Chapter 43 How Much Do We Know About the Past?

Guan Mansion's Rainbow Courtyard.

Guan Zhiyue looked at Li Qishang, who was lying on the ground, clutching his left shoulder in pain. Despite being in obvious pain, he put on an act of being fine and doing nothing, which Guan Zhiyue found unbelievable.

"It's alright, don't worry!"

Guan Zhiyue stared blankly, lost in thought. Her mind was completely blank as she looked at Li Qishang, unable to describe her feelings.

"Bilian, quickly take your mistress back to her room to rest." Guan Hongsheng saw that Guan Zhiyue was frightened and quickly instructed Bilian to take Guan Zhiyue away.

Li Qishang looked at Guan Zhiyue, whose face was deathly pale and whose eyes were devoid of light. He figured she must be terrified. He tried to smile at her.

With the help of Bilian and a maid, Guan Zhiyue entered the room where she lived before her marriage.

"Your Highness, what's wrong? Don't scare me!" Bilian looked at Guan Zhiyue, who was sitting on the edge of the bed without saying a word, looking both scared and worried.

A moment later, a female doctor walked in from the door, and Bilian quickly stood up and bowed to her.

"Doctor, could you please take a look at my lady? What's wrong with her?"

The female doctor waved her hand in front of Guan Zhiyue's face, frowned slightly, and then gently took Guan Zhiyue's pulse on the pulse pillow. Finally, she was relieved and looked at Bilian, saying, "There's nothing serious. She was probably just frightened. Change her clothes and check if she has any other injuries!"

"Yes, then please wait a moment, doctor!"

Bi Lian dazedly led Guan Zhiyue to the dressing room, where she took off Guan Zhiyue's clothes one by one. Looking at her mistress's body, she saw red abrasions on her back, buttocks, thighs, and calves.

"Phew, thankfully my head was resting on the carefree prince's arm, so I didn't hit it." Bilian checked and saw that her head wasn't injured, and felt a little relieved.

After listening to Bilian's rambling, Guan Zhiyue asked her first question: "Is his injury serious?"

Bilian didn't react at first, but then she realized who her mistress was talking about, and said with a smile, "Don't worry, Your Majesty, Prince Xiaoyao only dislocated his arm, he's fine otherwise."

Guan Zhiyue took a deep breath after hearing this, as if she had finally been relieved. The light in her eyes gathered, and she regained her usual charm.

Seeing that her mistress seemed to be much better, Bilian felt relieved and quickly dressed her before going outside to speak with the doctor.

"This is a plaster for sprains and bruises. Remember to apply it to your wife. She'll be fine in no time."

"Okay, thank you, doctor."

The female doctor smiled, bowed, and took her leave. Guan Zhiyue sat on the bed, watched the doctor leave, took a deep breath, stood up, and asked, "Where is the Prince?"

"Your Highness, the Prince is currently resting in his guest room!"

Guan Zhiyue nodded and said, "Let's go see him."

"Oh dear, isn't this inappropriate? Your Majesty, this..."

Guan Zhiyue turned to look at Bilian and said, "Why not?"

"Your Highness, how can a sister-in-law go to her brother-in-law's room to see him? This is against the rules. Besides, even though you are the prince's sister-in-law, you should still avoid suspicion!"

Guan Zhiyue ignored her and shook her head, saying, "He was injured because of me, so it's only right that I go and see him. Alright, no need for so much formality."

Seeing that she couldn't persuade him, Bilian had no choice but to follow. The two arrived at a guest room and saw that three of her relatives were also guarding the room of the carefree prince.

"Father, how is the Prince?"

Guan Hongsheng looked at his daughter, who had recovered, and examined her from head to toe. Seeing that there was nothing wrong with her, he felt relieved.

"Sister-in-law, you're here! Are you hurt?" Li Qishang looked up at Guan Zhiyue standing opposite him, a faint smile on his face. When he rescued her earlier, his left shoulder had bumped against a stone on the ground, which caused his left hand to dislocate. However, it had been set now, and he just needed to rest and recover.

"I'm fine. How about you? Besides your arm, are you injured anywhere else?"

When Li Qishang heard Guan Zhiyue's concern for him, the shoulder that had been aching suddenly felt numb, replaced only by a feeling of tenderness.

"It's nothing, a small injury is nothing to a man like me. Thank you for your concern, sister-in-law." Li Qishang tried his best to appear indifferent, but the word "sister-in-law" was so difficult to utter.

Seeing that Li Qishang was really alright, Guan Zhiyue felt relieved and said to the others, "Father, it's getting late. I'll cook dinner for you and my brothers tonight."

"My little sister can cook now?"

“Then we’re in for a treat this time, aren’t we, Dad?” Guan Chengzhuo looked at his younger sister and then at his father.

Guan Hongsheng felt a pang of sadness upon hearing that his daughter, who had never lifted a finger before, could now cook.

Thinking back to when his daughter married the emperor, he knew they were marrying into a higher social class. Without any support in the harem, it would surely be difficult for them to survive, especially since they were banished to the cold palace on their wedding day.

The men in their family could be a bit thick-skinned, but thinking about their daughter who had been in the cold palace and was now able to cook, they knew she must have suffered a lot.

"It's too much work, Yue'er, just let the servants in the kitchen do it."

"Father, it's alright. It's rare for your daughter to come home and show her filial piety, so please don't worry about it."

Guan Hongsheng waved his hand helplessly, indicating that she should do it herself.

Guan Zhiyue used the vegetables she brought from the palace and the ginseng she took from her space to make medicinal cuisine, as well as some home-style dishes. The whole family, including Li Qishang, ate with gusto.

After the family finished eating, Guan Zhiyue was too tired, so she went back to her room to rest.

"Bi Lian, do you really not know whether I knew the Carefree Prince before?"

While making the bed, Bilian said, "I don't know. I've never heard Her Highness or my family mention it. I suppose the Prince must have mistaken you for someone else. Besides, the Prince knows so many girls and has so many confidantes. When we were little, we all looked pretty much the same. The Prince must have mistaken you for another girl!"

Guan Zhiyue was unaware that she always felt a sense of familiarity with Li Qishang, yet also a feeling of having never met him before. Furthermore, she felt that he treated her differently, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.

Guan Zhiyue sat down in front of the dressing table, looking somewhat puzzled. She shook her head and thought to herself, "I never imagined the original owner of this body would have this kind of fate!"

"Sigh, I really don't know what else this original owner of the body doesn't remember." Guan Zhiyue sighed deeply and muttered to herself.

Guest house.

"Shang Yao, why doesn't this girl remember?"

"Your Highness, what can a three-year-old child remember?"

"So, do you think I should tell her?"

“Your Highness, you were seven years old then, and the Empress was only three. How could you expect her to remember you?” Shang Yao looked up at the sky speechlessly.

"Sigh, yes! How can a three-year-old have any memories? How much of the past can they possibly know..."
