The morning sun hadn't completely dispelled the chill of the night when Lin Yue was startled awake by a series of urgent knocks on the door. She and Chen Yu exchanged a glance and hurriedly got up to open it. Standing outside was a young man from the village, his face full of anxiety: "Brother Chen Yu, Sister-in-law Lin Yue, something terrible has happened! Grandpa Liu has suddenly fallen seriously ill, and the village doctor can't do anything about it. He's on the verge of death!"
Lin Yue's heart sank. Without hesitation, she immediately said, "Quick, take us to see a doctor." Along the way, various possible symptoms and coping methods kept flashing through Lin Yue's mind. She knew that every second was crucial.
When they arrived at Grandpa Liu's house, it was already crowded with people. Grandpa Liu lay on the bed, his face ashen, his eyes closed, his breathing weak and rapid. The village's old doctor shook his head and sighed, while the villagers' faces were filled with worry and helplessness. Aunt Liu wiped away her tears, and when she saw Lin Yue arrive, she seemed to grasp at a last straw: "Lin Yue, you must save Grandpa Liu! With him sick, the whole family doesn't know what to do."
Lin Yue quickly walked to the bedside and began to carefully examine Grandpa Liu's condition. She first felt his pulse, then checked his pupils, tongue coating, and other features, her brows gradually furrowing. Judging from the symptoms, Grandpa Liu's condition was very complex, possibly involving multiple diseases, and his situation was extremely critical.
"Lin Yue, how is it? Is there any way?" Chen Yu asked softly from the side. He knew that Lin Yue's medical skills were superb, but he couldn't help but worry at this moment.
Lin Yue didn't answer immediately; she quickly reviewed the treatment plan in her mind. She decided to first use acupuncture to stabilize Grandpa Liu's condition, and then try some modern medicines she had brought with her. She took out acupuncture needles from her small bag; these were her treasured possessions that she always carried with her, and she never expected them to come in handy at this moment.
When Lin Yue took out the silver needles, the villagers all showed expressions of surprise. In this era, although some people knew about acupuncture, it was still relatively unfamiliar to most villagers, especially seeing this young woman, Lin Yue, skillfully handling the silver needles, which they found incredible.
"Will this work? Can this young girl cure illnesses? What if she makes Grandpa Liu worse?" Someone in the crowd muttered under their breath. This comment was like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples. Doubts began to spread among the crowd.
"She's just a young woman, what medical skills could she possibly know? Don't do anything reckless."
"That's right, let's listen to the old doctor and not let her do anything wrong."
Hearing these doubts, Lin Yue felt somewhat helpless, but she had no time to explain. She took a deep breath, focused on sterilizing the silver needles, and began to apply them to Grandpa Liu's acupuncture points. Her technique was light and precise, each needle inserted perfectly. The old doctor watching Lin Yue's acupuncture technique showed a hint of surprise in his eyes. He could tell Lin Yue had genuine skill, but he wasn't sure if this unprecedented treatment method was truly effective.
As the silver needles were inserted one by one, Grandpa Liu's breathing seemed to stabilize, and his complexion regained a little color. Lin Yue breathed a slight sigh of relief; it seemed the first step had worked. But just then, a villager suddenly stood up: "No, we can't let her continue. How do we know if she's treating him or harming him? What if something happens to Grandpa Liu? Who will be responsible?"
The villager's words were echoed by many others, who began clamoring for Lin Yue to stop treatment. Lin Yue raised her head, looking at everyone with unwavering determination: "Grandpa Liu's condition is critical. If treatment doesn't continue, he might not make it through the day. I'm confident I can cure him; please believe me."
However, the villagers were not moved by her words; instead, they became even more agitated. Some even tried to stop Lin Yue. Seeing this, Chen Yu immediately stepped forward, blocking Lin Yue's path: "Everyone, please calm down. Lin Yue is my wife. I know her well; her medical skills are superb. We can't just watch Grandpa Liu leave like this. Why not give her a chance?"
“Chen Yu, don’t be fooled by her. We’ve never seen any of her strange methods before. How can we risk Grandpa Liu’s life?” an elderly villager said seriously.
“Yes, we can’t take that risk.” The other villagers nodded in agreement.
Looking at the excited villagers, Lin Yue felt a pang of bitterness in her heart. She knew that in this traditional era, her modern medical skills would be difficult to accept, especially when it came to matters of life and death. But she truly didn't want to give up; she couldn't bear to watch a life slip away before her eyes.
Just as the two sides were at an impasse, Captain Li arrived. He looked around the room and frowned: "What's going on? What are you all arguing about?"
A villager recounted the situation to Captain Li, who pondered for a moment before looking at Lin Yue: "Lin Yue, how confident are you that you can cure Grandpa Liu?"
Lin Yue looked at Captain Li and said firmly, "Captain Li, I'm 80% confident. But time is of the essence now, and if we delay any longer, my confidence will diminish."
Captain Li paced back and forth in the room, knowing it was a difficult decision. If he supported Lin Yue and the treatment failed, he would bear a heavy responsibility; but if he didn't support her, Grandpa Liu would truly be beyond saving. He looked at Grandpa Liu, who was lying on the bed, barely alive, then at Lin Yue's determined eyes, and finally made up his mind: "Lin Yue, I believe in you. Go ahead and treat him. But remember, if anything goes wrong, you will have to bear the consequences."
Lin Yue nodded: "I understand, Captain Li, I will take responsibility."
With Captain Li's support, Lin Yue continued her treatment. In addition to acupuncture, she also prepared some herbal medicine she had made herself. This medicine was made from herbs she collected in the mountains during her spare time; although simple, it was still effective. She brewed the medicine and carefully fed it to Grandpa Liu.
