"Jiang Yuan, keep an eye on Xiang Xiang. I'll go out by myself."
Jiang Yuan was still clutching her collar, looking lingering fear, but she nodded earnestly and then shielded Lin Xi behind her.
Uncle Jiang was filled with emotion. Even Jiang Yuan, who was initially the most resistant to Lin Xi, had genuinely treated Lin Xi like a younger sister during their time together.
Yan Xiangxiang, who seemed to be the kindest among them, still couldn't let go of the grudge in her heart.
He knew that Yan Xiangxiang might never have let go of Lin Xi's identity from the very beginning.
With a swift movement, Tang He quickly returned the dagger he had thrown out to his hand.
Uncle Jiang smiled and said, "Thank you both for your help!"
"Is everything alright?" Tang He put the knife into his jacket pocket, smiling innocently.
"Everything is fine."
If I hadn't just witnessed it with my own eyes, and seen the ruthless look in his eyes as he wielded the dagger, he would have looked exactly like a handsome, cute, and cheerful young man who had just come of age.
Tang He's eyes swept into the tent.
Uncle Jiang quickly stopped them, saying, "They're all girls, they're shy."
Yan Xiangxiang was extremely conflicted upon hearing this. The outside world was full of powerful people. If she could make friends with them and their direction happened to be the same, her safety along the way would be guaranteed.
However, she glanced at Jiang Yuan, who was staring intently at her, and Jiang Ling, who was keeping her eyes closed and silent. She gritted her teeth but ultimately did not make any move.
Outside, another voice came, "Brother Ming, where did you all go all of a sudden?"
He sounded somewhat aggrieved.
Uncle Jiang looked over and saw the fat guy from their three-person team. Lin Xi had mentioned that he was a water-type ability user.
The three of them were incredibly lucky; they all awakened superpowers.
As Da Gang approached, he exclaimed in surprise, "Isn't this the guy from the group at the gas station who was with the little zombie?"
Tang He smiled enigmatically. "Really? Zombies are dangerous. If there really is a zombie in your team, I suggest you harden your heart and kill it. After all, when these things go berserk, they don't recognize people."
Uncle Jiang chuckled, "This young man is really joking. We're just a bunch of ordinary people, how could we possibly have zombies? If there really were zombies, I wouldn't be alive today."
Lin Xi was particularly sensitive to these two words, and looked at the tent's zippered door with a wary expression.
She was terrified that the dagger in the man's pocket might come at her at any moment.
Jiang Ling suddenly spoke up, whispering, "Xiangxiang, is this what you meant by them? They seem like good people and wouldn't hurt Xiaoxi."
The words from outside were undoubtedly a resounding slap in the face to Yan Xiangxiang.
She clenched her fists and slowly sat down.
However, what the outsiders said wasn't entirely unreasonable; Lin Xi was, after all, a zombie.
She still retains human consciousness, so she won't harm them yet, but what if one day she suddenly loses her self-awareness like the other zombies?
Do those who spend every day and night with her really have any sense of security?
Besides, who can guarantee that this kind of thing will never happen?
She came to her senses and realized that Jiang Ling had opened her eyes at some point and was staring straight at her, as if she could see right through her.
She was startled.
The man outside, with an impatient expression, said, "Uncle, my eyesight was 5.2 during my physical exam. I can guarantee I didn't misread it."
"Your company is so nice, you even have physical fitness tests?"
Big Jar's eyes widened. "Uncle, take a good look! I'm only 21! I'm talking about the physical fitness test you take in college!"
Uncle Jiang looked embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I thought you weren't much younger than me."
Da Gang's words caught in his throat.
Tang He chuckled to himself from behind.
"What are you laughing at?" Da Gang tossed his head back, then immediately turned around and looked at Uncle Jiang with a serious expression. "Uncle! You're trying to distract me. I advise you to hand over that little zombie as soon as possible."
Uncle Jiang insisted, "We really don't have any zombies here, they're all lively little girls."
"Could it be that the little zombie is your daughter, and that's why you're reluctant to hand her over?"
Uncle Jiang's smile faded. "I've already said all I need to say. While I'm very grateful that you saved us, you can't force us to bear a false accusation because of this."
"We don't have any zombies here, and even if we did, it's none of your business!"
Lu Xingming leaned lazily against a tree, arms crossed, a cigarette between his fingers, exhaling smoke expressionlessly.
"Don't be ungrateful!" A surge of anger welled up inside Da Gang.
Tang He shrugged indifferently, "Forget it, if they're so eager to die, let them go."
It's a bit of a pity that he can't open the blind boxes anymore. He really wanted to know what the crystal core inside the brain of this conscious zombie was like. Thinking of this, he just felt regretful.
This is the second time.
Lu Xingming's beautiful eyes swept over indifferently. "Big Vat, let's go."
"Brother Ming!" Da Gang was still unwilling, but after being glanced at by Lu Xingming, he could no longer speak.
Inside the tent, Yan Xiangxiang looked ashen-faced.
Jiang Ling looked at her and said, "You want to go with them, right? Just say yes and I'll let you go."
Yan Xiangxiang smiled bitterly, "Sister Ling, what are you talking about? How could I possibly abandon you and go with someone else?"
"You heard what they said, right? You don't have time to think about it. If you want to leave, do it now."
Jiang Yuan remained silent. In fact, if Yan Xiangxiang really had such thoughts, she could completely understand.
If they haven't left that apartment building yet, and three capable superhumans happen to appear, she will try her best to go with them.
After all, it's obviously safer to stay with people who are more capable than with these ordinary humans who are powerless.
But these past few days, Jiang Yuan has really treated everyone like a big family, and she feels inexplicably reluctant to leave whenever the topic of parting comes up.
“If you don’t leave, Xiangxiang, I hope you will truly treat us as one big family from now on, instead of saying one thing and doing another just because Lin Xi has a special status.”
"Sister Ling, please don't be like this." Yan Xiangxiang's tears were about to fall, welling up in her eyes. "I really just didn't think that much about it. I'm a bit slow and clumsy with my words. Some things just came out without thinking, but that's not what I really meant."
"You don't need to explain to me. Just remember what I just said."
As the car started, Yan Xiangxiang lowered her head, her eyes filled with inscrutable emotions, her fingernails digging deep into her flesh.
