Chapter 108 Returning the Tractor

He doesn't lack money, he lacks human connections.

He then stuffed the money back into his hand.

With a stern face, he said, "Sir, you're making me feel bad. If you keep doing this, I won't bother you next time I have something good. I only want to be nice to you because you're so kind, like a real uncle to me!"

Zhong Quanyong was deeply moved; his eyes truly welled up with tears. This was far better than that nephew of some so-called director!

I'll go back to my nephew's place later and see if there's anything good for Xiao Lu to take back.

Lu Yuan made a good impression on Grandpa Zhong, left a bundle of green beans and a bunch of vegetables, and then went to the factory director's office with his basket on his back. He told the five people to wait downstairs.

I knocked on the door and only went in after hearing a "come in" gesture.

"Uncle Jiang, I've come to see you!"

Then he put down the basket, which contained a wild rabbit, a pheasant, two pounds of roe deer meat, a bundle of green beans, a bunch of vegetables, and ten pears.

"Uncle, there's only one pheasant left, and only this much roe deer meat. I've brought it all to you; no one else has any."

Jiang Haishan immediately understood; he was the only one who possessed the pheasant and the roe deer, and he couldn't tell Zhong and Wang about it.

"Thank you, Uncle!"

He put the things away, preparing to take them home in a little while.

Lu Yuan then pointed to the pears and said, "These are wild pears from the mountain. They're from the very top of the tree, where the sun shines brightly. They're the sweetest. I climbed up there with a lot of effort to pick them, and I saved them especially for you. Try them, they're guaranteed to be sweet."

Jiang Haishan's mouth was practically stretched to his ears in a wide grin; he felt incredibly pleased.

"Xiao Lu, thank you, but don't do such dangerous things in the future. Safety is the most important thing."

I picked one up and tasted it; it was instantly sweet to my heart.

"tasty!"

"If there's anything I can do for you in the future, just let me know."

He was also thinking about what good things he could give this kid.

Lu Yuan had appeased Jiang Haishan, and then brought up the matter of returning the tractor, first expressing his gratitude profusely.

"With this tractor, the efficiency of this year's harvest has improved a lot, and we were able to deliver the grain to the state a few days earlier than in previous years. The commune leaders even praised our brigade. When they learned that the brick and tile factory had borrowed the tractor, the leaders praised Uncle Jiang for his generosity and said they would thank him in person sometime."

This is the truth; the commune leaders genuinely wanted to thank them in person.

Now all factories are state-owned, and factory leaders are considered public officials. This brick and tile factory is a large factory in the commune, and the factory director's status is no less than that of the commune leaders, and his benefits may even be much better.

If there's an opportunity to build closer relationships, the commune leaders are quite willing to do so.

After expressing his gratitude, he brought up the matter of bringing someone to interview for a tractor driver position.

“The five of them are waiting downstairs. They are ready. Uncle Jiang, would you like to go down and choose one now?”

“Okay, let’s go down and take a look now,” Jiang Haishan said.

Lu Yuan picked up his basket again, and the two went downstairs together. They happened to run into a middle-aged man leading a young man upstairs.

The middle-aged man greeted Jiang Haishan with a smile, "Director Jiang, are you heading out?"

"Old Li, you've come at the right time. The factory needs to select another tractor driver. The person has arrived today and is now going to test drive the tractor. You should go and take a look too," Jiang Haishan said with a smile.

Li Xingguo was the only tractor driver in the factory besides Wang Fengnian. Lu Yuan came to help him because he had fallen and injured himself, leaving no one to drive the tractor.

Upon hearing this, Li Xingguo looked at Lu Yuan warily.

He had never met Lu Yuan, but he had heard of his great reputation.

I heard that during his recovery period, a young man came to help him drive the tractor and drove it very well.

Later, I heard that the factory was recruiting a tractor driver, and he was probably the one they had already decided on.

Looking at the young man in front of me, he was in good spirits, but with a basket on his back, he looked like a country bumpkin coming to the city.

I felt a little more at ease.

He did this because he also had his own ideas about the job.

The factory offered good benefits, especially for the tractor drivers who delivered bricks and tiles, whose wages were quite substantial. He had long wanted to get his nephew a job at the factory.

But the factory has never said it needs anyone, and we haven't dared to ask the factory manager directly. We've been waiting for an opportunity.

This is a good opportunity.

But when someone came up who could take his shift, he suspected that the hiring was predetermined and became anxious, constantly looking for an opportunity to introduce his nephew to the factory manager.

However, his good-for-nothing nephew had been learning to drive a tractor for some time, but his skills were still mediocre. These past few days, after get off work, he had been taking his nephew to practice every day, and he was finally starting to get the hang of it. He was thinking of bringing him over to show the factory manager today, but unexpectedly, the tractor driver who had been pre-selected came over.

He didn't answer Jiang Haishan's question about whether he wanted to go downstairs to check the situation, but instead pulled his nephew to his side.

"Director Jiang, this is my nephew, Li Jun. He can also drive a tractor, and he's quite skilled. I personally taught him. He's hardworking, conscientious, and reliable. Since our factory still needs a tractor driver for delivery, why don't we let my nephew give it a try? I guarantee he can do the job well."

Jiang Haishan looked at the man next to him, who was wearing a white shirt and blue overalls with the shirt tucked into his pants. His hair was slicked back and shiny, clearly indicating that he had dressed up carefully.

He knew in his heart that this person had come specifically to ask for the job.

He glanced at Lu Yuan before smiling and saying to Li Xingguo, "Master Li, all the people who came for the interview today are downstairs. I plan to pick the one with the best skills from among them. If your nephew is also interested in this job, then give him a chance and let him go down and participate in the interview like the others."

The implication is that he won't pre-select candidates; he only considers their skills.
