Lin Yue and Chen Yu stood at the doorway, gazing at the lively scene before them, their hearts filled with emotion and joy. Lin Yue wore a light purple dress, the hem fluttering in the wind, her face beaming with happiness, tears welling in her eyes. Chen Yu, dressed in a crisp white shirt, stood beside Lin Yue, his eyes brimming with pride.
Lin Yue took a few steps forward and stood before the villagers, her voice trembling with excitement. "Fellow villagers," she said, "today is a great day for our village. Our library and cultural activity room are finally completed! This is the result of everyone's hard work; each person has contributed their sweat and toil. This will be a place for us to acquire knowledge and enjoy happiness; it's a new starting point for our village's culture. I hope everyone will make good use of it, filling our village with a cultural atmosphere and enriching our lives!" Lin Yue's words were like a warm spring breeze, blowing into the hearts of every villager. The villagers erupted in enthusiastic applause and cheers, the sounds echoing through the village for a long time.
Stepping into the library, a refreshing scent of books wafts through the air. Sunlight streams through the bright windows, illuminating rows of bookshelves filled with a diverse array of books, their colorful spines gleaming with the light of knowledge. The bookshelves are crafted from sturdy wood, their surfaces polished smooth and coated with a light layer of varnish, exuding a rustic yet elegant charm.
The children cheered and rushed to the bookshelves, their little hands eagerly searching for their favorite books. A little girl picked up a fairy tale book with beautiful illustrations, her eyes widening, and excitedly told her friends, "Look, this is 'Cinderella,' I've always wanted to read it!" Then, she ran to a chair by the window and began to read it with great interest.
The cultural activity room was also bustling with activity. Around the chess table, several elderly men sat, completely absorbed in their game. They would sometimes furrow their brows in thought, and sometimes break into knowing smiles. "Checkmate! Haha, Old Li, you've made a mistake on that move!" one of the men exclaimed with a laugh, his face beaming with the joy of victory, his eyes gleaming with wisdom.
At the ping-pong table, young people were engaged in a fierce competition. The white ping-pong ball bounced rapidly back and forth on the table, accompanied by shouts and cheers from the young people. "Good shot!" "Go for it!" The cries of "Good shot!" echoed throughout the activity room, filling it with energy.
In a corner of the cultural activity room, there was an exhibition area displaying traditional farm tools and handicrafts from the village. These exhibits showcased the village's traditional culture and the wisdom of its villagers. A young woman stood in front of the exhibition area, gazing at the exquisite handicrafts with admiration in her eyes. "Were all these made by people from our village? They're so beautiful," she murmured. The villagers around her nodded in agreement, their faces beaming with pride.
On the other side of the library, there was a small reading sharing area with some soft cushions and small tea tables. This was set up to facilitate villagers sharing their reading experiences. Lin Yue saw several women sitting there, discussing a book.
“The stories in this book are so touching; they remind me of our own lives,” a woman said, her eyes filled with emotion.
“Yes, reading allows us to see different worlds and also helps us better understand our own lives,” another woman responded, their eyes sparkling with appreciation for knowledge.
Lin Yue weaved through the crowd, a smile always on her face. She noticed an elderly woman, rarely seen outside, wearing reading glasses and intently reading a health book. She approached her and asked, "Grandma, what do you think of this place?" The old woman looked up, her eyes sparkling. "It's wonderful! It's really great. I'm old and not in good health, and I never expected to find books here that would be helpful. This library is so worthwhile!" The old woman's words deeply moved Lin Yue. She knew that this was the true meaning behind their construction of the library and activity room.
In the days that followed, the library and cultural activity room became an indispensable part of the villagers' lives. Every morning, as the first rays of sunlight shone on the village, villagers began to arrive at the library. Some would sit in a quiet corner, immersing themselves in the world of books and absorbing knowledge; others would linger in front of the bookshelves, searching for a book that suited them, their eyes filled with a thirst for knowledge.
As evening falls, villagers who have worked all day gather in the cultural activity room. It becomes a haven for relaxation and intellectual exchange. Women admire old photographs and handicrafts in the exhibition area, sharing their techniques and experiences. Children, after finishing their homework, play games or listen to stories told by the elders. These ancient legends and tales plant seeds of culture in the children's hearts, deepening their understanding and love for their hometown's culture.
Lin Yue often visits the library to help the librarian organize the books. She meticulously arranges each book according to its category and adjusts their placement based on the villagers' reading needs. She also spends time talking with the villagers to understand their reading experiences and requirements. Once, she saw a somewhat mischievous little boy sitting in a corner, engrossed in a popular science book about plants. Lin Yue walked over, gently sat down beside him, and asked with a smile, "Do you like this book?" The little boy looked up, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Sister Lin Yue, this book is so interesting! I never knew plants had so many secrets. I want to be like those scientists when I grow up, studying plants and growing more and better things!" The little boy's voice was full of longing. Lin Yue smiled and patted his head, saying, "Then you must study hard! There's a lot of knowledge in the book that can help you achieve this dream." The little boy nodded vigorously and became absorbed in the book again.
