Chapter 13: The Snake Bites

The word "snake" touched everyone's sensitive nerves, and expressions of fear appeared on the faces of the people around.

Kang Yueran took a look and saw that the wound was on his calf and the surrounding area was a little black, which seemed to be poisonous.

She took out a dagger and drew a cross on the wound. "Uncle Niu, please help Uncle Niu squeeze out the poisonous blood."

Niu Da quickly squatted down and squeezed out the poisonous blood from his brother. The blood that came out was black and red.

Kang Yueran said, "Keep squeezing. When your hands get tired, ask someone else to squeeze. Make sure you squeeze until the blood that comes out is bright red."

She had no medicine to treat snake venom, so she could only use this method temporarily.

Kang Yueran used the spiritual spring water in the water bag to help Niu Er rinse the wound from time to time. After squeezing for more than a quarter of an hour, the color of the blood faded a lot. "It's almost done."

Niu Da asked, "Is the hemp rope herb effective against snake venom? Can I apply it to my second brother?"

Kang Yueran nodded, "Hemp rope vegetable also has the effect of detoxification, it can be used."

Niu Da's face was full of gratitude, "Yueran, thank you so much!"

"We're all from the same village, you're welcome!"

"You are so smart and know so much!"

Kang Yueran quickly added, "It's all thanks to my dad's good teaching!"

When mentioning Kang Youan, Niu Da stopped laughing and said, "Your father was a good man and very capable. What a pity!"

Kang Yueran smiled bitterly, "My father is in heaven blessing us."

Everyone sighed, Zhao and Kang Youping were really committing a sin!

As soon as the news that Niu Er was bitten by a poisonous snake spread, the villagers were in an uproar and everyone was very scared.

No one knew who started it, but Kang Youshou brought several people to find Kang Yueran, hoping that she would kill the snakes and insects nearby.

Kang Yueran's face looked very unhappy. "How do I kill him? Why not let Uncle Shou teach me?"

"You and your father hunt every day, do you need me to teach you how to kill snakes?"

"If I kill the ones nearby, the ones further away might come running over. There are so many snakes on Dayan Mountain, can I kill them all?"

Kang Youshou was very annoyed and spoke in a somewhat aggressive tone, "Then what do you say we should do? My grandson is still young. If he gets bit by a snake, it could be fatal."

Kang Yueran rolled her eyes in public, "You said it's your grandson, not mine, so what does it have to do with me? If you're so worried about your grandson getting bit by a snake, just go kill the snake yourself and don't bother me!"

"Why are you so..."

"So what? So vicious? Show me if you're not vicious! It's true that I brought you here, but if you don't like this place, you can find a better place yourself."

Kang Hong rushed over after hearing the quarrel. After finding out what was going on, he scolded Kang Youshou and the others.

He comforted Kang Yueran again, and patted his chest to assure her that if anyone dared to talk nonsense again, he would deal with it.

Seeing Kang Hong's haggard appearance, Kang Yueran felt a little sorry. "For the sake of the village head, I'll go look in the mountains. I remember there are a few plants whose leaves can repel snakes."

Kang Hong laughed happily a few times, "I am still the most respected old man! It's getting dark, Yue Ran, I'll ask a few people to accompany you."

How could Kang Yueran bring anyone else with her when she was going into the space? "No, I won't go far. I'll be fine if I'm careful."

Kang Yuanchen stepped forward and said, "I'll go with Yueran!"

Kang Hong gave a few instructions, then heard someone calling him from a distance and hurried away again.

Kang Yuanchen complained softly, "Uncle Youshou is so shameless. Yueran, are you really going?"

"Of course I have to go. Your mother, my mother, your brother, and my brother all sleep here. I can go by myself. I remember there's one not far from here."

Seeing that Kang Yuanchen insisted on going with her, Kang Yueran said, "I know Dayanshan better than you do," and then ran away quickly.

Kang Yuanchen chased for a few steps, but seeing that Kang Yueran had already run far away, he stomped his feet and came back.

Kang Yueran entered the space and bought ten kilograms of Euonymus japonicus leaves from the mall. Euonymus japonicus is also known as cat's thorn or star anise thorn, and it is very effective in repelling snakes.

This plant is mostly grown in the south and is rarely seen in the north. The villagers probably haven't seen it. If they haven't seen it, she can say that she picked it from Dayan Mountain. Anyway, no one dares to claim to know all the plants on Dayan Mountain.

She gave the leaves to Kanghong and asked him to give some to each family.

No one knew this kind of leaf and was skeptical about its snake-repelling effect. Kang Hong said it was given by Kang Yueran, and everyone felt relieved.

At night, everyone in the village was fast asleep, and the sound of snoring could be heard one after another, making it very lively.

Kang Yueran leaned against a tree, holding the sleeping Kang Yuanhao in her arms. She looked up at the stars in the sky and couldn't help but smile.

The stars are out, which means the clouds have dispersed and it shouldn't rain tomorrow.

She exhaled slowly, but before she could take another breath, she heard the howling of a wolf not far away.

Kang Yueran's mouth drooped again. God bless her, please don't encounter a pack of wolves. No matter how strong she was, she only had two hands, and she couldn't protect so many villagers.

Sure enough, when the sun rose, everyone found that the dark clouds had disappeared and the sky was clear!

Men, women, young and old all wiped away their tears.

Kang Hong excitedly asked Kang Yueran, "Shall we pack up and go down the mountain?"

Kang Yueran wasn't as optimistic. "Didn't you say the river at the end of the village has risen a lot? Plus with yesterday's heavy rain, we don't know what the situation is like in the village. Why don't we organize a few young men to go down the mountain and take a look?"

Kang Hong's expression immediately turned from joy to gloom, "Alright! It saves us from all the hassle! I'll go find someone."

A quarter of an hour later, Kang Yueran and five people came down the mountain.

Without having to carry people or things and without any burden on their shoulders, the six people reached the foot of the mountain in an hour.

Looking down from the high ground, the village was already a vast expanse of water. Gao Hong, a fellow traveler, counted the remaining houses and said, "Almost half are gone."

In other words, half of the houses were collapsed by water.

Kang Yueran said, "Gao Hong, climb up the tree and take a look at the water depth in the village."

Several young men helped Gao Hong climb up the tree. Gao Hong looked towards the village and said, "The big willow tree at the entrance of the village is not flooded at all. If I stand there, the water will reach my knees.

The gate of the village head's house in the middle of the village was more than half flooded. If I stood there, it would probably reach my waist."

The young men all looked ashen. "When will the water seep into the ground when it's so deep? We can't live in the mountains forever."

"I heard there are wolves in the mountains, Yueran, have you ever seen wolves in Dayan Mountain?"

Kang Yueran didn't want to lie to them, "I have seen them. I don't know how many there are in total, but there must be more than one."

"There are poisonous snakes and wolves. What should we do?"

Kang Yueran said, "Let's go back and tell the village head about the situation first, and then let him discuss it with the villagers."
