Chapter 21 Breaking Through the Window Paper

Lin Xi did not listen to the man, but ran to Jiang Yuan's side as fast as she could and quickly helped her straighten her clothes.

"Let's go back to the tent."

Jiang Yuan, who had been lying on the ground staring blankly at the sky, slowly shifted her gaze over, still shaken.

At this moment, tears finally became uncontrollable and streamed down my face.

Old Liu caught a glimpse of another person approaching out of the corner of his eye, and his brows furrowed slightly. Only then did he realize that his companion had already fainted.

After weighing the options in his mind, he realized that the kid wielding the knife in front of him probably had a metal-type ability. Metal-type abilities usually belonged to people with strong combat abilities, especially since he now had another teammate.

Continuing the fight now would likely be a thankless and exhausting endeavor.

After reaching a conclusion, Lao Liu quickly made a decision. He activated his superpower, built several earthen walls in front of him, and then turned around and ran away without hesitation.

Lu Mingxing reached out, and several bolts of lightning struck down in succession, causing the earthen wall to collapse instantly.

Old Liu had already run quickly to the car door and was about to open it.

A long nail flew over and pierced through his palm, pinning his hand to the doorknob.

"Ah!" he cried out in pain, glanced behind him, and his expression finally cracked.

Lightning and metal elemental abilities—both are top-tier combat abilities—and they're both in the same team! If I and my companions also had these two elemental abilities, things wouldn't be like this today!

He gritted his teeth and forcefully pulled his hand out, instantly tearing a small hole in his palm from which deep red blood gushed out.

There were still bits of bright red meat stuck to the nail.

The next second, a dagger was pressed against the artery in his neck.

Old Liu was startled: What incredible speed!

"May I ask which side these two young men are from?"

Such skill clearly indicates someone who has undergone training.

Lu Mingxing frowned impatiently and gave him a subtle wink.

Tang He's elbow slipped, and a jet of blood gushed out. Old Liu lay down flat on his back in disbelief.

Lin Xi, who was passing by, saw this scene and her limbs stiffened slightly.

—Such ruthless and decisive methods.

If they recognize me as the zombie their teammates encountered, will I even have a chance to survive?

Thinking of this, she quickened her pace involuntarily. When she returned to the tent, Uncle Jiang and Yan Xiangxiang had already settled Sister Ling inside.

Jiang Ling looked up, her face pale and bloodless.

"Jiang Yuan, are you alright?"

Jiang Yuan shook her head, choking back tears.

Lin Xi took out the universal wound medicine he had drawn during his first exchange from his pocket. Unexpectedly, what he had previously thought was the most useless medicine had actually come in handy after all this time.

"Where did you get this medicine? Is it even safe to use?" Yan Xiangxiang frowned and stopped her hand.

Lin Xi didn't want to talk to them about the system, so she made up a story, "I found it in a traditional Chinese medicine shop when I was searching for supplies outside."

Fine beads of sweat appeared on Jiang Ling's nose, and her voice grew weaker and weaker, "Xiangxiang, we've known each other for so long, don't you know what kind of person Lin Xi is?"

Yan Xiangxiang then withdrew her hand, looking guilty. "I'm sorry, Lin Xi. I was just afraid that using this kind of medicine of unknown origin would worsen Sister Ling's injuries."

“If this continues, she will die from excessive blood loss even without treatment. Since it’s a pharmacy, at least you can help Jiang Ling stop the bleeding. Use it,” Uncle Jiang said.

Lin Xi simply wiped her wound with a towel, applied some iodine, sprinkled a little bit of wound medicine powder, and finally Yan Xiangxiang bandaged Jiang Ling.

Uncle Jiang glanced outside furtively. "These two men are the ones we just met at the gas station. They don't seem like bad guys."

After finishing the bandaging, Yan Xiangxiang looked outside and said, "They helped us, so we should thank them."

Lin Xi instinctively hid in the corner.

Seeing Lin Xi's actions, Uncle Jiang knew that she had a special identity and probably didn't want to confront the other superhumans. So he said, "You guys rest well inside and don't come out. I'm an elder, so it's most appropriate for me to go and thank them."

Yan Xiangxiang shook her head. "Uncle Jiang, he helped all of us. It wouldn't be appropriate for you to go alone, would it?"

Uncle Jiang frowned. "Xiangxiang, after spending time with you these past few days, I've noticed that you're not quite like the person you are in the chat group."

Yan Xiangxiang was taken aback.

"When I first saw your comments in the chat group, I thought you were a kind and observant person."

Jiang Ling had actually sensed it long ago, but she hadn't brought it up. Now that Uncle Jiang had said it so directly, it might make Xiang Xiang reflect deeply on her behavior.

So she didn't say anything to stop her, but just silently observed Yan Xiangxiang's reaction.

"Uncle Jiang, what's wrong..."

"You should have known all along that Xiaoxi's identity was special, right?"

Yan Xiangxiang bit her lip. This was a secret that everyone knew but didn't say, and of course she had already guessed it.

"Since you know this, you should put yourself in Xiaoxi's shoes. If you were Xiaoxi, would you want to encounter a strange person with superpowers?"

Lin Xi was touched, never expecting that Uncle Jiang had always considered her feelings.

Yan Xiangxiang's face turned pale. "Uncle Jiang, I just think they are both good people and shouldn't do anything to Lin Xi."

"You said it yourself, it's just a 'should,' but what if? What if they discover Xiaoxi's identity and are determined to kill her? How do you plan to handle that?"

"Surely...no way?"

Uncle Jiang looked at her and shook his head.

"You seem to have a kind and gentle heart. But why is it that every time there's danger, you always think of pushing Xiaoxi out first?"

Yan Xiangxiang instinctively retorted, "I didn't!"

Uncle Jiang looked at her, his expression gradually turning from blank to somewhat disappointed. "When we encountered a horde of zombies in the car earlier, your instinctive reaction was to have Lin Xi hold them off. You're in college now; you should understand that one man can't fight four. How could she possibly handle so many zombies all by herself?"

Faced with the sudden accusation, Yan Xiangxiang's mind went blank. "I just thought she was a zombie, so I would be safe."

When Lin Xi heard Yan Xiangxiang say such things, his eyes darkened.

So every time he went out, Yan Xiangxiang would subconsciously say "Come back quickly" instead of "Be careful".

"And why did you reveal Lin Xi's location when we were captured just now?"

"I was just too scared..." Yan Xiangxiang explained, her eyes red and her lips biting.

“Think carefully about how much Lin Xi has sacrificed for us. When the zombie outbreak first occurred, she worked tirelessly every day to deliver supplies to us. Later, in order to protect us, she cleared out all the zombies from the building.”

Uncle Jiang's face showed a rare hint of fatigue as he sighed, "As long as you have a clear conscience, that's enough."

"Are you all alright?" Tang He's clear, youthful voice came through the phone.
