Chapter 59 Amnesia "If one day, Sang Li and humans clash..."

Sang Li had no recollection of what Slo had mentioned.

She was just a poor student back then, unloved by her parents. How could she possibly go to Paris?

She's never even been to Paris in the World Park!

Five hundred euros back.

Tsk.

Even if you sold her, you wouldn't get five hundred euros.

I don't know how Sloan's brain works, he actually developed delusions.

Are all abnormal bodies like this?

That makes sense, though. I often fantasize about dating the male protagonists in otome games, and I even fantasize about dating several at once, and I plan it all out logically. For example, I'd hang out with the domineering CEO on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, go on dates with the movie star on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and maybe even have a date with a cute younger man under the stars when I have some free time. Even though it's all fake, I have it all planned out perfectly in my fantasy world.

So, Sloan must have been hallucinating too.

“I’ve never been to Paris,” she said calmly, her voice like water droplets falling on glass.

Slo seemed to have already guessed: "What a pity, you don't remember."

Sang Li squinted.

Don't remember?

How could he know?

No way...

Is it that lost memory?

Slo said calmly, "It's okay if you don't remember, after all, your memories... are often taken away. Anyway, you will remember someday, and I estimate that day will come soon. When that day comes, I will give you a new painting."

Amnesia.

Sloan knew about Sangli's past.

Slo was an anomaly they had just captured, with no prior connection to him.

That's all.

horrible.

Lu Jin suddenly opened his eyes wide and turned his head to look at Sang Li.

Sang Li was also shocked. When did her amnesia become common knowledge?

"What did you say?" Lu Jin's voice was as low and cold as ever.

Slo didn't seem to intend to answer. Instead, he turned his gaze back to Sangli, his eyes unfocused, his tone as soft as a whisper in a dream: "It's not your fault that you don't remember me now. I'm just so happy to see you again. You look exactly like the you in the painting."

Lu Jin's face darkened, and he reached out and pressed the button on the table to record the interrogation.

"Relationship?" Slow repeated softly. "You have no right to ask me that. You're not even as good as him."

"Who?" Lu Jin's gaze was icy, his voice like ice pressed from the abyss.

Slo slowly raised his head, his face still bearing that gentle yet almost manic smile: "You should have already met him, or you should meet him soon."

“He took her to Paris, and I followed them to the market. Oh, and she was wearing a light pink dress that day, and he was wearing a white shirt. They were inseparable. I remember buying ice cream from that famous Italian ice cream shop; the cones were so small that she'd take a bite, and he'd lick it too. I stood on the street corner and drew their backs. Of course, the man wasn't in the drawing. You're all no good, not as good as me.” Sloe’s mouth stretched almost to the back of his head, his expression manic, his tone seemingly boastful.

Lu Jin's face instantly turned ugly, like the deathly stillness before a storm.

"Who do you think that person is?"

A hint of smugness flashed in Slo's eyes, as if he were deliberately igniting a spark.

Sang Li stood frozen in place.

No way, no way, no way?!

“His name,” Slo’s smile widened as he spoke slowly, as if deliberately pausing each syllable, “should be… Ike Watari.”

“池 (chí), meaning pond or pool; 渡 (dù), meaning ferry crossing.”

It seems like something fell to the ground in Sang Li.

Lu Jin suddenly stood up, the chair making a sharp scraping sound.

He strode to the one-way glass: "What do you know?"

Sloe's gaze swept across Lu Jin's face, and he asked casually, "Can I ask you a question?"

Lu Jin was silent for a moment, his eyes wary: "What's the problem?"

Slo chuckled slightly, as if the question was just something casually thrown out during a chat: "If one day, Sangli and humans were to clash, and you could only choose to stand on one side, who would you choose?"

The air was stagnant.

The interrogation room was so quiet you could hear your heart pounding.

Sang Li had thought about this question countless times, but she had never asked it aloud.

Because they are destined to be different, with different stances, and even different species.

She turned to look at Lu Jin.

Lu Jin's hand tightened slightly, his knuckles turning white, but he did not answer.

His expression was reflected in the glass, his eyes filled with a complex, almost suppressed look. He hadn't spoken for so long that even the red warning lights behind the glass wall seemed eerily silent.

Slo suddenly burst out laughing.

His laughter grew louder and louder, as if he had completely gone mad. He leaned back in his chair, his shoulders shaking with laughter.

“I know you won’t answer,” he gasped, a hint of manic smugness in his eyes, “so he knows it too.”

“Chi Du?” Lu Jin narrowed his eyes.

“Chi Du.” Slo uttered the name as if in a provocation, “He said the answer doesn’t matter, because… we’ll all know soon enough.”

He paused, a chilling smile creeping across his lips: "He told me to tell you this."

Slo's laughter grew louder and louder, almost making the glass of the interrogation room vibrate. His hair was disheveled, his eyes were bloodshot, and his originally pale face was flushed with an unusual excitement.

"Soon, Lu Jin, you will see her true face! If I can't have her, neither can you!"

Bang!

The metal legs of the interrogation room table rose into the air with a violent tremor, then slammed hard onto the ground, the metal twisting and emitting a sharp, piercing screech.

The detection equipment on the wall flashed red, and the alarm started beeping.

[Warning: Abnormal magnetic field disturbance; electromagnetic wave frequency increased dramatically. An abnormal mental domain is spreading.]

Lu Jin cursed under his breath, then decisively pulled out his communicator. "Immediately cut off the power supply to the interrogation room and prepare for suppression measures."

After saying that, he turned around and grabbed Sang Li's wrist: "Go, leave immediately."

Sang Li was pulled away from the interrogation corridor by him. The defensive door behind them slammed shut with a loud bang amidst the high-frequency alarm, sealing Slo and Madman behind the air wall.

The corridor was silent.

Lu Jin stood at the elevator entrance, his breathing slightly heavy.

He gazed at Sang Li, his voice lowering: "That won't happen."

“You are human,” he said, emphasizing each word, “I will protect you.”

Sang Li blinked, as if she had been stunned for a moment.

Then, she suddenly looked up, her gaze calm yet direct: "Shouldn't you be more concerned about when Chi Du appeared?"

Lu Jin was taken aback, his expression momentarily frozen.

He was speechless.

He was indeed... a bit unprofessional.

He was too eager to explain the conflict that had just occurred.

Ultimately, Slo did not answer any questions and was detained in a temporary containment room.

As for how Lu Jin interrogates him afterward, that's his own business, and Sang Li doesn't want to concern herself with it.

At noon, Lu Jin, Yu Qi, Tang Lan, and Zhou Fangyang went to a barbecue restaurant for a meal.

The barbecue restaurant was steaming hot and smelled delicious.

"Here you go, Brother Lu, this is your favorite kidney." Tang Lan smiled and handed it over, his hands reeking of cumin.

Sang Li looked on with amusement: "It's an aphrodisiac."

"..."

Zhou Fangyang wiped his hands with a wet wipe while flipping through the restaurant's menu: "To be honest, it's been a long time since we've gotten together. Cases have been piling up lately, I've almost forgotten I'm even human."

The atmosphere at the dinner table was relaxed and pleasant.

Lu Jin had also had a few drinks, which was rare for him, and his eyes were slightly red. He sat in the seat closest to the window, glancing at his phone from time to time, but he didn't say much.

After the meal, the group returned to the bureau, and Yu Qi and the others went into their respective offices in twos and threes.

Sang Li sat back down at her small desk and continued drawing.

Lu Jin prepared to start writing a report and to review the turmoil that occurred on the day Sang Li had a fever, since the problem was not yet resolved.

The terminal on the desk suddenly lit up.

He answered: "Hello?"

Bai Heng's deep, urgent voice came from the other end of the phone: "Could you come over here right now? Immediately."

Lu Jin frowned: "What is it?"

"It's not convenient to talk about it now." Bai Heng paused, then added, "Don't bring Sang Li along."

The call ended.
