Chapter 2 The Mad Lion King
Xiao Qing unconsciously clenched her fist under the covers, her eyes lowered and she remained silent, half of her face illuminated by the flickering light shining through the gap in the carriage curtain.
She has never seen her own face, nor does she know her age, who she is, or what she has been through. In this situation, silence is the only response.
Perhaps due to the long silence, the old doctor said in a slightly trembling voice, "Grand Tutor, His Majesty has suffered such a great calamity, I'm afraid he has injured his head."
The Grand Tutor frowned, glancing at the white cloth wrapped around Xiao Qing's head. He thought that the head injury was just a minor one, and it was inevitable that she would bump into something in the chaos and haste. However, she had indeed suffered a major change. If she were to become an idiot, he would have to think carefully about the future.
"Physician He, please drive the carriage." The Grand Tutor spoke very politely, and Physician He immediately got up, opened the carriage door without asking any questions, got out, sent the driver away, and began to do this unfamiliar job himself.
Xiao Qing struggled to sit up, her heart growing increasingly tense. Her fist, which had been clenched under the quilt, loosened, but she unconsciously gripped the quilt again.
She thought this ruthless man was about to kill her to silence her, but to her surprise, he knelt down, placed his hands in front of him, and kowtowed three times, which was the proper way to pay his respects.
"Does Your Majesty still remember your humble servant?" the Grand Tutor asked cautiously.
Xiao Qing was unsure whether to shake her head or nod, so she maintained her indifferent demeanor.
The Grand Tutor said, “Your Majesty, I am Fu Mingyi, courtesy name Jinyan, who was personally appointed by the late Emperor. Your Majesty is young and was entrusted with this responsibility by the late Emperor. In this time of crisis, I, as the Grand Tutor, shall assist Your Majesty and support the nation.”
Xiao was terrified, his blood rushing to his head. He had been speechless and pretending to be nonchalant, but after hearing what Fu Mingyi, who called himself Grand Tutor, had said, he was almost ready to give up on life. He really didn't want to say another word.
His Majesty, Grand Tutor, entrusted with the care of the young emperor, in times of crisis, to assist the emperor, for the sake of the nation... and then consider the previous incident of being stabbed, the palace burning down, and now the fleeing in disarray...
If all of this is true, then the hand she was dealt in her next life couldn't be worse.
Seeing that Xiao Qing still didn't speak, but her eyes became more lively, Fu Mingyi judged that Xiao Qing understood what he was saying.
He secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that it would be easier if he understood.
However, the current situation is really putting him in a difficult position.
Even with his extraordinary talent, at this moment all he could feel was the word "difficult" lingering in his mind.
"Your Majesty, from this moment on, you are the Emperor of the Great Xiao. Do you remember?" When he said this, his gaze was unfathomable, but his gentle tone subtly revealed a strong sense of power.
Do all of Emperor Xiao's ministers speak to the emperor like this?
Xiao Qing pondered for a moment, then said coldly, "I'm tired and want to rest." He then lay down on his own, turning over so that his entire back was almost straight.
She didn't miss the fleeting surprise and sharpness in Fu Mingyi's eyes when she finished speaking.
Fu Mingyi knelt on the ground for a long time without saying a word. Finally, he got up and left on his own, leaving only Xiao Qing in the carriage.
Xiao Qing secretly exhaled the breath she had been holding for a long time, opened her eyes and looked at the roof of the car, feeling truly bewildered and helpless.
In the magnificent and luxurious palace of the Xiao Dynasty, a tall young man with curly brown hair and a string of gems on his forehead stood in front of the emperor's bedroom, which had been burned by fire. He casually stretched out his hand, letting the servants behind him drape an outer robe over his head. His blue eyes, still tinged with the smell of alcohol, narrowed slightly, and he said indifferently, "They were all burned to death?"
"Your Majesty, we have found a corpse on the bed. Judging from the bone age and height, it must be their young emperor."
King Lie casually straightened his crooked, half-open robe and laughed, "Isn't that perfect?"
Someone else said, "But King Lie, the court officials of the Xiao Dynasty have broken through our encirclement and are now fleeing south."
How many people are there in total?
"Around three hundred. Among them is the very famous Fu Mingyi."
King Lie finally straightened his clothes, looked up at the burned and ruined palace, thought for a moment and then said, "There's no need to chase those three hundred men anymore. Send someone to inform the Great Khan to send someone to take over these people as soon as possible."
He turned to leave, then stopped, tapped his head, and said, "Oh, right, I really like that Consort Ming, so I'll take her with me."
"Prince Lie! That's their dead emperor's woman! And..."
King Lie waved his hand, "You already said they're dead. Look over the others who aren't dead, pick out the best ones and send them to the Khan. It's just one less concubine. Anyway, I've already tasted them, and they were quite delicious. The Khan knows my temperament; he won't blame me."
"King Lie! You conquered this land, so... so... are you going to just hand over the credit to someone else?" a subordinate said indignantly.
King Lie turned to look at him, seemingly finding his flushed face quite amusing.
When the man saw King Lie looking at him, he immediately knelt down, his heart pounding.
King Lie chuckled, "Such a troublesome matter, who would be willing to do it if it weren't for Father Khan's request?"
Before long, someone saw that in the side hall where King Lie had slept drunk all night, King Lie was carrying a woman who was struggling incessantly wrapped in a quilt on his shoulder and walking out. His close ministers followed behind him without saying a word.
The woman began to shout and curse, tears streaming down her face. King Lie just laughed loudly. Finally, he stopped, took off his shoes, tore off his socks, rolled them into a ball, and stuffed them into her mouth.
He added, “My beauty, if you continue to curse, I don’t care. But if you offend the public, I’m afraid I’ll have to send you out so everyone can have a taste of what’s to come. I can’t bear that. So I’ll just have to make you suffer a little.”
King Lie watched as she wept and whimpered, finally fainting with her eyes rolled back. He then laughed heartily, carried her on his back, and continued on his way.
The barbarian soldiers from the grasslands happily cleaned the palace while occasionally chatting.
Some people said, "King Lie is truly a fine man," with an expression of admiration and respect.
Someone else shook their head and said, "Even if we're happy now, there are still three older brothers above us, and that mother... No matter how much the Khan favors her, it's still..."
The person next to him slapped him hard on the shoulder, "Stop talking! King Lie is the 'Mad Lion' of our clan, the most powerful man! He conquered the entire Great Xiao!"
"Tell me, why didn't the King of Lie allow them to chase those three hundred men? I saw that the men who went to chase them came back unhappy, saying that it felt so good to chase those weaklings and make them run for their lives..."
"What do you know? King Lie has been well-versed in military strategy since childhood. Although I don't understand the intricacies, I have heard of the principle of 'don't pursue a cornered enemy.' Whatever King Lie says is right!"
"King Lie is just too playful. Last time, he made a mistake because he was drunk, so the Great Khan punished him by making him go to war."
"Those are all pretexts. Besides King Lie, who else could fight such a brilliant battle..."
Prince Lie didn't care what others said. He took away most of the wine from the Xiao family's palace. Last night, he drank the strongest and best wine and took away the most beautiful and fierce woman. Now, every pore of his body was filled with a feeling of comfort.
Life should be lived to the fullest; fame and fortune are what make people weary.
