Chapter 211 Black Market I

Although Lu Yuan didn't give the two of them Xiao Fan's contact information, he still sent a message to Xiao Fan when he brought the rabbit fur from the village to the county town.

“Your two former classmates from the educated youth era contacted you a couple of days ago, asking for your contact information, but I didn’t give it to them.”

Xiao Fan frowned. "I understand."

He paused for a moment and then asked, "You came all the way to the county town just to deliver this one message to me?"

Lu Yuan shrugged. "Of course not, I have important business to attend to."

"Do you need my help?"

"Need not."

The two chatted for a few more minutes before Lu Yuan left. Chatting with this cousin was exhausting; if you couldn't find a topic to talk about after a few sentences, you could only stare blankly at each other.

He drove out in a truck today, bringing 1,000 rabbit hairs with him. He took one rabbit hair to the purchasing station and asked, and they really only offered 80 cents. He still wanted to lower the price.

Without a word, Lu Yuan took the rabbit fur and left the purchasing station. He found a secluded spot, then slipped into his spatial dimension along with his vehicle. He needed to conserve his energy; it was evening now, and he would go to the black market around dawn.

Around 2 PM, he left the space with two or three pieces of rabbit fur. He didn't release the car, but took out the bicycle and rode it to the black market.

He disguised himself, changed his clothes, put on a wig, and even applied makeup. Wen Moxue did the work, and the centipede-shaped scar on his left cheek looked just like a real one, which was quite terrifying.

He transformed from a handsome young man in his early twenties into a tough middle-aged man in his thirties or forties in an instant.

He had been to the black market in the county town twice before, so he was quite familiar with it. It was located in a maze of alleys, with guards at each entrance and exit.

Lu Yuan first found a dark alley, put the bicycle into his spatial storage, and walked towards one of the entrances to the black market with the rabbit fur in his hand. There were two guards there, smoking cigarettes and looking everyone who passed by up and down.

As Lu Yuan approached, the two casually noticed the scar on his face, and both of them immediately tensed up and stood up straight. Damn, that was terrifying.

"Buy or sell?" one of them asked as usual.

"Sell!"

"One, one cent."

Lu Yuan handed over a penny, and when his eyes swept over them, both of them shuddered.

After Lu Yuan went inside, the two of them breathed a sigh of relief. "Damn, this guy is not only scary-looking, but his eyes are scary too. If he works with our Brother Long, we're afraid those Jiang bastards will come looking for trouble all the time."

The other person nodded in agreement, "You're right, this guy could scare several people to death just by standing there."

Lu Yuan deliberately dressed up to look intimidating, because he didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble. The black market was a mixed bag, and there were many instances of gangsters double-crossing each other. He didn't want people to look down on him and try to take advantage of him because of the amount of supplies he was selling.

After walking along the alley for a while, we arrived at the black market. By then, quite a few people had arrived, and the stalls were lined up one after another. Everyone was holding a flashlight, which would flicker on and off. They would turn on the flashlight when they were looking at something and turn it off when they weren't.

Lu Yuan didn't immediately find a place to set up a stall. Instead, he first walked around to see if there was anything he wanted. Finding that he had everything he needed, he obediently found a place to stand and draped the rabbit fur over his arm.

This item isn't a necessity, so very few people ask about it. Lu Yuan stood there for half an hour without anyone asking him anything.

It's rare for someone to come by, and they only do so because they like it and want to take a look.

Half an hour later, just when Lu Yuan thought no one in the black market would buy this thing, a man in his thirties with a round face appeared.

"Do you want to sell this rabbit fur for money or trade it for something else?"

"Money."

How much are you asking for?

"You want it?"

The other person glanced at him, trying to avoid looking at the scars on his face. "Hmm, it's a pity there are only three rabbit furs. That's a bit too few."

How many do you want?

The other person's eyes lit up. "You have more?"

Lu Yuan nodded. "Quite a few."

How much is left?

"How much do you want?" Lu Yuan asked again.

"How many do you have? I'll take them all."

Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow, his tone quite arrogant. He glanced at the other person up and down, judging him to be someone from the black market.

"What's the price? All of them are of this quality."

The other party was delighted. This was first-class quality, no, it looked even better than first-class quality. Rabbit fur is mainly exported to foreigners, but they have channels to get it directly out of the country. A piece of this quality could easily sell for ten or twenty yuan.

"But the price is what it is here," he said. "If they were all this quality, I'd give you 1.8 yuan. How about that? That's more than a yuan more than the price at the recycling station."

Lu Yuan said indifferently, "Not very good."

He knew there was still room for negotiation on the price.

The man said, "This price is already quite high. Your rabbit fur is neither edible nor drinkable. I'm afraid that no one else in the entire market would want it except me."

"It doesn't matter."

The man choked for a moment, then asked, "How much do you want to sell it for?"

Lu Yuan: "2.5 yuan, plus a receipt."

The vein on the man's forehead throbbed. This was the highest price they had ever paid for rabbit fur. Had this man inquired about it before or what?

However, the quality is better than before, so 2.5 yuan is acceptable.

Just as he was about to agree, a man with a pointed face and monkey-like features appeared beside him, followed by two slovenly henchmen.

"I'll pay 2.6 yuan for this rabbit fur."

Lu Yuan and the man both frowned. The man was furious when he saw who it was. "Monkey Three, are you here to cause trouble again?"

Lu Yuan's lips twitched. "Monkey Three," he thought, "it's really fitting."

"I'm not here to cause trouble, I'm here to buy this brother's rabbit fur."

As he spoke, he looked at Lu Yuan, immediately took several steps back, and exclaimed, "Holy crap!"

He was so focused on his nemesis that he didn't notice Lu Yuan. The centipede scar suddenly came into view and almost scared him to death.

Lu Yuan glanced at him indifferently and then looked away, pursing his lips without saying a word. He could tell that the two of them didn't get along, and if they continued bidding, he would be the one to benefit in the end.

Seeing Monkey Three's cowardly appearance, the man laughed loudly, "You think you can get involved in the black market with a guts like that?"

Monkey Three, feeling humiliated by the mockery, snorted, "So what if you're bold? Be careful you don't end up in trouble."

"How arrogant!"

"Whether it's boastful or not, we'll see."

Lu Yuan was too lazy to listen to the two arguing, so he raised his hand to interrupt, "Gentlemen, are you still going to buy rabbit fur? If you are, please continue to bid. If not, please find another place to argue."
