the sofa was gone.

Looking at Ji Mingxiu's tightly closed door, she sighed helplessly.

How do couples actually get along?

She didn't know, but it certainly wasn't like her and Ji Mingxiu's relationship—gentle and polite, respectful yet distant.

Their relationship stagnated, and it was not even as natural and harmonious as when Ji Mingxiu had pursued her passionately and fervently before.

Forget it, she's not good at dating. I should focus on finding a job first and paying off the debts I incurred from my illness. We can worry about the rest later.

She took a deep breath, went back to her room, sat down at her computer, and opened her email.

She had extinguished any illusions she had about the Li Group; how could a miracle possibly happen to her...?

Her gaze lingered on the computer email interface, her thoughts abruptly halting.

In her inbox, an unread job offer from the Li Group's Human Resources Department drew all her attention.

She got it?

How is that possible?

How... is that possible?

Bo Wei suppressed her racing heartbeat, her trembling fingertips clicking the mouse as she quickly opened the email and read it carefully.

A pair of quiet and slightly tired eyes slowly regained their vitality and became lively and cheerful as they quickly scanned the emails.

After the initial excitement, a return to calm follows.

But her entire mindset has undergone a tremendous change...

The wobbly table is no longer so annoying.

The laptop's cooling system is also much quieter now.

She carefully considered her words and, after thorough review, confirmed her employment.

...

The city awakens in the morning light.

The intricate traffic system is like the city's blood vessels, and the constant flow of vehicles and people is like the flowing blood, which infuses the city with vitality.

The Li Group Building stands majestically in the morning light, its grandeur setting it apart from other high-end office buildings and highlighting its unique status.

People kept flowing in, full of vitality.

Those entering and leaving this building, regardless of gender, were all dressed smartly.

Bo Wei glanced down at her white shirt and suit skirt before walking towards the building.

I showed my job offer to the security guard and was allowed to enter.

The lobby is luxurious and elegant, and even the two receptionists are very beautiful and poised.

Today was her first day at the company, and she arrived half an hour early, but she didn't expect there to be so many people.

With more than twenty elevators running at the same time, there was a long queue outside. Bo Wei walked to the back of the shorter queue and joined the line.

Xu Xiangying gently nudged Zhou Yang beside her.

Zhou Yang looked at her in confusion, while Xu Xiangying winked at her excitedly, silently saying, "Top beauty."

She looked in Xu Xiangying's direction, paused slightly, and couldn't take her eyes off her.

The Li Group is full of beautiful women, and even Lin Fangfei in the office is no less beautiful and elegant than popular young actresses, but such a stunning and unique beauty is still a rare sight.

She stood there, and at a glance, everyone around her looked like little yellow people, as if she had turned on a whitening filter.

Bo Wei looked ahead calmly, accustomed to the scrutinizing gazes around her. Having been away from work for a long time, she felt a little nervous.

The elevator came down and slowly opened. It was empty. People in line hurriedly but orderly entered the elevator, and Bo Wei followed them in.

Upon reaching the floor where the Human Resources Department was located, Bo Wei stepped aside and politely said to the person in front of her, "Excuse me, may I pass by?"

A gentle female voice rang in her ears, and the two people in front of her quickly squeezed to the side, making a small passage for her.

Bo Wei walked away with steady steps, the elevator doors slowly closing behind her blocking the gazes that silently fell upon her slender figure.

After completing her onboarding at the Human Resources Department, the HR staff couldn't help but glance at her frequently. "Your onboarding is done, and I'll call you when your employee badge is ready. Now, I'll take you to see Assistant General Manager Jiang; he's the one who will be responsible for assigning you your specific tasks."

Bo Wei followed beside her, walking towards the elevator, watching her swipe her card and press the floor button.

The HR person looked at her in the elevator mirror. "President Li's office area is a three-story building. You work on the lower floor, President Li works on the middle floor, and the top floor should be President Li's lounge area. No one has been there."

"And your employee ID card. Let me tell you, it's the access card for entering the company and also the elevator card. You have to swipe the card to access President Li's office area. You need to keep it safe."

"good."

"Also, the company provides free lunch. The cafeteria has three floors with a wide variety of dishes, and the taste is comparable to that of a star-rated restaurant. They don't wait for you if you miss a meal, so just go on your own when it's time to eat. Since it's your first day, ask a colleague to show you around, and you'll get used to it."

"Okay, thank you."
