"Mei Heming thanks Mr. Chen."
Chen Hede smiled, but his smile remained indifferent. "Heming's skills have improved recently."
"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Chen."
Liang Shaozun took out a silver note and said, "Mr. Mei, you have truly broadened my horizons today."
Xu Zhuohua recalled that even though Mei Heming was not yet internationally renowned, he was already the top of the four great Dan (female role) performers in Xinhai City. Many people came to watch operas because of him, and he was respectfully called "Mr. Mei".
Chen Hede, on the other hand, addressed him by his given name. The two were truly bosom friends.
Chen Hede waved his hand, and Mei Heming withdrew. The curtain was drawn back on the stage downstairs, and the newly arrived actors sang "The Tale of the Sea of Sin: Yearning for the Mortal World," but Chen Hede showed little interest.
"Young Master Liang and Young Marshal Cheng, you didn't come to see me today to watch a play, did you?"
The show upstairs has finally begun.
Liang Shaozun gave Cheng Muyun a wink, "The military and police have always kept to themselves, but recently one of my men made a mistake and was arrested by your men."
Chen Hede raised an eyebrow slightly, "Openly harassing female students on a university campus, attempted kidnapping, and it's just a joke?"
Liang Shaozun's smile froze. As the son of the quartermaster, no one had ever dared to speak to him like that. However, the soldier who had been arrested had evidence of his embezzlement and was in Chen Hede's hands, so he had no choice but to swallow his pride.
"Director Chen is joking. I will absolutely not protect him. According to the law, he should be dealt with by military law."
Chen Hede curled the corners of his lips and looked at Cheng Muyun, "Oh, really? Young Marshal Cheng."
Cheng Muyun's fingers caressed the teacup, and he chuckled softly, "Yes, he should be shot."
Chen Hede laughed heartily, clapped his hands, and the police officers dragged a grotesque figure from behind.
The "person" was thrown to the ground, and if it weren't for the muffled groans, Xu Zhuohua would have thought he was dead.
Cheng Muyun didn't think much of it at first, but when he remembered that Xu Zhuohua was sitting behind him, he frowned, turned his head and looked over, and found that she was staring at that person with her big round eyes.
He sighed silently.
"Hey, Young Master Liang, you can check if it's him."
Liang Shaozun covered his nose with a handkerchief and leaned closer to look. "How did it get like this?"
Chen Hede didn't seem to care much and said, "Resist arrest."
Judging from this, they definitely used torture, and it's unclear what they wanted to extract information from.
Liang Shaozun lifted the man's head, and saw that the man shook his head, which put his mind at ease.
"It's definitely him."
Chen Hede laughed, "Looks like I didn't bring the wrong person today."
Liang Shaozun beckoned, and his men carried in a heavy wooden box, placed it on the table, and opened it to reveal neatly stacked gold bars inside.
It was much larger and more generous than the reward Chen Hede had just given to Mei Heming.
Chen Hede picked up a gold bar, weighed it in his hand, and said, "This man is very tight-lipped. I couldn't get anything out of him. Young Master Liang, there's no need for you to spend so much money."
Liang Shaozun said, "Director Chen, you're too kind. These are just for the brothers in the police station to have tea. They're nothing to mention."
Chen Hede asked, "I wonder how Young Master Liang should be punished for taking people away?"
