Chapter 22 Care and Goodwill
After the police finished their phone call with Zhou Zhenxing, they told Su Jin, "You can leave now. We will contact you after we arrest Zhao Zhihu."
Su Jin first thanked him, and then said, "Officer, I was originally going to find my husband, so after you catch Zhao Zhihu, could you contact my husband?"
The police officer thought for a moment and nodded, "It's a bit troublesome, but it's acceptable."
After all, it's still uncertain when they'll be caught, and it's not realistic to keep Su Jin at home waiting for news.
In the eyes of the police, Su Jin was clearly the weaker party in their marital relationship, and it was understandable that she wanted to get back to her husband as soon as possible to salvage their relationship.
Relieved by the police's confirmation, Su Jin walked out of the police station with Wang Baozhu.
It was already pitch black outside.
"Su Jin, let's go back first," Wang Baozhu said as he prepared to get into the car.
Today has been a truly thrilling day. He's exhausted, hungry, and cold, and all he wants is to get home as soon as possible.
Su Jin stood still without moving. "Uncle Wang, I won't go back."
Wang Baozhu paused for a moment, then stared at her.
Su Jin explained, "Anyway, I'll have to take the bus from the county town, and I'll have to come back here to get back to the village."
Wang Baozhu asked with concern, "But what are you going to do tonight?"
"I can just find a place to spend the night. Besides, if I go back, my mother-in-law will definitely ask, and then it will be hard to explain."
Su Jin's meaning was clear: she didn't want Liu Guizhi to know about this.
Wang Baozhu frowned deeply. "It's not safe for a woman like you to be alone at night."
Su Jin insisted, "It's okay, I might be able to find someone to stay with near the police station."
"Are you sure everything's okay?" Wang Baozhu was still worried.
Su Jin replied confidently, "No problem."
Seeing her determined expression, Wang Baozhu knew he couldn't persuade her otherwise, so he had no choice but to agree.
"Uncle Wang, about today's events..."
"Don't worry, I won't tell your mother-in-law."
Wang Baozhu looked at her with a kind and loving gaze.
Su Jin: "Thank you, Uncle Wang."
Wang Baozhu had already gripped the tractor crank, but after thinking for a moment, he looked up again and earnestly instructed, "Girl, be careful on the road. If Zhou Zhenxing treats you badly after we get there, tell your mother-in-law."
Su Jin nodded.
Soon she was the only one left in the spot.
The streets were deserted and dark, and the temperature was even lower at night than during the day. Even wearing a padded coat and trousers, I could feel the cold wind seeping into my body.
She picked up her only bag, turned around, and went back into the police station.
The police officer in charge of the case was about to grab a bite to eat when he looked up and saw her back.
"Is there anything else?"
Su Jin said apologetically, "Could I stay here for the night? I'll leave as soon as I get a ride tomorrow morning."
The police immediately understood her meaning and, of course, would not refuse her small request.
"Yes, that's possible, but we don't have any beds here."
A grateful smile appeared on Su Jin's rosy face, which was red from the cold. "No need for a bed, a chair is enough."
The police not only gave her a chair, but also shared some of their dinner with her.
Sympathy for one person is enough to inspire all their care and goodwill.
Su Jin did this perfectly and took advantage of it.
