Chapter 12: Taking Refuge in Dayan Mountain

Kang Yueran replied, "A little, not much. I can't walk after applying the medicine. Is there anyone in your family who can carry me?"

One of the men, named Kang Youyu, replied, "The one who injured his foot is my youngest son, Xiaodou. He's only six years old. He's not heavy, so I'll carry him on my back."

"Okay, then I'll apply medicine to Uncle Yu's child first. We'll probably reach the destination in another hour. Once we get there, I'll treat your two families' injuries."

Kang Hong was afraid that the other two families would be unhappy, so he hurried to help Kang Yueran explain, "There's not much medicine left for the wound, so we have to use it sparingly. Besides, if you apply the medicine and then step into the mud, the medicine will go into the mud too, and it won't heal the wound."

That was all they could do! The other two families went back with their heads down.

Xiaodou's foot was scratched by a stone, but fortunately the cut was not deep and the wound was not big.

There is mud on the soles of my legs, so I need to wash it off first. It's raining now, so there is plenty of water.

After washing, Kang Yueran took out her water bag and rinsed it again. The water in the water bag was spiritual spring water, which was good for healing after cleaning the wound.

She opened the bundle and found several small porcelain bottles inside.

She asked Kang Youyu to help shield her from the rain. She took out a porcelain bottle, sprinkled the medicine powder on the wound, and then took the dry cloth strips prepared by Kang Youyu's wife and bandaged it simply.

Kang Yuanhao huddled in Kang Yueran's arms, and with a bitter face, he asked Xiaodou, "Brother Xiaodou, are you in pain?"

Xiaodou held back his tears and nodded, then shook his head, "It hurts a little." He was very envious of Kang Yuanhao who had someone holding him all the way.

Kang Yueran instructed Kang Youyu, "Be careful. If the bandage is too wet, take it off and spray the medicine again when you get there." The rain was so heavy that it was impossible to keep the wound completely dry.

Kang Youyu quickly agreed, "Okay!" He took off his water bag from his waist and said, "Yueran, take this and drink."

"No need, Uncle Yu, I have water. I'll go back first!"

Zhao had been staring at Kang Yueran from a distance. Seeing Kang Yueran was about to leave, she pushed Kang Youping next to her.

Kang Youping understood what his mother meant and called out to Kang Yueran. "Yueran, don't leave yet!"

"We've rested enough. I'll lead the way. We'll talk about anything once we get there!" She knew without asking that they definitely wanted her to carry Zhao. Zhao had been living a life of idleness for so many years that her limbs had probably atrophied. She wouldn't ask for trouble.

Zhao started cursing behind Kang Yueran's back, saying things like "unfilial" and "God will strike me with lightning..."

Everyone looked at Zhao a few times, but no one stepped forward to persuade her. Firstly, everyone was tired, and secondly, most of the villagers now looked down on Zhao and the eldest wife.

As soon as the gong sounded, Kang Hong shouted, "Get up! We'll be there in just another hour!"

Most people's feet were already numb, so walking was relatively smooth during this hour.

Kang Yueran stopped at a relatively flat place, and Kang Hong loudly told everyone to rest here.

Each family found a place to sit together.

Without dry branches, we couldn't light a fire, and even if we brought food, we couldn't cook. Fortunately, there was a stream not far away, so drinking water was not a problem.

Wearing wet clothes and being blown by the cold wind, some people started sneezing.

The rain gradually subsided, which made people less desperate despite being tired and hungry.

Kang Yueran and Kang Yuanchen gathered together. Kang Yuanhao hugged Kang Yueran listlessly and whispered, "Sister, I'm hungry!"

Kang Yuanfeng leaned against a tree, his stomach already rumbling. "You still dare to say you're hungry?"

Ye pulled Kang Yueran's sleeve and said, "I'm hungry too!"

Everyone was hungry. There was a lot of food in the space, but they couldn't take it out. Even if they had food on hand, they couldn't cook.

Kang Yueran untied Kang Yuanhao and borrowed a large basket from Kang Yuanchen and put it on his back. "I remember there's a pomegranate tree nearby. I'll go look for it."

Kang Yuanchen stood up and said, "I'll go with you."

Kang Yueran immediately refused, "No, you stay here and help me take care of Yuanfeng and Yuanhao, I can do it alone."

She handed the bundle to Kang Yuanchen, "The white porcelain bottles contain hemostatic drugs, which are only used for people with deep wounds.

If the wound is shallow or small, ask their family to find some hemp rope vegetables that we often eat, chew them up, spit them out, and then apply them to the wound. Hemp rope vegetables can detoxify and reduce swelling, so it works well.

There were no pomegranate trees nearby. Kang Yueran walked a few hundred meters into the mountains, turned into the space, opened the mall and bought 15 kilograms of pomegranates.

Eating only pomegranates was not enough to fill her up, so she bought thirty mixed-flour steamed buns and two black pickled cabbage dumplings.

Kang Yueran returned to the team carrying a large basket. She took out a bundle from under the pomegranate, handed a steamed bun to each person, took out a pickle, and cut a piece for each person with a dagger.

She explained in a low voice, "I found it under the pomegranate tree. I don't know who hid it. Don't make a sound and eat it quickly!"

Except for Kang Yueran, everyone else was a little hesitant. If they ate the steamed buns hidden by others, then others would go hungry.

Kang Yueran understood what they were thinking, "Eat it! I didn't take it all, there's more."

Huang said, "When we get home, I'll make some steamed buns and give them back to you."

Without the psychological burden, everyone started to stuff the steamed buns into their mouths hurriedly.

Except for Kang Yuanhao, the rest of the people could not even be full with just one steamed bun, but they didn't know when the rain would stop, so even if they had steamed buns, they couldn't eat them all in one meal.

The rainstorm finally stopped in the afternoon, and the sun even came out. Looking into the distance, you could see a rainbow after the rain.

The rain stopped, and everyone's mood improved. Seeing the lush vegetation around them, the women began to go out together to dig wild vegetables.

Kang Yueran also went there. Instead of looking for wild vegetables, she looked for mint.

She found Kang Hong and handed him a mint. "Grandpa, the village head, everyone is wearing wet clothes. It will get cold when it gets dark. I think many people will catch a cold. Let's find more mint, wash it, and put it in a water bag. Drinking it can relieve colds."

Kang Hong's slightly chubby face showed a big smile, "Okay, okay! Yueran, you still know more!"

After saying this, he picked up his broken gong and started beating it again.

As the sky darkened, the people who had been gathering wild vegetables returned in groups of two or three, all smiling. This was deep in the mountains, so there were few visitors and abundant wild vegetables. Even if they couldn't eat them now, they could take them home and enjoy them later.

Just as everyone was rejoicing, two people carrying a person hurriedly came towards Kang Yueran. "Yueran, do you have medicine for snake venom?"
