Chapter 5
Chapter Five
Meng Yingying lay in bed, completely unaware of what was to come, but she felt that Li Zhaodi and Zhou Runsheng would be a crucial turning point.
She got up, walked to her desk, picked up a brush, took out a piece of paper, and tried to write something, even a little bit.
The ink spread across the paper as she wrote with great force, leaving a deep black dot on the white paper.
She covered her head with her hands: "Remember, remember quickly."
What are you thinking about?
A voice suddenly rang out.
Meng Yingying felt a chill run down her spine. Shang Mang sat on the table and pulled out the papers from under her. Meng Yingying was caught off guard and he snatched them away. Shang Mang immediately saw a name.
Meng Yingying realized what was happening, reached out and pulled the paper back, saying, "It's nothing."
Shang Mang crossed his arms and looked at her, giving a fake smile: "Because I wanted to kill you, I didn't sleep a wink all night."
Meng Yingying was immediately at a loss. She looked at him and asked, "Why did you want to kill me?"
Shang Mang tilted his head, and the gold leaf by his ear fell to the side with his movement. He narrowed his eyes: "Have you changed your mind? What story are you going to make up this time? You're a very good liar."
"The story of that girl from yesterday isn't over yet. Do you want to continue reading?" Meng Yingying appeared calm, but her lips were clenched tightly.
"What are you looking at?"
"Let's see if she dies next," she said. Shang Mang looked at her. It was too dark to see clearly last night, but today it was bright. She was as thin as a rake. The large Taoist robe on her body made her look even smaller. She had a bun on her head with a wooden hairpin sticking out crookedly. She looked as thin as a dying blade of grass. She had dark circles under her eyes, but her eyes shone brightly.
Suddenly intrigued, Shang Mang bowed and said, "Alright."
"The road ahead is long, so be careful with your life." His fingertips touched the skin; it was cold.
Meng Yingying closed her eyes. There was a pungent smell in front of her, and blood mist was spreading in the air.
He disappeared.
They always appear and disappear without a trace, just like ghosts.
Meng Yingying breathed slowly; the pungent smell lingered in the room, a testament to his recent arrival. Her expression calmed; she tapped the table, quietly wondering if he might be the ultimate villain...
...
After walking through Seven Turns Alley, Li Zhaodi returned home with her cart. She closed the door behind her, but heard cursing coming from inside. Li Zhaodi pushed the door open forcefully.
“Father!” she cried.
In the cramped courtyard, Li Youde kicked the woman on the ground hard in the stomach and walked up to Li Zhaodi: "Where's the money!"
Li Zhaodi shakily handed him the purse from her waist. Li Youde spat and said, "This is all? Can't you use your face a little more?"
"Father, I will earn more tomorrow," Li Zhaodi said, not daring to say anything else.
Li Youde took the money and walked out.
Li Zhaodi walked to the woman's side, her eyes reddening: "Mother."
The woman on the ground blinked, her body a bloody mess, and she groaned in pain.
Zhao Qiao'er was helped up and walked step by step into the house: "Mother, are you hungry? I'll cook for you."
The woman pushed her away, her tone sharp: "If you weren't a girl, how could I have become like this?" Her voice lacked strength, but it was sarcastic, though it was unclear who she was mocking.
Li Zhaodi lowered her head, and the woman turned back and said, "I've made some food, it's still hot, you go and eat first." Zhaodi looked at her hunched back and the bleeding from her feet as she walked. Sometimes she felt that her mother loved her, and sometimes she felt that her mother didn't love her that much.
