Lin Yue continued, "I know everyone has many questions about the current situation. Although our homemade protective equipment is not as good as the professional ones, it is our best weapon in the current situation of material shortage. Moreover, we are constantly improving our treatment methods. You should know that some patients' conditions have been brought under control, which is a source of hope. We cannot only see the bad side; we must see the achievements we have made."
Aunt Liu stepped forward as well. She was a highly respected figure in the village, and her presence calmed some of the villagers slightly. Her eyes held a calm and authoritative quality: "Everyone, don't panic. Lin Yue and the educated youth have sacrificed so much for our village; we've all seen it. They genuinely care about us, and we should trust them. Now, all we can do is cooperate with them, take precautions, and not lose our composure. Our village has weathered so many storms; we'll definitely get through this one too."
With the reassurance of Lin Yue and Aunt Liu, the villagers at the village entrance gradually dispersed, but the shadow of fear still lingered over the village, and the oppressive atmosphere did not lessen at all. Lin Yue and Chen Yu then rushed to the quarantine zone, where the atmosphere was even heavier than at the village entrance, as if the air itself had been frozen by sorrow and despair.
Inside the isolation ward, the patients' conditions varied. Some lay silently in bed, their eyes vacant like deep black holes, devoid of any life, as if they had lost all hope for life, their souls seemingly drifting to another world. Others were restless and agitated, like wild animals trapped in a cage, struggling incessantly, crying out for home, their voices filled with helplessness and a yearning for freedom and health. Lin Yue and the medical staff were busy caring for the patients while also trying their best to soothe their emotions; every action and every word was fraught with difficulty.
Lin Yue approached the bedside of an agitated patient. She gently knelt down, her eyes filled with tenderness and pity. She whispered, "Brother, you need to calm down. Being like this isn't good for your condition. You need to rest and maintain a calm mind; that's how you'll recover faster. We're all here for you." The patient, however, seemed not to hear her, crying and shouting, "I don't want to be here! I feel like I'm dying! Let me go home! I miss my family! I don't want to die here!" Lin Yue grasped the patient's hand, her hand trembling slightly with deep compassion. "Brother, you can't give up! We're all working hard for you. Look, we have medicine, we have treatment methods. As long as you cooperate with us, you will definitely recover. Your family is waiting for you. If you give up, how heartbroken they will be!" With Lin Yue's patient persuasion, the patient's emotions gradually stabilized, and a glimmer of hope seemed to rekindle in his eyes.
While caring for patients, Lin Yue noticed a young female patient who was always silently shedding tears. Lin Yue gently sat down beside her bed, her eyes filled with concern: "Little sister, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Or is something on your mind? You can tell me." The female patient choked back tears and said, "I'm scared. I'm so young, I don't want to die. And my parents are sick too, I don't know how they are. I feel so lonely and helpless right now." Lin Yue gently wiped away her tears, her movements as tender as if she were handling a rare treasure: "Little sister, don't be afraid. You're so young, your body has a strong ability to recover. We will cure you and take good care of your parents. You have to believe in us, we are a team, we won't abandon anyone. You also have to believe in yourself, you have to be strong and fight against this illness."
Besides the patients, their families were also in a state of extreme anxiety. Outside the isolation area, an elderly man sat on the ground, his eyes staring blankly in the direction of the isolation zone, as if his soul had followed his sick son into that world of pain. His son was isolated inside, and he was powerless to help; this helplessness shrouded his world in darkness. Lin Yue walked over, squatted down, and met the old man's gaze, her eyes filled with sympathy: "Grandpa, don't worry too much. We're taking care of your son inside. His condition is relatively stable now. You need to take good care of yourself so that when he comes out, you'll still be healthy and able to be with him better." The old man looked at Lin Yue, his lips trembling, as if he wanted to say something, but his throat was choked by grief: "Young lady, thank you. I hope my son gets better soon. He's my life."
As time went on, new cases of fever appeared in the village. This was like a bombshell, creating another breach in the villagers' already fragile mental defenses. Panic surged back like a tidal wave, even more intense than before. Lin Yue and Chen Yu had to run around again, like firefighters, trying their best to calm everyone down.
They visited every corner of the village, talking to each household. Lin Yue used her professional knowledge and warm words to try to dispel the villagers' fear. In the courtyard of a farmer's house, Lin Yue was talking to a villager when she suddenly heard a child crying inside. The cry was sharp and piercing, as if telling the world about her fear. Lin Yue rushed into the house and saw a little girl sitting on the bed crying. It turned out that the little girl's parents were sick, and she was alone in the empty house, her little heart filled with loneliness and fear. Lin Yue quickly went over, picked up the little girl, gently patted her back, and softly comforted her, "Little girl, don't cry. I'm here. Your mom and dad will get better, and I'll protect you." The little girl gradually stopped crying in Lin Yue's arms. She clung tightly to Lin Yue, as if she had found the only support in this dark world. Her small body was still trembling slightly, showing that the fear deep in her heart had not completely dissipated.
